Personally my favourite bands are older bands. I mean a generation or two old bands. My favourite 60's rock band is The Doors. I think that it's beacause the songs have interesting subtext and have good rythym and melodies. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, and The Rolling Stones come in close though.
The only "grunge" rock (that I have heard) that I think is worthy to be deemed music is Nirvana. Seriously, En Utero is awesome.
As far as heavy metal goes, Black Sabbath seems to be the best, though Ozzy did do crazy good stuff on his own (Blizard of Oz... period). Metallica has a few songs that I can listen to, understand and like, and I have heard that ACDC is good, but have no access to their music.
Oh, and for the record, aside from Neil Young and Jhonny Cash songs, country music isn't music.

That poll is pretty messed up.

I vote The Beatles, but that's only because this thread claims to be about 60s Psychedelia - Pink Floyd only had one and a bit albums of psychedelia, and good thought it was it doesn't match the Beatles' four or five.

We're talking 60's psychedelic rock here, right? Most of the bands you named are neither 60's nor psychedelic. But I voted the Doors, for no particular reason. I was in a "let's vote for the Doors" kind of mood, say.

Yeah, i think only the beatles count as phchadelic 60s rock. Since they practically invented it anyway, they get my vote.

The Doors qualify as psychedelic, and Pink Floyd's early albums do (I would say that Wish You Were Here was the end of their psychadelic era and the beignning of the prog), and certainly the latter half of the Beatles' career.

Aside from those three, none of these bands are psychadelic.

Furthermore, Nirvana is not a good band. And the best Black Sabbath albums had nothing to do with Ozzy.

Firstly, where the hell are Jefferson Airplane and the Zombies?! Seriously, those are two of the most psycadelic bands in ever. Also, Metallica? Nirvana? WHAT?

It's not as though it really matters. What does is how great psycedelia is. I think that the world is really made a better place by albums like "Sgt. Pepper's...", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Odyssey & Oracle", and "Surrealistic Pillow". It's a really simple, enjoyable, and all-encompasing genre of rock that doesn't really bother with expert musicianship or songwriting ability, but doesn't allow for a lack of talent either. Also, it is the genre of the Phaser and the Vibrato pedals. Both of which are super-fun to play through.

I personally think that Sgt. Pepper's is an incredibly overrated album. Sure, it was good, but many people call it the 'best album of all time'. I think that that is patently ridiculous, as it's not even the best Beatles album. Revolver and Rubber Soul are clearly superior.

The poll was about music in general. And actually I did want to put Jefferson Airplane (psychadelic Pillow is awesome), and others but I only had room for so many so I had to comprimize with myself and put only a few of my favourite bands.
And to the dude talking about how I am fucked, I'd like one example of good country "music".

Black Sabbath as the best metal ever? shit no. What about the millions of vastly different metal bands? There's really no way to categorize it down to one band; Black metal or death metal? Thrash metal or Prog Metal? You can't really compare between them; at all. What about Sabbat, Finntroll, Skyclad, old Dimmu, Dream THeater (at times), Iron fucking Maiden, the Coil, Motorhead, S.O.D., Bal Sagoth, Crotchduster, Manowar, ...And Oceans, Aryeon, Wuthering Heights, Edge of Sanity?

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

For the record, the Thirteenth Floor Elevators invented psychedelic rock.

I am so sick of hearing people roughly my age telling me that rock music peaked several decades ago.  The worst part, is if these people have any new discs in their collection they're usually by Green Day.  Half of our generation has acquiesed to our parents notions of what great music is while the other half seem to swallow whatever MTV spoon feeds them.  It takes some digging to discover great music being made today but I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.  Listen to Spiritualized: Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space and then get back to me.

Basically, you have entirely missed the point of everything by not having the 13th Floor Elevators on your poll. You also missed The Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO, so you fail twice.

Then you diss country, making a Holy Trinity of failure. Listen to Lefty Frizzell and maybe I'll be interested in your opinions.

That list warms the cockles of my fucking heart.

How come everyone's mentioning psychedelia and not one word in for Hawkwind? Come on people! Hawkwind have collectively taken more drugs than any other band ever. I mean, we're talking about a band so chilled they kicked Lemmy out because they couldn't stand him being so hyper all the time. There's also a strong possibility they have the largest discography ever, 39 albums (not counting singles, EPs, compilations, remixes etc.) and still going.

Anyway, if we're talking about metal, and we're talking about drugs, why are we keeping the two so seperate? Orange Goblin! Acid Bath! Ewigkeit! The Meads of Asphodel! Electric Wizard! And of course, because there's no doubt about it, we can't live without it...Tankard. Because Tankard rule hard and they sing about the purity of chemical-free German beer, which is essentially the most metal thing ever.

Come on people!

THANK YOU!

P.S. Whoever said that Pink Floyd stopped being psychedelic after WYWH - erm...no. They stopped being psychedelic pretty much as soon as the 70s started.
