It's a pretty bad idea when you can legally purchase sterilized hollow point needles from here: http://shop.bmezine.com/product/piercing-needle/

For posterity, it actual says those are not pre-sterilized. Sterilizing isn't hard, though.

Well I don't think a safety pin is the best type of pin to use

The first 6 of my ear piercings were done this way. That was because it was 1994 & no-one knew anything. It does not make me cool it makes me stupid.

Also, I am buying my other half a chest piece for his birthday, I am getting another rose on my arm. I'm excited. I will put pictures up. They will be beautiful, the girl doing them is stupidly talented. (& hot which is always nice)

Not that I am really considering this, but out of curiosity how terrible an idea is it to just sterilize a safety pin and shove it through an ear lobe?

A dude from my old school did that with a paperclip. Though that ear was already pierced.

I know several people who've pierced themselves with safety pins, but it was always either the eyebrow or the septum. It was gross. Please don't do it.

So given that the Bender and plankton tattoos are clearly cartoon tattoos, it might stand to reason that the ham roast is just another cartoon that I do not recognize, but, I still really hope that it is not a reference to a cartoon and one of you friends had a DIY tattoo gun and you just got a ham on a whim because he was super hungry or something.

P.S.
actually, you know what, if anyone can suggest any tips or advice on how to reduce piercings scars/dents that would be petty fantastic because i don't really have any ideas. i know i probably won't be able to make my lip hole disappear completely, but anything i can do to reduce it would be great.

Super late reply, but, as a purely theoretical sort of scientist (mathematician) and not any sort of applied person (scientist, engineer, doctor, employable person), I would imagine that if you renewed the wound it would heal over again if there were no ring in the way? Sounds super sketchy though.

Well, tweety is also a retarded tattoo to get though.

I have also been considering a Charlie Brown tattoo, although I was thinking of getting him, shortly post missing the football, all horizontal,  with lucy next to him holding it, and a little speech bubble that says "Augh!"

Either that or him just bein sad saying "sigh".

Probably the first one though.

Blargh. So, for quite some time now, my microdermal piercing had been a happy, cheery nice piercing. This morning it was still that way. However, as my day went on, I noticed that my chest was hellsa itchy. I pulled my shirt down, and my microdermal was huge, and pus filled looking, and red all around! I'm doing a sss now, and actually, as I was typing this I sort of nudged it with the gaze I was sssing it with, and the pus flowed out. Any ideas on what the hell happened, or what to do? I'm thinking I'll see how it does after this sss and check on it tomorrow morning, but if it's not better suggestions are welcome.

Is it hot to the touch? What color is the oozy? How swollen is it in comparison to the ring (is it a ring or is it a screw?)?

Just in case you aren't familiar with the measurements...

1 teaspoon Sea Salt in an 8 oz. mug

Fill with hot as you can stand it water

Use a shot glass to soak the hell out of it as soon as you get home.

Hope it starts feeling better soon.

It's warm, the ooze is light greenish-yellowish-white, and theres a little blood, and its not majorly swollen.
I'm now soaking the shit out of it.

Alright, just keep up with babying it and basically do everything you normally would if it was angry. Keep a close eye on it, baby the shit out of it and basically tell it nice things. Make it feel pretty.

If it is hot to the touch tomorrow or still oozing anything resembling that greenish hue, get your ass to a doctor and grab some antibiotics. You shouldn't need to take the piercing out unless it starts to scar or if the pain keeps up/escalates. Good luck and keep us up to date.

Sorry about that, don't check the thread quite as often as I used to and was not sure if it was still an issue.

Have the sss been helping at all? What coloring is the puss, assuming it's still being produced? Is it painful? Is it hot to the touch? Does it appear to be rejecting? Do you have any really unharsh soap like provon to clean it?

It's possible that your body has just quite suddenly it is not down with that piece of work, but I know in the couple cases it's come on quickly like that for me it's either been an ingrown hair (unlikely considering how microdermals work) or a hair just kind of deciding to grow right into it, also kind of unlikely unless you get the occasional dark chest hair. From the sounds of it you didn't knock it around at all beforehand so that seems unlikely.

Had you used any lotions or anything on the chest that day that may have gotten a little too close? Not trying to be offensive, honestly, spend a couple of days not showering possibly? Not normally a problem but not a bad idea to do more often if you don't already do it on a daily basis.

Otherwise, have you had a chance to go see your piercer yet?

My piercer lives in a different state now. :( I've yet to find another, and my basic knowledge of the shops around here is that they have shitty piercing care.

The sss helped a bit, soothed it some. The pus is gone mostly, just crusties when I wake up. It's not hot, nor does it hurt. It's still somewhat swollen, and very red. I shower pretty regularly, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't that, and I don't use lotions. Really, I'm pretty sure it was from my cat. I was sleeping topless that night, and he decided to lay on my chest and touch it. Not so much grab it or anything, but just touch it. Overall, the pain and whatnot has gone down. But it's still gross looking. Thoughts?

(And thanks for the advice)

The cat sounds right. If it seems to be calming down you should probably just stick to what you're currently doing for the next week or so. As long as it keeps improving and doesn't start rejecting or suddenly get bad again, it's probably just gonna take a little patience. got any Provon you can use to wash around it in the shower?

I have something similar to this except his no dyes, scents, or moisturizers. I was actually just looking at it, and I noticed that the redness is basically gone. It's a bit pink around it but it doesn't look bad at all.

Sounds like the soap should be perfectly fine. Also it sounds like it's calming down quite nicely. With any luck it's done, but I'd probably keep up with soaks and light soap wash for a day or two until all symptoms are gone.
