Amok: Cocteau Twins is dreampop mixed with shoegaze, you might know their singer Elizabeth Fraser from Massive Attack's Teardrop. I am not really an expert on CT but I think it is widely recognised that Treasure and Head over Heels is their best albums. What is so special about Cocteau Twins is the vocals, they are sometimes operatic, nearly always unintelligible and even if you did read lyrics it wouldn't make much sense. Because for most part Fraser seems more interested in sound than actual meaning. She "compensates" for that, much like Cedric from Mars Volta without any other resemblance, by singing with fervour and emotion. That is not to say the music is bad, but her vocals are just so haunting that they sometimes shadow it.

Castanets - The Smallest Bones

and now I am going to bed.

Turns out my housemate had "Treasure". I jacked a copy and loved it, will definitely investigate this band more. Thanks :)

I'm listening to Current 93 "Sleep Has His House" (the 20+ minute track) and it's possibly the most soul-destroyingly depressing thing I've heard in a long time. I also really, really like it.

I still haven't gotten into them, even though tons of people say that Locanda is the best Italian prog band, or perhaps even THE BEST of all prog bands. What do you think of Il Volo's album Essere o non Essere?

Well, Pantera would like to pretend that CfH was their first album. My friend said he saw them at Ozzfest way back when and Phil said "How many of you have been with us since the beginning in '91 with Cowboys from Hell" In his own words from their previous album "Power metal is forever!" Well, apparently not Phil, and I can't blame you.

Also, Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor

I'd like this song even more if Dane's lyrics weren't ridiculously over the top. "Godless Away"? It sounds like you're talking about some sort of atheist superhero. Lame.

Acid Bath - Jezebel

"Broken glass and dirty needles
Soul erosion truth
Electric god
Our superman found dead in a telephone booth

Shards of teeth
Ice pick abortions
Orgasmic death so warm
Lets die screamin'
Black goat semen
I can't hear you whisper "conform"

Hearts will stop and brain cells pop
Apocalyptic high
She screams bloody murder as they chop off her fingers
So this is how it feels to die

But it's ok
Yeah everything's ok

She was screaming about conspiracy
Talkin' about taking sides
I was masturbating, just contemplating
The cold love of suicide"
