The debut is very rough and can be kind of hard to get into. Start off with Viva Last Blues and Lost Blues and Other Songs. Two of the best records Will Oldham's produced (the latter is a rarities compilation). If you like Master and Everyone from the Bonnie 'Prince' catalogue, check out Days in the Wake, which is almost entirely Will Oldham and his guitar. Hope is also damn good, but short (6 songs, less than half an hour). It includes "Agnes, Queen of Sorrow", which is something of a Palace-era classic.

How about Greatest Palace Music, is that one any good as an introduction?

Hmm . . . Greatest Palace Music is a bit of a piss-take, to be honest.  Some people love it, some hate it.  I fall more into the former category, however the versions of the songs on there generally differ so much from the originals that I wouldn't trust the album to be an accurate introduction for the uninitiated to Palace-era Will Oldham.

On reflection, get Viva Last Blues.  You need to hear "New Partner".

If I ever have daughters, they're not going to even be allowed on the same CONTINENT as Glenn Danzig. Not even after he dies of old age.

I've been rooting round record shops for The Field Mice. Got a few downloaded tracks and a nice old vinyl that crackles but is still in pretty good condition.

Boy there were a fucking good band. I've got 'Sensitive' ("If the sun going down can make me cry, why should I not like the way I am?") on right now.

Then it's 'Emma's House': "You have nothing to live up to, you have nothing to live down. Emma's house is empty, so why do I call it Emma's house?"

Sarah Records had some great bands.

Einstürzende Neubauten - Haus der Lüge(House of Lies)

I like to think that listening to Einstürzende makes me better while writing a german assignment.
To my complete surprise it doesn't. However it does make it more tolerable. Inspite of our teacher being a mess and I never learned the evil grammar properly. I even, dare I say, enjoy it in a weird masochistic way.

Yah.  Hum has been pretty much disbanded since 2000 or so.

I'm still working on the 75-84 mix.  I'm particularly enjoying the closing four-song stretch:

The Soft Boys - Positive Vibrations
Harmonia - Deluxe (Immer Wieder)
Christian Death - Electra Descending
Bernard Szajner - Welcome to Death Row
