Attended my first concert that I was actualyl old enough to enjoy last night.  Arcade Fire here in Vancouver....wicked awesome show (anyone else go?)

This is the first time that I have attended an event with this many people and not one fight broke out...

I was really amazed at how quickly they have to setup and take down their sets.  Never really realized I guess.  

Well, gonna go nurse this headache now....spent the entire night front row, beside a monitor what was all Violin (not that that is a bad thing)

I could not think of better terms at the time due to headache.  In retrospect, a better term would be

Incredibly wonderfully, amazingly well put together.(especially La Belle Orchestra du Montreal)  Awesome, powerful music from all 3, and an obvious love for what they do.  They had great stage camradrie as well.

Oh man. Yeah, Belle Orchestre was just so pretty. Such ethereal lighting too, a curtain of blues and pinks and indigos. Pretttty.

Wolf Parade was not bad, but I could barely hear the vocals. Not sure if it's because I was right up front. I was a little disappointed by their stage presence/energy though... maybe I have my friend to blame because he hyped them up so much for me. Dan was the only guy who seemed to be really into it (man. he needs to get fed.)... even Spencer barely looked out at the audience during their set.

The Arcade Fire was just.. wow. Even though they pretty much sound like how they do on the album, they just bring so much insane presence and energy. And Win whacking that guitar to bits? How unexpected!

But nothing was cooler than their encores. Oh my god, Wolf Parade went on stage with them, and they reached out for a random audience member (urgh, huge white guys were climbing over me trying to get onto the stage) and they ALL performed Wake Up. It was, insaaaaanity.

Then for their last encore, they actually jumped down from the stage, and walked single-file around the venue while still performing. I didn't recognize the song though.

Man. It was a pretty wild night.

Hah. One of the members from Wolf Parade was immediately at the merch table after the show. That's awesome.

the last tea party concert i went to the guys hung around after the show and i got to have a beer with them... same with the shihad concert i went to.
alot of the smaller local bands that are really good hang around after their shows and talk and have beers with their fans.

When I saw Jens Lekman supporting Darren Hanlon earlier this year, when he finished his slot he said that he'd hang around with his ukelele after the gig to play any songs that fans requested, that didn't get played in the set.  And apparently he was good to his word.

I went to see Sodastream last night, and I'd advise anybody in Australia to catch them if they're coming anywhere near you on their current tour.  They played with a full band, and while the two of them by themselves are normally a treat anyway, having other instruments like drums, cello, and trombone, really made the gig something extra-special.

i just saw the decemberists last night, and i was pleasantly surprised. normally, yeah, i like them, but it's not like i get too excited about their music. they've got a really great stage presence, and so much energy; the whole show was such a thrill. they're very good to their audience - lots of interaction, both amongst themselves (for everyone else's entertainment) and with the audience (for their amusement, i guess).

i'd definitely see them again, they're growing on me.

I saw the Decemberists last night too.  Some of the music worked better live than I thought it would - A Cautionary Song, for example, was fantastic.  It was the most fun I've had in a long time, and I was very close to the stage.

Isn't audience interaction when some dude tries to get up on stage and the bassists kicks him in the face? Or is it when the singer starts pouring beer in peoples mouths on the front row? I'm not quite sure.

Seriously though, I'm intriqued. What do you young people do at your independent rock and roll music recitals? Just sort of stand there?

awkwardly rocking out.  seriously guys, atleast of the dc area...just loosen up, if you want to move and are worried of what other people think of you, you should be, as those people who are looking at the crowd more than the music theyre there for....well yah!  and besides that you just flat out shouldnt be concerned!

I have my choice of 3 upcoming Decemberists shows.  I'd have ordered my ticket already, but I'm in the middle of "Ticketmaster decompression."*

*This is when you go to the venue's site and see that tickets are $18.50 and you think "Hm, that's reasonable," then you follow their link to Ticketmaster where you are reminded that TICKETMASTER IS FUCKING RETARDED and wants an additional $7 for the "convenience" of taking your money, plus $3 for the privilege of receiving a printable electronic ticket (how the hell do you justify charging ten times the amount that it would cost to send the tickets in the REAL MAIL to send me an e-mail?)  So suddenly your $18 show is going to cost you $28 and you're like, "Fuck it," but then you remember that OH WAIT, IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO GET A TICKET because you live 2 hours from the box office and you don't trust the show not to sell out.  So you spend the next 2-36 hours slowly accepting how badly you're about to get raped before you're ready to proceed with the raping.

i was at the arcade fire/wolf parade/ bell orchestre show... the music from arcade fire was fucking great but i enjoyed both arcade fire shows from the last time they were through town more, they both seemed far more intimate. and the crowd last year before arcade fire got hyped wasn't 1/2 teeny boppers/moshers/metallica fans/hip hoppers. i did, however, get the heads up on their end of show acoustic campfire song and managed to be about 6 inches from the band while they folked it up... that was rad. i could have made out with win butler if i was so inclined.

   wolf parade's set was lame... i guess that's what happens when you don't do soundcheck. at least i got to see them in a crack motel a couple weeks back, their performance and sound(the looping synth at the last show was hypnotizing!) was 26x better, and the aih/wp duet of 'do the whirlwind' was much better than the halfbaked af/wp 'wake up'.

   bell orchestre. they're good enough to listen to, but not good enough for me to put on any form of best of list. enjoyable, but forgettable. better live than on the cd though, i'll admit.

all in all, a fun night out with a bunch of friends, but i'd seen better performances from each band. and half the people there disgusted me... there's something about sharing music you love with people who probably listened to sum 41 on their drives home that cheapens the whole experience.

Dude, were you at the aih/wolf parade vancouver show during september? Was it no minors or all ages? I'd be obligated to kick myself if it was all ages.

WP has potential, but their set was lacking.  It did seem hurried to set up and rushed to get through.  I took the time to look up their music today on MySpace and it is actually pretty good.

ooooh im jealous cause tea party are one of my fave bands and i keep missing them :-(

and the shihad guys are pretty nice ... i remember last time i saw them they put on an awesome show and then still had time for the fans which is totally awesome that they take the time to be with their fans

yeah the tea party guys are pretty cool, especially the fact that they are well read which means i have something to talk to them about other then music or complementing them on how awesome they are. shihad are nice guys, but they are pretty f'ing daft.

well i guess weed alcohol and groupies will do that to ya .... my favourite boys to meet were still The Living End, those boys were super impressed by the fact that i got mosh pit bruises for them :-P

Greeley Estates were great sports when I saw them, mostly because they allowed themselves to be photographed with a large and ridiculous painting of dolphins that was in the back of the venue.[/img]

My first Show was probably an old 70's group called ''Canned Heat'' - my father took me to a show when I was like 12 or 13 xD Then I only got to see some ''Pub-music'' (In Germany you can go to a Pub till midnight if your 12 or older and drink beer with 16); until 4 Friends and me got our Hands on Tickets for the oldest and biggest and best Punk Band in our country ... So that was the first ''big'' Concert Experience I shared with a Soccer-stadium full of people[Of course I mean all the seats and the whole field].
A couple of months ago I visited my dad in Dallas, TX where he will work for a year or so and I went to a concert of The Killers [BUT only to see their Openers actually xD].
Also Blindside in the ''Door'' and outnumberous local stuff.

Got Tickets for the Stripes in 3 weeks ^^

Ohmanohmanohmanohmanohman. I just learned that my friend took some videos of the Arcade Fire/Wolf Parade/Belle Orchestre Vancouver show on 10/07! They're not long clips but they're pretty good quality and damn good sound.

There's a short only 1:57 minute clip of Wake Up, but DAMNIT it's even better than I remembered it! **watches it on repeat** Honestly, it's really beautiful.

1) I dunno. They had a lot of energy in Saskatoon. Dan Dante beat the shit out of his wind-chime contraption. And Spencer was playing keyboards very often and therefore had no chance to audience-gaze.

4) I'm thinking if it wasn't "Backseat" that they played on the way out, it mighta been "Cold Wind." That seems like a "walk through the crowd slowly" song. EDIT'D BECAUSE SOMEONE SAID "FOLKED UP" IN REFERENCE TO THE SHOW: Or "Brazil," maybe. Or one of Alvino Rey's tunes.

5) Probably Dan Dante. He used to guitar for Hot Hot Heat!


The Saskatoon stop on that tour is the best concert I've ever seen. The Weakerthans put on a hell of a live show, too, so I suggest seeing 'em if you get the opportunity.

They didnt play In the Backseat for us; Regine had been coughing up blood, I was sooooo expecting them to play it

You can't see the female audience member that went up there, but she's there, behind Spencer. I was pretty much right behind her in the floor.

Naw it wasn't Dan who was at the merch table. I don't remember his name.. Haiji or something? A man with lotsa facial hair! I can't believe Dan used to be in Hot Hot Heat, it doesn't fit the image that he kind of portrays.

When I went to see Broken Social Scene, Metric and Modest Mouse at this outdoor festival... I was front row and stayed there all day (12 hours give or take). I was standing on metal so the sun reflected and I got really bad heat stroke along with food poisoning from a burger... I threw-up (poor boyfriend having to take care of me). Later on a drunk guy tried to beat up our new found friend... overall though an amazing show... twas worth it.
