Google Talk
Luke:
I've always used AIM. I tried YIM for awhile, but I've abandoned it for the time being because I have only 2 friends on there, so it's easier to just talk to them on AIM. I've never tried Trillian, but I probably never will because I don't like the way that it communicates with AIM.
As for GAIM, I'll download it just for the sake of seeing if it appeals to me, and if it does, I'll stick around awhile for the upgrades. I use google all the time, I have a gmail account, and I used their maps in the months that we didn't have an atlas in the house, so I have a pretty good impression of them. I don't necessarily consider myself a google worshipper, but you have to admit that their basic services (search, e-mail, maps) are pretty damn useful.

--- Quote from: Mnementh ---I'm using it through GAIM at work and through Adium at home. It's simply Jabber.
Nih: Voice over networks has been around a long time, but now it's the Next Big Thing in telephoney, and it's finally commercially viable as a service. Additionally, it's not something that was accessable to a lot of people, for the general population, it is something new.
That's why people talk about it.

w00t, more Adium users! 0.85 (expected RSNŽ) will have GTalk as a separate account type. We're hoping to get stuff like gmail integration working in the future (possibly with Google's help; they've been quite nice about sending us patches to improve gtalk support).

I don't know what makes a good client; I've only ever used iChat to do AIM. I can do voice chat, but I'd much rather type.
