That said, if this thread stays on topic (Johnny Cash) then it's okay. I remember where I was when I heard he died. Westbound for Albany, New York, on I-90, heading out to see friends. It was a sad night.

The great thing about him is that no matter what genre someone's into, he most likely likes Johnny Cash. That sort of universal appeal is just awe-inspiring.

I think his style is too straightforward for their to be anything to dislike. The simpler and more sparse music is, the better it can act as a conduit for true emotion, in my mind. Some of Dylans earlier stuff is almost the angriest music I have ever heard. Cash is so universally liked not because he was a great musician, but because he was a great person.
