MaiAda, your tattoo is super cute. I love it.

Guys, I've got too many labrets and not enough balls. I'm thinking of just upgrading all my face jewellery to blackline, I've not worn it before and I'd be really interested to see how different it looks to steel/plain titanium. Also my right lobe is 8mm and my left lobe is 6mm. I am creeping closer and closer to that 1/2".

Dear Tattoo Thread,

Ok so i read the majority of this thread (the first few pages and then from Jan 08 on) in the past day or two and I have a few questions for you guys.  I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for the past two years or so, but just turned 18 in September.  I've been thinking of getting a swallow, probably colored in.  Since i don't know exactly what I want to do with my life yet, i don't want anything on my arms (yet, i'm already sort of planning half sleeves  :-o) so i was thinking of putting it on my calve, since its easy to see and show off, easy to hide, and not particularly as out front as something on my arm.  So my questions are:

How does tattooing on a calve feel?  I think I have a decent pain thresh-hold, and i'm not scared of needles or anything like that.  How fast would something like that heal?

Would the fact that i have hairy legs make the tattoo look bad?  I'm sure this is a minute worry but i don't want to have to keep shaving my legs for it to look the best haha.

Ballpark price?  I don't imagine it being THAT big, and i'll probably get it colored in.  I live in the North New Jersey area, and after a little research, plan on going to Mario Barth's Starlight 17.  Does anyone know anything about this place?  This one happens to be in my town, but there are a few other locations that are very close.

Thanks, Kyle

For the record, half sleeves aren't generally detrimental to jobs as a guy, long as they don't go far past the elbows. Pretty much any job that doesn't care for tattoos is generally going to require a shirt that's going to be long enough to cover it anyway.

There are notable exceptions, but hell if I can name them off the top of my head.

Of my 3 tattoos the calf one was by far the least painful, so don't worry about it. It also did not take long to heal. Before you get the tattoo the artist will take a bic to your leg, so don't worry about your hair (unless you're planning on wearing shorts and don't want everyone to see your partially shaven leg). Price entirely depends on level of detail and who's doing it.

I need to dig through my pictures and find ones of my tattoo (hint: one of them is really fucking nerdy )

I would recommend wearing shorts and being prepared to not walk around too much right after. I'm not assuming it's common, but my first tattoo was on my calf (Why I didn't think to note that is beyond me, considering it was the point of the question) and it bled a good bit from walking immediately after.

It doesn't hurt much, but both my tattoos are in meaty areas (Calf and bicep). It does get really twitchy and sting a bit when you approach the knee, though. If it's a small piece halfway down the calf, though, it'll be cake.

I was stupid enough to forget that I was working the next day and I had to wear pants to work! Not entirely pleasant, but a little foresight could easily prevent this.

My calf tattoo wasn't too painful, and I actually walked around quite a bit after getting it done. I want to a concert the next day, and walked all about the city. It's somewhat big and cost $350 including tip. I got it down in South Carolina.

If your tattoo was still bleeding the next day, that was probably a problem. Mine was done bleeding after a couple hours.

Where exactly on your calf did you get it?  At the beginning for some reason, i kind of figured it on the inside of my right leg but now i'm thinking the back of my right leg.  Also, thanks for the fast responses!

Damn...Can't find one, I'll take one in a couple minutes.

Until then, I have my favorite tattoo (It ends right below my armpit):

http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp309/direbacterium/P1010054-1.jpg

And I actually wound up finding a picture of my ex's swallows in case you need any frame of reference for them:

http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp309/direbacterium/P1010053-1.jpg

(Note: when people ask her why she got those she responds with "because I like to swallow so much"

Edit: here is a picture:
http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp309/direbacterium/Picture.jpg

Turned my pictures into links....I'm pretty sure I was thread whoring for a second there

That piece on your ribs, Dire, is pretty awesome.  The one on your leg is where i was thinking of getting it, but on the inside.  If you don't mind my asking, do you remember how much yours cost?  I also really like yours, Em (both the placement and the design).  I'm thinking i might end up with mine on the back.

Considering how huge my second paycheck will be for this new job I have, I really need to sort out getting my other shoulder done. I really want to get it before I go to boston and I also noticed today that I really need to get my other shoulder tattoo fixed up. It is patchy as fuck.

Jimmy, why not just wait until Boston? It'd be a pretty bitchin' experience and fun to be able to say "A fucking tattoo" when someone asks if you got any cool souvenirs on your trip.

Plus, Eed has already booked herself an appointment to get one done while everyone's up here. Shit, if you go too, I might consider getting myself something new.

Guys, my sister, stepsister and I are apparently all getting tattoos after christmas. They won't be related at all, I want another one and so do they. Also, 3 years ago, my sister promised that she'd go with me and get a tattoo. Bitch is gonna deliver on her promises. Although my tattoo will be more badass than hers.

Pants, that seems very Illuminati.

In other news, I'm quite pleased with where I decided to put mine (the next one will probably be on my ankle), because if I ever have a job that doesn't allow these things, I juast have to put on some clothes.

Also, it's fucking hard to take a picture of your own shoulder blade. Take my advice folks, if you plan to do this, get a friend.

His name is Harold, and he didn't really hurt. The cap on my half sleeve was way more painful. I also, because where is is has no bending or anything, didn't have any problems healing him; it took like two weeks.

Thats a great tattoo!  So I'm definitely going for it.  The only thing i haven't completely decided on is whether or not to get it colored, and what the exact design will look like, but i'll leave that up to the artist.  I passed it by my mom today (even though i'm 18) and she was cool with it.  She can't argue though, she has two small ones and i bet she will wind up getting them redone when i get mine.  I don't think i'm going to tell my dad though haha.  Last question, does anyone know whether or not shops typically get busy this time of year?

Price is a pretty big issue, really. If I go to the House Of Pain (the place I now go to) it'll be roughly $180 Australian. Given the way the Australian dollar is at the moment it will much more expensive to get it done in America and I'd like it to be healed before I go so I can do fun stuff like moving my arm.

Also, the fact that I have been quoted in someone's signature makes me feel a tad famous.

I like to think your octopus is just the baddest ass and all the other octopuses (firefox is saying that is the plural of octopus but it looks wrong to me) want to take it out so they can be the baddest octopus, thus he has been in so many underwater knife fights that he lost three arms.

Also: Thank you Tania! I love when I wear boots so you can see just his little paws trying to climb out of the boot or something. And for zombie pub crawl I ripped my pants so it looked like he clawed the hole in and put fake blood on his mouth. I went full dork

What about orgasmic chemistry.

I can expand the definition of that if anyone wants to roll around to my Fortress of Love.
