I know a girl with a Maryland state pride tattoo that I actually think looks pretty good. It's the outline of a baltimore checkerspot butterfly, filled with the dual-crest designs from our state flag.

I approve of state outline tattoos. Mainly because they look badass. I love simple designs and outlines of states are great for that.

I agree with Emaline. I think they can look fantastic depending on the actual style. I think earlier in this thread or in another tattoo thread before I mentioned that I wanted just an outline of ND because people would be all "wtf it is a rectangle but they messed up the one side" and then tattoo Chuck Klosterman and Marge Gunderson's faces inside it.

State outlines are pretty cool. NJ has a very nice shape to it as well, so it would be a pretty great tat. Personally, I think a relatively plain solid black border tat would probably work best.

Thanks guys.  If it got it, it'd be like Em and Tyler said, just a thick black outline, probably on the side of my left leg.  I may or may not do something else with it other than the outline, I just haven't decided yet.

Also, that ND tat is an excellent idea.  I love Klosterman's work and with Marge, you'd need her saying "eh?" or something hahaha.

I went through my old photobucket. I actually said "Uffda" the other day on the phone to a customer not from MN/ND. I felt pretty dumb but I don't think they got it.

I've thought about getting a keystone tattoo but I'd probably wait until I left PA to do it. And I don't really want to leave PA.

Piercing question: So for the past almost-two months my piercings have been healing up quite nicely, the upper cartilage is pretty much healed now. But last week a little white pimple sprung up next to my tragus, right by the hole. It only hurts when I touch it, and then not even so much, but it's still a little alarming, plus it looks gross. I'm still soaking 2x/day and washing (though I only wash now when I take a shower, so once a day), and moving the ring around, the ring moves fine. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is this par for the course with piercings? I have to strongly restrain the urge to treat it like a normal pimple and squeeze the shit out of it.

It's basically there due to irritation. Unfortunately this is something that's quite common for cartilage piercings. However, you should stop moving the ring around and stop touching it. Personally, I'd stop soaking the moment it stops being upset, but I'm also a big fan of LITHA (Leave it the Hell Alone). Your body generally does a good job of healing it all on it's own once you've got it calmed down. Sticking with washing it only once a day in the shower would be a good idea.

If you pop it I will have to hunt you down and rub your nose in the drippings.

Also, keep in mind that cartilage piercings healing period tends to be 6 - 12 months, so you've got a good while before the "healing" problems stop being an issue. Cartilage is just very very touchy.

Good luck! Those little bumps are quite irritating.

I think state pride tats are nice. I really like whomever stated that someone had the tattoo with the butterfly filling it in. That would be cool as well. New Jersey has this really cool bugs. Like the Mourning cloak or the Gypsy Moth. But whatever you get, Im sure it will look great!

A good way to try and get rid of the bump on cartilage piercings is to do chamomile compresses, so buy some chamomile tea bags, boil them up and wait until the tea cools, and press the teabag against the piercing. It calms it down and soothes irritation which should help. Also seeing as you've had it two months now, it may be time to stop with the SSS and as ackblom said, just LITHA for a while and only wash it in the shower. If it calms down and the bump is still there, then perhaps try nuking it with Tea Tree oil, but it's pretty harsh for new piercings so it may be worth saving that for if the bump doesn't go away in a few months.

Ohhh I have come up with the concept for my next tattoo! I am a huge, HUGE Scifi fanatic. So I can going to get a pinup girl surrounded by a montage of scifi things from my favorite shows.  Soooo can I get some help. I need pictures of some of the greatest scifi things ever. I want to have a bit of everything included.

Here is a list of shows that I have come up to still something from for the tat.

Fringe
Lost
BSG
Red Dwarf
Firefly
Star Trek
Star Wars

And then I spaced. So give me more ideas please.

Oh oh but I must tell you about the pin up girl. She is going to be a cylon! That is right, im going to have her standing with her back to us all and her spine is going to be lit up! Im so excited.

Lost - The numbers/Dharma logo
BSG - Colonial Viper/Cylon Raider/A frakkin' basestar/Gaeta's stump(do this one)
Firefly - Serenity? I guess.
Star Trek - Any Enterprise(I'm actually partial to the NX-01)/DS9/a comm badge/a bat'leth
Star Wars - Man, all OT Star Wars ships are badass. Except for Y-wings. They're silly.

Other shows to consider:

The Prisoner
Farscape
Babylon 5
Dune
Classic Scifi movies (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, etc.)
2001
Blade Runner

Another good way is Tea Tree Oil. It smells like ass, but, when I had my industrial done it got rid of a gigantic keloid. For those of you unfamiliar with what a Keloid is, I would suggest caution when googling images, bad ones aren't pretty.

I think I may get a little strip of parchment with "you can be me when I'm gone" written on it next to the head of my sparrow. It's from sandman, so it continues my comic book arm, and kind of the death theme of that arm too. I kinda want to get it soon, and I want feedback before I rush off to it.

Do it.

I'm thinking of getting another tattoo when my loan comes in, my friend paid for my last one (cause I said I would never get a tattoo and then she said she would pay for it if I got one, seemed fair enough). Not entirely sure what to get  though, I'm thinking something a bit science geeky, or possibly something surfing related.

Word, this is what I'm getting next with the monster theme (first is for my momma; she has one for me and mine will be similar to hers). I drew it; it needs to be cleaned up a bit (like the tongue is odd [it might be better to omit the tongue completely] and some of the curls are looking awkward how they are).

So, I went to my two best friends in the world about my tattoo deliema(is that spelled right? For the first time ever, it looks right at least). One is a self professed "miserely jew," the other often buys things he probably shouldn't(he can afford them, but they put him in a tight spot).

The first one seemed very disappointed in me for wanting to spend my tax money on anything but rent. He said that I need to be responsible, god damn it. And that I am dumb for even thinking about it(I asked him to say that. Dude's not a complete jerk. He's actually really nice.)

The second one encouraged me, going so far as to look up a bunch of pictures for me. He thinks I should do it, and would be silly not to.

So, I'm still at a loss. I have no idea what to do. And while browsing last night, I came across picture of microdermal implants, which man, I have been wanting those for awhile. I wanted a majestic piercing, but a regular piercing there is prone to rejection. However, microdermals fair pretty damn well for surface piercings....

you could put part of your return toward the tattoo and wait until you save up the rest?

i mean if you aren't going to be able to afford the tat even after that then you probably shouldn't be spending money on it just yet.

Danosaur, the new design has big crossbones going through the skin with a little heart on it and some blood drips down onto and umbrella with a cute little rattie hanging off the bottom.  Well that is added under the Catacomb Kittens bit with the kitties and the archway and the skulls and the spiderwebs and the moooooon.

GUYS THIS IS ON MY ARM NOW AND IT RULES.  I won't have photos until I get home on Sunday, and take some, and hab\ve my computer and can upload them.  But it turns out that tattoos (on your arm at least) don't really hurt very much at all.  Occasionally I gritted my teeth.  Mostly I sang along to the Stray Cats.

I am totes thrilled with it.  It is pretty colours!
