Fox owns the rights to the TV series for ten years (only seven years left at this point!). Whedon said that he wouldn't do Firefly with Fox again and Fox would never be stupid enough to sell off something that could make their competitors a lot of money.
So, Whedon won't do it with Fox an Fox won't sell the rights. No TV series.

They DON'T own the rights to the movies though. Hence our prayers for Serenity 2.

In speaking of how River could kick so much ass, according to the movie she and all others (other students) were trained and ready for combat situations, only she was a bit unstable.
In speaking of the Cowboy Bebop movie, I think it explored the villian character well. I love deranged psychopathic characters that think that they are fighting for something.
Now about Firefly, I haven't seen the apparently existing show or the movie yet, and I would like to know if it's worth getting obsessed over.
