Diorama- Odyssey Into The Vacuum

this song is weird, it is kind of how power metal would sound if power metal was synth music

well, this and the Crüxshadows' "Citadel" which is actually one of the most metal songs ever despite not being metal at all

That Jeff Wayne guy sounds awesome. Prog Rock? Awesome. I'll have to go get some.

The Residents - Birth

This album is amazing (Eskimo). I mean, they go off in hiding for a year and a half in Washington or some shit, and make an ambient album about Eskimos to the point of inventing their own language and shit. Seriously.

You've never heard Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds?

Fuck man.

Fuck.

I'd call it prog myself: of the more restrained seventies sort. (restrained as far as wankery goes anyway), orchestra and lots of keyboards though. Some may argue with my definition, but it's DPRP's prog album of 1978, and that really does mean something.

Oh, and Richard fucking Burton as the Journalist. YES!

Xasthur is fucking grim shit. I don't have Nocturnal Poisoning, but I do have Suicide In Dark Serenity, The Funeral of Being and the Nortt/Xasthur split, and based on the praise heaped on Nocturnal Poisoning, you're in for some good shit. If you like depressive BM that is.

I honestly didn't know this was an Isis side project until after I bought it, but I don't think I would've known from listening to it. Which is good- side projects that sound exactly like original bands are kinda lame.

And that's one of my least-favourite songs of hers, I think. Try out World On Fire, Hold On, I Love You, and Black.

Also, if you are the least bit interested in electronica of any kind, you owe it to yourself to grab the BT remixes of Hold On and I Love You. They are amazing. Also, the Rabbit In The Moon Remix of Possession.

The difficulty is that Jeff Wayne's version has irrevocably associated itself in my head with War Of The Worlds, so much so that when I went to see the Spielberg movie, I found myself humming The Artilleryman And The Fighting Machine when Tom Cruise et. al. were staring at the first tripod.

EDIT: omg, Khar, if you haven't heard the Alchemist cover of The Eve Of The War, let me know and I'll find some way to get it to you. It'll make your head explode with awesomeness.

Love that song.  Simply breathtaking.  First time I heard that I could barely believe what I was hearing, wasn't like anything I'd heard in music before.   That alone could have made Abbey Road my favorite Beatles album, but then the rest of it's amazing aswell.

Anyway, I'm listening to I Can Feel It by Sloan.  Not the best Sloan song, but I don't feel like changing it.

I have World On Fire (out of that list), and I'm working on getting more. "Fallen" was the song of hers I heard first, but I think everybody's heard that one. As soon as I get to an fye around here, I'll probably buy one of her albums.
