New Bond, James Bond.
« on: 11 Oct 2005, 03:35 »

It is official.

Apparently.

Actor Daniel Craig is to take over Pierce Brosnan as the new 007. The British  actor who has appeared in films such as Layer Cake, Road To Perdition and...... A Kid in King Arthur's Court, has won the role ahead of some more well known names.

The actor has also been in the news recently as having an affair with Sienna Miller whilst she was with his friend Jude Law, who also had an affair with the nanny. Confused? You should be.

The actor is also known to be more rugged than smooth in his looks, famous for the nickname Mr Potato Head.

Personally I'm not overly impressed. I had hoped for Clive Owen to be given the role as personally I thought he was the best candidate. We shall wait and see I guess.....

Don't believe Bond casting rumors. I doubt this one is real as well. Didn't they want a "younger" Bond?

At least Brosnan's gone.

Call me crazy, but when Bond is more interested in staring at himself than the Bond chick, then theres a problem.

Plus, he was just the worst bond ever.

rubbish. No bond could possibly have been worse than george lazenby.

Bond went downhill when they started going for hollywood editing techniques, and took bribe money from BMW to be their whores.

My favorite Bond movie is "The Living Daylights." While many people say Dalton was too cold and cruel to be Bond, he was apparently the closest to the Ian Flemming idea of the character.

Daniel Craig kinda has that look, so I'm somewhat interested in what they'll do.

Daniel Craig looks a bit like Steve McQueen, who would be my first choice to star in anything.

Dalton was really the most sinister and cold?  I had read he was probably the most sensitive of the Bonds, to fit in with the 80s/early 90s he was in.  Aren't we forgetting Casino Royale?  I never saw that or a Lazenby Bond film though.

Connery pWnZ j00!

Well, Connery and Moore both had a warm face, lighter hair. They looked more friendly. Dalton was all jagged and dark. But I suppose you do have something with the sensitivity issue. All the better for my enjoyment of Dalton.

But in the eternal Connery VS Moore debate. Connery. I couldn't type that fast enough to emphasize the fervor of my choice.

And while Goldeneye was a pretty kick ass Bond movie, all the rest have been terrible since Brosnon got on board. Even "A View To A Kill" had some fun moments. Die Another Day was just lame. Except that kinda neat sword fight. But then again, any sword fight that isn't just your standard "we had no real fight choreographer" slice from the top left, then the top right, now big swoosh...you get my drift.

They totally should have Sean Connery play a baddie in one of the bond movies. before he dies that is.

I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL...

I like the choice alot, when I saw layer cake I was like "he would make a kick ass bond" and bam here he is, soon to be drinking shaken martini's and doing super villan's lady friends.

also I don't see why everyone thinks george lazenby is so horrible, he only got one movie to be bond, he never even got a chance to settle into the role, I might be bias though, since on her majesty's secret service is my favorite bond movie, even though he's not the best bond he certainly is good enough for the part, plus the theme for the movie is so kick ass

i heard news somewhere (possibly the Inter-web) that the new bond will be undergoing significant character reformation... not so smooth, suave, womanising or debonair. I guess a bunch of marketing goons with ponytails sat around a big table and decided to tell us what we want. Again.

After hearing this, Vin Diesel in the role would not have suprised me. Actually, i was really hoping for christian bale or eddie izzard.

Well, it IS Bond's first mission, right?  Only fair to show that he had a lot of refining to do back in the day.

The character in the books is a lower or middle class, chainsmoking scot who has worked his way up in the world and is always supposed to be, whilst perfectly suave and confident, a tad uneasy in the elevated circles in which he moves. He is described as having a slightly cold and ruthless, yet debonair air. Connery's early films were by far the most book-accurate portrayals. Moore and Lazenby the least, whilst Brosnan matches up reasonably well with the later novels not authored by Fleming (where, for example, Bond had stopped smoking.) Craig actually doesn't look that bad compared to Fleming's original drawing of bond:

But he really should dye his hair.

A friend of mine is convinced that each bond movie is a parallel universe, wherein each mission is in fact Bond's First Mission.  I'm sure a more dedicated Bond fan than I could find cross-movie references to partially debunk that, but it's actually a rather nifty theory.

Daniel Craig was pretty fucking smooth in Layer Cake.  So...sounds like a fit.  Though my understanding is that he's not in the running.  Whatever.

As far as I'm aware he has actually been confirmed as the next bond.  There was something on the the BBC news website last week about his first press-conference which was a bit of a wash-out.

I think he'd make a really good bond personally.  I can't say I've seen him in any recent films but he was stunning a BBC series called 'Our Friends in the North' in the mid-90s.

I hoped Clive Owen or Christian Bale, but this chap seems pretty cool. Seriously though, whoever will help them bring out more Bond movies. Seriously, what the fuck, they are kind of far apart...

Also, seriously, it is about time they used Alan Ford as a Bond villain.

Also also: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAHAHAHHHHAAAAA

Call me crazy (as many have) but I realy thought that Rodger Moore was a peice of shit. Peirce was alot better.

I don't think it's fair to compare anyone to Sean Connery.

I think that Craig will make a good Bond, Layer Cake was quite good. And it's nice to hear they're going for a more gritty take on Bond, should prove interesting.
