I think you should. Both of their albums are very good.

If you give us a bit more information about what you like already it would help us point you at things. It's hard to know where to start when someone says "recommend me something".

If you like Modest Mouse, you will like Meat Puppets more.  They are better.

You can get a copy of the Sugarplastic's "Bang, The Earth Is Round" on Amazon for less than a dollar. I'd definately get that if I were you. Also, if you want to get some modest mouse, make sure to get "The Moon And Antartica" and "The Lonesome Crowded West".

Also, get the new Bad Plus album, "Suspicious Activity?" just because you should!

If you don't own Surfer Rosa and Doolittle by the Pixies then you must obtain them by any means possible.

You could always visit a prostitute.  Or donate to charity.

Personally, I'd go with The Arcade Fire, but I just thought I'd put some other options out there too.

Buy a bear instead, a big bear... like a panda or a grizzly, and train it to eat christians and insurance agents.

That would fun!

Completely disregarding the two bands you mentioned you like, pick up a copy of The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

Or perhaps a small army of mongooses (mongeese?). Or ferrets, then you could be like The Beastmaster and walk around all oiled up and moody.

You guys are disregarding the budget! Unless the body comes with the army of ferrets, at which point he would be fine.

You should buy:

Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground and Nico
Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
Meat Puppets - Too High to Die

If you have any money left over, especially if you can get those used, buy also:

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
At the Drive In - Relationship of Command

Don't listen to him, buy that bear, how about a polar bear, yeessss that would be quite nifty...

DO IT

alternatively:

Buy some Bearvs.Shark or Isis, which I hear is somewhat akin to a live bear. But only akin, not really a double cd with a bear as cd 2!

Feist-Let It Die.  So.  Good.  or Brazilian Girls-Brazilian Girls.  In terms of joy per dollar, these are hard to beat.

The Moon and Antartica by Modest Mouse

Picaresque by the Decemberists
and Oh, Inverted World by The Shins
the rest of the money went towards chicken teryaki at a generic chinese resturant in the mall.

thanks for the input

WOW!  I really like The Shins now.  Modest Mouse is awesome as always, Broken social scene was good too,  M83 was different like no words hardly...still great album...I went back and bought a devo album with some cash i bummed from my parents. (If they liked the band they will usually buy me one of their albums)  I like the songs but got it  to chop the
techno-y parts into pieces for use on Adobe Audition to assist my friends band making re-mixes.

Good music? Dude, ignore all of the posts in this thread. Seriously.

If it's good music you're looking for, then go out and buy The Chronicles Of Life And Death. While you're at it, you may as well buy The Young And The Hopeless too.

HAHAHAHAHA! I was so disappointed with Throw Rag. They can do so much better. But honestly, that may be the second worse song released in 2005, next to "The Ambler Saddle"by Ian Tyson, a song written from the point of vue of the saddle.

Just because his recent stuff sucks doesn't mean his work with the Dead Kennedys was anything less than awesome.

The argument is not about Jello Biafra.  The argument is about the Dead Kennedys pre-split.  Only one conclusion can be drawn from THAT, which is that the Dead Kennedys rock like nothing else.

Sorry.  You lose, dude.

They rocked similar to a lot of eighties punk/hardcore bands with childish "look-how-socially-conscious-we-are" politics, to my ears. Mostly, I just wanted to draw everyone's attention to "Children Of The Secret State," which is seriously the worst song I've heard this year.

Dude... fuge that. Buy 45 dollars worth of drugs and a 20 dollar mixing program for your computer. Make your own music and become famuis, then you can buy what ever CD you want and you won't have to choose.

No matter what side you take with the Dead Kennedys, I think we can all come together, find some peace and say with certainty that yes, "Children of the State" is a terrible, horrifying song.

It's like not rapping the elderly; it's something that we can all get behind.
