The Eyeball FAQ has been updated! The red text is what's been updated. This one is actually Safe For Work believe it or not.

Oops, forgot to look at the comments to my post. Now that the Avengers movies have come out, I think she would have less problems getting the hammer because she COULD essentially claim she just likes the comics, but this is also a person who believes that Thunor is her personal deity and that he told her to get it on her left forearm, so I have a feeling that if someone asked her, she would say something to that effect. She's also a very in-your-face type person (as is often the way of Heathens) so I think any line of questioning would probably end poorly. This was months ago now; not sure if she ever got it done. Just wanted to point out that in some places, I think that honestly you need to think EXTREMELY carefully before getting a swastika, no matter which way it's facing or how it's stylized, because you WILL be considered a part of the supremacist group that's pretty prominent here (the name of which I am completely blanking on right now). It's sad that it's such a knee-jerk reaction, but with the high racial tension in Birmingham, I feel like someone should strongly consider avoiding that symbolism because I'm not sure how many people would stop to let you explain what it means.

Also it occurs to me that some of you might be interested in watching a Modify. It's a documentary about body modification from 2005. It's a well done and interesting looking into the culture from various POVs, including Drag Queens, gender reassignment, plastic surgery, body building, tattooing, implants and scarification though it definitely focuses more on certain aspects of it.

It's on youtube right here: Modify It's NSFW, just in case you might not realize that.

That's actually something that started to bother me about the body mod community in the last several years. The amount of judgement from the community for any work that isn't both "artistic" and also of ridiculously high quality is ridiculous. On one hand, it's done a good job of encouraging people to seek out better artists and for artists to improve their work, on the other hand it's encouraged an incredibly classist attitude that I find incredibly counter to the point of modification in the first place.

This is a great little information piece. Though honestly, while hearing people call plugs gauges makes me twitch, I do find it odd how much hatred the industry has for it.

Edit: Of course I also haven't spent 20 years listening to customers use the wrong terminology while I'm talking about stabbing them.

I only had to deal with selling jewelry - at Hot Topic - and I can't fucking stand people that use the wrong terminology. Now, I am aware that they may just not know, and that's fine. So I correct them, in a ridiculously polite way... and they argue with me. And I promptly give up, sell them their shit, and forget they exist. I think the bigger annoyance is just that people won't fucking listen when you correct them. And you, eventually, start to assume that that's how most people are going to be about it.

I really like the Pangea videos. I'm not really into piercings but they make me want all the piercings, especially facial ones which again, I'm not a fan of most of the time. I don't dislike them, I just don't get excited about them. I found the terminology interesting and genuinely only knew the wrong names or didn't know the names at all. I'll happily be corrected.

The big ones for me are all of the regional names for piercings and some of the stupid fucking terminology around stretching. If someone tells me they got "____ Bites" one more goddamn time I'm gonna stab something.

A big part of it is that it makes determining what the hell everyone is talking about in an online world rather difficult. Also there are about 6 or 7 different bites and it changes depending on where someone is from as to what part of the body the piercing is for. It's maddening.

I don't fuss about names too much. "guages" makes me cringe.  "bite" is only a problem for me because the names are so inconsistent.  If someone says s snake bite they might mean:

The only thing I don't like about the Pangea videos sometimes are how the dudes sounds like he is talking very laboriously to enunciate every syllable. But I like the knowledge I gain from them.

I have been guilty of calling my stretched ears, and various jewelry gauges. But I mostly do it when talking to unmodified plebs so they don't know the difference.
