Impressions on Pr0n?

Hmmm.... as long as we're tasteful, this is a movie genre.

Does anyone feel that pr0n is a lot more mainstream than it was, say 10 years ago?  Jenna Jameson, Janine Lindemulder, etc. are all reaching such attention and even advice columns, memoirs, etc. that in some respects it's not as taboo as it used to be?

Is there a reason you're calling it "pr0n?"

i think those pr0n stars definitely have good agents.
i think some of it is due to the glorification and more positive media bytes out there on them.  jenna jameson had that tv show special where they followed her around with a camera and watched her retrace her roots...the media industry has been humanizing them, instead of leaving them as objectified stars of "health videos."

plus, i think there are some quality pr0n films out there now - some of them have been pushing the old boundaries and limitations on what a feature-length pr0n film involved.  i particularly enjoy the comedic factor of double feature and bride of the double feature, both of which were put out on wicked pictures (isn't that jameson's preferred company to work with?)

The medium has also improved for pr0n. Instead of having to don your trenchcoat and sunglasses and drive to the pr0n shack, you can sit at your computer and dl some quality stuff!

I loves the pr0n. For some reason, I prefer the softcore to the hardcore. Mabe it's because I don't want to see penis when I'm trying to see...you know...woman. :P

I'm mostly of the opinion that pornography is pretty bad. It's pretty scuzzy, and a lot of bad stuff goes on behind the scenes, especially in the more independant variety. I also feel pretty dirty watching it, because I feel there's probably a bunch of dope and alchohol involved in getting a lot of girls to do this.

It may be wrong, but that's the impression I get at least.

*lecture mode engaged*

Actually, pornography and artistic nudity have traditionally been the driving forces behind pretty much any medium you care to name for this dissemination of information, past basic script, speech and pictures. Oil paintings -> lots of naked chicks. movies -> porn flicks. The internet -> Suicide Girls. Especially in the modern day and age - digital filmography (as most recently used by the Star Wars films) was pioneered by the porn industry. Portly because it's cheaper to buy a single digital camera and re-use it than it is to buy multiple new film cameras, but also because the picture quality is as good, if not better. Plus, you already have it in a digital format, so it can be edited easily, and uploaded to the internet pretty much as soon as it clears editing.

AS far as porn itself is concerned - frankly, I think it suffers from being produced exclusively by greasy pornographers who seem to think that the only standards of beauty are those of muscles, silicone, and big dicks. Just once, it'd be nice to encounter mainstream porn that features people who are just naturally sexy, as opposed to an endless supply of human fuck toys produced on the operating table at great expense.

I think that's probably more because the softcore stars of both genders are generally more attractive than their harcore counterparts. Also, it's more artistic. Basically, it's the difference between any given cheap internet "Cum inside to see more!!!!1!" site, and MET.

Anyway, that's my $0.02

I tend to agree bout the softcore being generally more erotic then the hardcore but at some points hardcore is all that will do. It seems to be more socially acceptable nowadays to enjoy it, especially for a girl to say it. A few years ago I probably would have been flamed to death for admitting to liking porn but I think mostly due to the internet, people have got a lot more accustomed to it. (But, we really need hotter actors, and slightly more realistic ones please!)

Oh, theres no problem finding porn with genuinely good looking people in! The internets full of it! I'm not a fan of any of the famous porn stars, simply because they are bloody ugly! and honestly, when i watch porn, i dont want to see the same people i saw last time..

Internet porn is diversifying rapidly. Seriously, no matter what you like, its on the internet. It seems theres no limits to how specific they can get when it comes to catering for kinks, from the mild to the downright freaky.

Yeah, theres a lot of "art" porn on the web too, because some people like it!

Also, does ANYONE actaully watch porn with the sound on?

pr0n is nice, it gives you something to do at parties.  unfortunately theres one girl i know that only likes to put gay pr0n in during a party.  its not that i have anything against gay guys, but if i'm at a party id rather see two girls going at it than guys

(did i just destroy the censorship barrier by stating something that isnt 'tasteful'?)

'sides, internet pr0n is pretty good, the underground vids are IMO better than the showcased stuff, since half of them arent planned out so you dont get the edits or fakeys.

course then theres tenticles....*shakes himself* err off topic, eh?  how bout them dodgers?

The sound can be okay, when it's not the same ten-second clip of oohs and aahs looped throughout the entire video. Of course, I once downloaded a porno that had 3/4 of a Disturbed album playing over the entire thing. That sucked.

I actually think it's a good thing that porn is more mainstream. It takes some of the "sleazy assholes making coked-up girls do things on camera" element out of porn. Obviously, porn is never really going to be a respected (by most people) business area, and you always have the fine line between erotica and tastelessness. Nonetheless, the less taboo it is, the easier it will be for the actors to find a reputable director.

The best porn site on the Internet. Safe for work in the sense of having no nudity. And this is not a cruel joke to get you to look at a gross picture or anything. This is the only porn I have ever paid for, the only porn I have ever considered paying for.

At least, I think you can call it porn. What a great fucking idea.

That's awesome! What a cool idea.

Excuse me while I go all obscure New Zealand television on you, but this reminds me of the segment that used to be on 'Havoc' back in the day: "Faces of delight, or if you're in the islands, they call it Kum fa'ce". Basically it was just footage of celebrities slowed down so that it looked like they had their "come faces" on. Hilarious!

Also, I noticed an ad for Suicide Girls over today's strip. That's a quality site.

Porn is big business nowadays, and it's no longer as seedy as it was ...say 20 years ago. In both production and the people who watch it.

I don't think it's like that anymore, i think with a lot of these larger porno companies theres just a lot of money behind it.

My cousin worked on a porno in sydney and from what he told me it was very professional and clinical. They had him checked and clean, he had to hand in a bunch of paperwork declaring him clean to work. It's no longer done in a back alley behind McDonalds, its shot like any other movie.

With the whole softcore vs hardcore, anyone who says they don't watch hardcore because they don't want to see another mans penis, severely worries me. If you can't look past the dick, then you should have a deep look inside yourself and question your sexuality.

Hm, I drunk-posted. Obviously I have friends who watch porn and I don't think less of them for that. Still it's pretty disgusting to me. For the resons Kid Modernist pointed out and more. Like, I don't want to watch strangers have sex. I think that's basic decency.

It's basic decency not to watch people have sex without their consent, but if it's their job and they're fully aware of what they're signing up for then where's the problem...plus you can find some new things to introduce into your own sex life.

If something is consensual and essentially harmless (nothing is completely harmless), I think it's basic decency not to condemn people for doing it.

I'm not into porn, it doesnt really interest me. My fiance claims he has better things to do with his time than watch porn, that freaks me out a bit. Before we lived together I completely didn't believe him, but all he does is play EQ and read arrow in the head and their forums.

Anyway back to condemnation of porn. Don't, those people gotta make more money than me somehow.

I think if you don't like porn, fine, if you do, fine. I think its a highly personal decision and that noone has the right to condemn someone for that, just like noone has the right to condemn someone for their icecream prefernces.

Also, If they didnt want to be watched they wouldnt do it infront of a camera and lighting.

i have to disagree here.  i like the idea behind SG, but in practice it just seems like LJ/myspace + mostly bad-quality pictures of semi-naked goth/punk chicks.  ie: lame.  seriously, if any other site tried to sell memberships with such low-quality, attention-whore, show-basically-nothing images they would get hardly any customers.

also: i got some pretty bad bald-crotch numbness from SG.  i very much dislike a completely-shaved crotch (as opposed to just trimming/waxing and tidying up), and it seems like everyone there has no hair below their necks.  after looking at a few pictorials it was like "yeah, cute girl with a bald, pierced crotch and big ugly tattoos.  how surprising.  next..."

dear SG,

just because you're an "alternative" porn site that doesn't mean that every single girl has to have blue/pink/green hair, 10 piercings and a handful of tatts.

thanks!

est.

(NB: i know that they are not all like that. i am exaggerating, but only a little. thx)

Well I just think it's good to see something different from stereotypical porn stars - ie big breasted blonde bimbos (alliteration: 100 points).

Also, rum and raisin ice cream is made from milk from the devil's teat. Anyone who likes that stuff is deserving of condemnation.

Regardless...

I must confess, the one hardcore DVD I own is probably the least-viewed of the lot. It's terrible. There's not a single women who hasn't had silicone and bee venom shoved into her, every guy is some bodybuilder chump with sideburns and gold chains/earrings, and the male lead is probably one of the ugliest men alive, and I'm usually pretty adept at finding one attractive physical feature in anyone, regardless of gender, so believe me when I say that the man has no qualification to be an object of lust. Not to mention that the penetration close-ups just go on far too long for my tastes (seriously, fifteen minutes without changing the camera angle at all is just too long. A little bit, yes, but not a whole fucking quarter hour of fucking as seen from five centimetres away...)

It's not the PCU's themselves that are unattractive - tastefuly done, they rock, in fact. But unfortunately, they lose interest and become a bit too organic after a few seconds.
