John Zorn - The Big Gundown

I think I like his avant garde stuff that still has a tune more than his grindcore esque Naked City sort of stuff at times.

That is amazing.

Star One - Master of Darkness

Apparently, Arjen is doing the next Ayreon album before a Star One follow-up. This would make me sad, but Ayreon itself is pretty badass as well. Besides, I think Russell Allen is tied up with Symphony X at the moment anyway.

They do sound terribly like Edge of Sanity, from that one song.

Current 93 - Crowleymass

"See the little children at Crowleymass
Their faces full of awe
And they don't get no shitty dolls
or trains or stuff like that,
no they get...the book of the law!"

This may actually be the only Current 93 song that rhymes.

I want them to do Great Balls on Fire and Let's Get it On, maybe Frankie Teardrop. What could be really fun is if they did Yü-Gong(Fütter Mein Ego) or Z.N.S.

Simon and Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence

I've created a playlist of Top 40 hits of times past (60's, 70's and loads of 80's basically) to prove definitively that music has entirely gone to shit.

1. Gary Numan - Cars
2. Tears for Fears - Mad World
3. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
4. The Cure - Just Like Heaven
5. Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence
6. Undertones - Teenage kicks
7. The Beatles - A Day in the Life
8. Procul Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
9. Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK
10. Soft Cell - Tainted Love
11. Pink Floyd - Money
12. Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone
13. Human League - Don't You Want me Baby?
14. Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Right Round
15. Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
16. Siouxsie & the Banshees - Spellbound
17. Jeff Wayne - Forever Autumn
18. The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin

Nope. The only two semi-logical criticism I've heard of the wall is that not all the songs hold up particularly well on their own, and that the repetition of musical themes betrays a lack of idea. For the first, It's a goddamn concept album, and for the second, that's like chewing out Pacobel for using the same melody more than once in his Canon.

For the second, I've heard arguments to the effect that since it's rock music, it should be held to a different standard.  I answer with, well what the hell is a fucking 12-bar blues riff then?

Modest Mouse - Ocean Breathes Salty

I can't believe I waited like 3 years to pick up this album.  Well, it was mostly because Isaac Brock is such a douche. But if anyone has hostile feeling against Modest Mouse like I did, seriously, pick up this album. It's pretty darn amazing.

Rush - The Trees

So cheesy.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Israeli expirimental elctronica  band, pretty much genius im my humble opinion, sounds a bit like Ulver's Perdition City.
Too bad they split up after the first album. their bass player is now involved in some noise and EBM projects, and is a great person.
