When the hair grows back you won't be able to see it.

It will be kind of obscured on my little brother, but I've got lovely ladies' legs and that would not be a problem if I get it.
My main objection to getting it presently is the cross on top. Also the lines could be tidier. Things to think about.

Will you only date Tiffanys?

If it happens, it's coverable... with that tribal sleeve tat I mentioned... It's already drawn out if I need it...

This is unbelievably depressing to me.

YES I LOVE DAY OF THE DEAD TATTOOS

Same. My siblings and I regularly debate the merits of getting tattoos associated with distinctly Mexican imagery. My brother and I seem to feel that we're not really, well, Mexican enough to pull it off or feel like we have a genuine connection to the idea, whereas my sister is pretty interested. Frankly, though, the story of my life basically boils down to feeling intensely out of place no matter where I am, so maybe we're just being silly.

Thank you all for the compliments. And the day of the dead tattoo is on my stomach. It is actually a cover up of another tattoo. Beautifully done eh? And I am not at all mexican, but my husband is. We love Day of the Dead themed things, in fact, our entire wedding was themed day of the dead. If interested in seeing it, I could post some pics in the pic thread. But get that tattoo if you want it. You don't have to be mexican, you don't have to be even hard core about it, tattoos represent how you feel, how you want to express yourself and how you want to be remembered.

P.S. For some reason I totally love the idea of celtic and mexican cultural fusion. That concept tickles me almost as much as my Jamaican-Scottish friend.

Since there's a slight chance it might brighten your day, I think you should know that I'm half Mexican and a 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Norwegian. I could have been the first guy in the Flannery family line named Alejandro, but my mother decided to go a bit more mundane at the last minute. A missed opportunity, if you ask me.

A tattoo fusing all three heritages would be rather... interesting. Unfortunately, the first thing that comes to mind is a scene from Ragnarok, except instead of Thor fishing up and wrestling the midgard serpent, he'd be fighting Quetzalcoatl, and the boat could be floating in a sea of lucky charms instead of the ocean.

Technically, Alex is my middle name, and my parents got divorced, leading to my mother remarrying by the time I was 3 (hence why it's Alex C); so really, there is a lot of completely understandable reasons why my name was never Alejandro Flannery. Doesn't mean I cannot dream about what might have been though.

Tattoos are awesome, but I wouldn't have the first idea of what to get, especially because my increasing neuroses are convincing me that because I hate my freckles, I would soon grow to hate any other semipermanent marring on my glowing pastiness.

Also I think I pierced the wrong part of my nose because Skibs's and Jodie's septum piercings are awesome and my nostril piercing is starting to look dumb to me.  Does anyone know how things like that heal up and if not if I could even begin to attempt pulling off all of the above?  My eyebrows aren't really good enough to pierce and I don't want to pierce my lips because I'm a band geek, but I really enjoy facial piercings.  Halp.

I'm not really big on piercings, but I absolutely hate eyebrow piercings.  They're totally ugly and unbecoming on anyone I've ever seen with it.  I also really hate the ring on the nostril.  Septums are cool and studs in the nose are alright but the ring on the nostril is ugly, it reminds me of a booger hanging out of their nose or something.

Sorry if this offends anyone, it's just my opinion

Nah... it looks fine... I've seen it done much worse... lolz

Facial piercings weren't quite the trend when I was coming up that they are now...  I've had a few jobs where appearance is important and I was advised that it might be inappropriate to have such piercings when I became interested in them...  Although they said the same things about tats and I went ahead and got those...  'spose its just a matter of time...  I think I'm going to get the eyebrow thing.  It didn't look too bad on the guy from Staind and we have similar enough face shapes and occasionally the same hair cut...

Also, I was wondering if anyone has any advice about getting a first tatoo? I am somewhat nerdish so I was thinking of getting and old fashioned cog but on my shoulderblade? how likely is that to hurt and what would be the likely cost from the usual sort of tatooist.

The cost depends on the size and detail. I have 2 tattoos, both about 3x5 inches. One cost around $150 and took an hour and it was a plain anchor with some text and the other cost around $300 and took nearly 3 hours and it was a pretty complex eagle. So i think $100/hr is a reasonable price to expect for a black ink tattoo.

also, neither tattoo hurt. it felt almost therapeutic.

Yeah, it depends a lot on region and all that. I know around here $125/hour is a good deal for a good artist, but at the same time, we have a local studio who's owner cost around $250- $400 an hour depending on several different factors.

If it's small enough to go for shop minimum, $75 is a possibility, my shop has a $50 minimum. But $75 for something that isn't a minimal piece of work is the kind of work that get's you sent to the hospital for nasty nasty things or at the very least will likely look like shit and fade ridiculously fast.

This pricing of course goes out the window if you're good friends with a good artist.

nahhh, I just like wondering outloud, and this place seemed like a good area to do it.

I would quite like a little cog on the back of my shoulder, but I always find it interesting to see what people think and to then think of other stuff that could be awesome alongside it.

I don't intend to get a tatoo till at best the last few weeks of next summer, just before I get my first real job.

ooooh, the watch idea sounds fun.

Actually I have a few interests, drama, fencing, swiming (which I can't do at uni, mores the stuffing pity). Prachett as well and all the books but... I don't really want a quote put onto me, no matter how much I believe it because it can look stupidly pretentious.

I was planning on just having a normal one, a sort of stylised cog the size of a thumb on my right shoulder, but I do like the idea of the clock mechanisms.

Hey bud... I'll agree with nobo that they don't hurt per se...  but if you are extremely sensitive to pain... I'd check it out first...  But I love it, myself...  As far as pricing goes... like nobo said... depends on the size and complexity...  Look around and check on the shops... make sure you're comfortable where you end up...  Good luck man...
