Now *this* is a snazzy browser, i've been using it since it was a wee thing, It's nice, i just iwhs i had something to contribute to it...but since i can't do that kind of thing..I *Can* link it

It's better than IE than a longshot..so..discuss? But there is a rule: No completely fanatical bashing of IE, Opera, Etc.

My only complaint with it is that it doesn't render flash based pages right, like threadless.com or loyalkaspar.com, so to view those I have to open up Safari.

I've had it eat my bookmarks several times but I get the feeling that was as much my fault most likely.

My major gripe with Firefox is the search function: it appears to only search a page for whole words, rather than fragments of a word. Ordinarily this would be fine, however when it comes to editing my website (which I do 4 times a week) it's a problem, as a "word" (i.e.: a series of letters without a space) is in that context an enormous long string of html. Firefox seems unable, in my limited experience, to search for just a fragment, such as "index.html", which makes it useless for my purposes.

Firefox vs. Explorer

Tabbed browsing is awesome
It's relatively new, so is not as targeted by evil programs & other kinds of geez
Scroll button on the mouse is incorporated into the browsing for a more convenient experience, I guess you could say
For some reason, GMail won't load in MSIE on my home computer[/list:u]Explorer vs. Firefox
- Slightly faster (I thought Firefox was faster til I went back to using MSIE)
- Doesn't block as much of the simple Javascript (this could be good or bad, but it's good for my website in particular
- Cache is stored externally, so it doesn't clear when you upgrade the browser (more of an issue for dial-up folks as myself)[/list:u]This list is by no means comprehensive, but it's all I can come up with at the moment.
  
  I used Firefox ever since it was released back in November '04, but I've recently switched back to MSIE (with the obvious exception for GMail), the main reason being that MSIE is overall the faster browser.

I'm a Firefox user truly just for the tabbing. The downloads seem to be wacked because I sometimes experience "surges" where I would be downloading at 50mb per second. It would gradually lower until it reaches its conventional speed.

In addition, the user that said MSIE was faster, if you sat down and changed your options, you could make FF faster, easily.

I did it on mine.

Same here. I have a custom theme, the weather forecast for the next three days, a PhBB blocker, something called "Nuke ANything" - which allows me to instantly hide anything I like from view - and something called "Firesomething" which randomly changes the name of the program. Right now, I'm using Mozilla Moonhawk, apparently...

Incidentally, there's a 100% chance of rain in my area for the next two days, and tonight is a new moon.

Mozilla is good and is my current web browser but it does have flaws. Mianly the flash thing but the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Everyone who's complaining of the "flash thing", I'm not sure WHICH you mean - that if you download Firefox, it's unbelievably slow loading Flash, or that you can't view certain websites because of it's flash.
Both of these prolems can be fixed. If it's slow, I suggest downloading an older version of Flash, which I did, now it takes no time to load chats, oekakis, whatever.
For the second one, if you were to view a website such as the MapleStory one [the only one I can think of with a problem right now], it would say you need IE. This, however, isn't true. Go to tools and options and disable java and you can use the site just as easily.

Also, yea, it's a LOT faster than IE, lets me tab stuff, and the bookmark eating thing actually happens by Firefox trying to protect you. If your computer gets an error or something, immediatly restart, and you should have all of your bookmarks. If you don't, and it closes and you reopen Firefox an they're gone, it switched to default or another user, and if you can find out how to switch back [I have yet to, but whatever], then al lyour bookmarks will be there.

the flash thing is a problem with the latest version of flash, not FF. I don't kno what they did to mess it up but flash was working fine for me before i upgraded.

About the swtiching thing... when that happens, just kill the process (Ctrl + Alt + Del, Processes, Firefox.exe) and start Firefox again, it will have your bookmarks and configs.

I have both on my home computer because my mother can't access her millitary pages when she needs them I am personally a firefox worshipper but everyone else in my family uses I.E. and AOl.

The IE7 that pops up in the latest Vista build is quite nice. Quite nice indeed. And tis faster then the FF.

Tabbed browsing is basically having multiple browser windows, only they're all in ONE window- you access them by hitting on their tabs. Pic:

So yeah, that's pretty much it. It's awesome, and saves having a bajillion IE windows open.

I don't browse with my window fullscreened so I find it's just neater and it keeps my screen more streamlined. Hell, even my text editor has tabs.

I know what tabbed browsing is. I'm just curious as to how having multiple tabs open is such a great improvement over having multiple windows open. It seems like mainly semantics to me.

You don't have to keep minimizing and maximizing, for one thing. Just click the tab and poof a page that you already loaded.

Although I do use TabMix because the default tab width is way too wide.

But - I click the panels for the various windows (both browser, and other programmes) that appear in the taskbar across the bottom of the screen, and BAM! They're there. Tab, schmab.

Imagine having one window for all your open websites instead of multiple taskbars? What if you have other programs running...

Even IE is hacking tabs into it with the horrible MSN toolbar.

I don't habitually have more than three browser windows open at a time, though, so perhaps for my level of use it just doesn't make that much difference. In any case, I'm usually flicking between two windows, in which case the keyboard command "Alt-Tab" does the trick nicely.

I tend to have at least five sites open (I'll open all the new threads in a category of forums in news tabs for instance) and about four other windows up. So I like to have the taskbar at the bottom open for apps, and the tab bar in firefox for webpages. I can see how it wouldn't really benefit you that much though.

Ctrl+Tab lets you change between tabs in FF... and you don't have to go through multiple programs to do so.

I use IE for one thing, and one thing only... the off chance that I need to login to my university email account and am not at my own computer. The interface uses Active X and only works in IE. Bastages.

Vista incorporates parts of NGSCB and as such sucks.

I wonder why nobody has mentioned Opera yet. I use Firefox, but only for quick browsing, my Opera starts up rather slow, but that's thanks to my configuration: I find Opera a lot more usable when you have more than 35 startup pages. Which I do.

You can do the same in FF by having multiple tabs open and then using the current page to make your home.
