Anyone Like Porcupine Tree?
ObsoleteDonkey:
Mind the difference between "progressive" and "prog" rock. Porcupine Tree is not a Pink Floyd or a Yes re-hash (although their album "The Sky Moves Sideways" is very "prog"). They're progressive, they combine all sorts of styles of music to create their own sound. You can hear rock, metal, folk and even electronic and trip-hop aspects in their music.
Also, Bishop. Right now, Lightbulb Sun basically doesn't exist. It was deleted by their previous record label, and their new record label hasn't re-issued it yet. Same goes for Stupid Dream. If you can borrow it from a friend then that would be a good idea. If not you'll have to wait for the re-issue or pay a shitload of cash for a copy over E-bay.
KharBevNor:
Hmmn. Sounds rather good actually.
La Creme:
They're kind of a water'd down Gordian Knot with lyrics.
But it is ok because they are not to bad at all.
Vlishgnath:
As you can see, anyone who's a Porcupine Tree fan is pretty rabid ;) That's a good thing, as Steven Wilson is a genius. I personally didn't like Deadwing so much. He's writing more aggressively overall, which is cool, but it's not why I got into them (Up the Downstair - Lightbulb Sun is my era of fondness). But I will say that Mellotron Scratch is one of the finest songs of the last 3 albums.
Also, any Porcupine Tree fan would be well served to check out Pineapple Thief. (PT + PT?) Another English progressive rock band that I've been following for about four years now. Their latest effort really solidified them as one of my favorites.
Radiowar:
My favorites are probably The Sky Moves Sideways and In Absentia. I have Stupid Dream as well, which I think is just average. 'Slave Called Shiver', 'Tinto Brass' and 'A Smart Kid' are great songs though. I hated Lightbulb Sun. That thing just grates on my last nerve.
