Good Charlotte:
See, this is why we can't understand why you all hate "I Just Wanna Live" so much. It has everything Luke just described, rhyme & rhythm.

sjbrot:

--- Quote from: Dalkaen ---I think the lyrics to most rap are pretty stupid, but they don't bother a lot of people, or they just don't care about the lyrics and listen to the beat and the way said lyrics are delivered.
--- End quote ---

I don't want to look defensive here, but I have to disagree on the point of most rap lyrics being inane. Of course, there are alot of people out there who listen for the beat and don't examine the words, which is valid. But I believe that there is a heck of alot of artists who are putting out stuff that is clever and challenging.

I'm just speaking from personal experience here, though. It's quite possible I've only been exposed to mainstream stuff.

sjbrot:
That is true. Alot of mainstream rap, though there are a good number of exceptions, seems to me to be without artistic merit.

Luke:
(Friendly reminder: quoting the entire post of the person above you is redundant)

I have to agree with the both of you. It just depends on who you're listening to. The stereotypical rap lyric involves pulling out your gat if anybody offends you, or getting head from a girl and taking her money, or making it out of the hood, and so on and so forth. Almost any mainstream hiphop artist will put out an album that's at least half-stereotypical like that, but there is always something on the album that involves much more meaningful lyrics that a greater audience can relate with.

GC: I Just Wanna Live isn't hiphop just because you're trying to look like a rapper in your video. Aren't you wearing a damned strawberry outfit anyway?
