Clap your hands...

Hokay, to celebrate the tenth "episode" of my radio show on ye olde campus station, I want to make a playlist of songs with hand clapping in them.  Any suggestions?  My format is pretty "indie rock/pop," so in other words, like many many other campus radio shows.

Oh, Canadian content is good, too. :)

Although they ARE awesome.

Um, would Ma Jolie by Bear Vs. Shark count?

Also:

The Ponys - I'm With You
Mock Orange - This Nation
Radiohead - We Suck Young Blood
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood

I think that last one had handclaps...I'll have to listen to it again.

All I could think of when I heard the title of this thread was "Apache" by Sugarhill Gang. Then subsequently, the original video for Apache by Tommy Seebach: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2668101

Ben Folds has a song off his first solo disk called "Zak and Sara" where the handclaps directly proceed the line "Because at home they got her slapped" which is hilarious to hear.

Plus, Nancy Sinatra has a great song ("Don't Let Him Waste Your Time") that features handclaps.

And I third "Stars and Sons."

Maybe, but why would anyone want to play Jet on any radio show, let alone a college radio show?

I will second (or third or whatever) 'We Suck Young Blood'... I know there are heaps more handclap songs that I like, but i just can't think of any...

PS: Jet suck.

It's fine with me if you don't like a band, but you don't have to say it over and over again. Then again, in comparison to others, you're hardly guilty of that...

Anything worth saying once is worth repeating.

Speaking of which, I just saw 40 Year Old Virgin yesterday, so I must share a quote...

Yep.

But on topic...

Thinking on it, and there's some The (International) Noise Conspiracy that uses handclaps.

Bloc Party's "Banquet" or "Price Of Gas."

Also, if you want to PISS YOUR LISTENERS OFF, try The A-Frames' "Galena." Most menacing handclaps ever.

and
Kissing the Lipless by The Shins (I realise that the claps are only at the beginning, but they are excellent nonetheless)

Darren Hanlon's "And the Days Were Just Packed".  It's on the "Hiccups" single/mini-E.P. - though I don't know how widely available that is outside Australia (other than through mail order via Candle Records.)  But it's happy-clappy in the best possible way!

EDIT: Also Toni Basil - hell yes!!!

Radiohead - We Suck Young Blood

(not indie, just great) Tomahawk - Jockstrap

Do those three. They all work for college radio and are also all really pretty decent songs.

Just for something completely different, the best hand-claps I've ever heard on record are in Charles Mingus's "Better Git it in Your Soul", off Mingus Ah Um.  Booker Ervin takes a great tenor sax solo, the first part of which is backed only by hand-claps.  Awesome.

In retrospect, I was thinking not of "Merchants Of Soul" when I wrote this, but rather "They Never Got You." Which has the most crazy-fun handclaps probably ever recorded.
