Short question: Is the 128 MB PCI Express x 16 ATi Radeon® X300 SE card more powerfull than the 256 MB ATi Radeon 9600 pro?
Inanimate Object:
After a google search, I found this.
ATi Radeon 9600 Pro
Core Clock: 400 MHz
Memory Clock: 600 MHz
Memory Interface: 128-bit
Memory Transfer Rate: 9.6 GB/s
Pixels Per Clock: 4
DirectX version: 9.0
ATi X300 SE
Core Clock: 325 MHz
Memory Clock: 400 MHz
Memory Interface: 64-bit
Memory Transfer Rate: 3.2 GB/s
Pixels Per Clock: 4
DirectX version: 9.0
As you can see, the Radeon wipes the floor with the X300 SE.
SpacemanSpiff:
Basically, the X300 series is completely useless for gamers. And the 9600 is old.
In case you consider buying either of these: Don't. Get an nVidia 6600GT instead, they're cheap and a damn lot faster.
That is, if you want to play games.
Note: There are no PCIe versions of the 9600 out there that I am aware of. In case you have a PCIe motherboard, getting a 9600 is useless anyway. In case you have an AGP motherboard, getting a PCIe card is useless.

Im buying a new computer, and I was looking at a Dell. It had the X300, now I got 9600 and is rather satisfied with it, I want it partly for gaming. But with the 9600 pro Ive been able to run FarCry at max with very little fps drop and my processor is just 1,33 ghz, so with a 3,33 ghz, Farcry (along with HL2) should run steady even at max, right?
(dont want to spend that much money, keeping the 9600 and buying a new comp without a graphics-card should be cheaper)
Trollstormur:
buy a 256mb x800 XT, it's only about $400 and it's superb.
