anyone here as excited as i am that Knife of Dreams is finally out!!!

est:
yeah, but not so excited about the reviews coming in saying it's only marginally better than the last few extremely boring books in the series.

Vlishgnath:
I suppose I just enjoy his books because they're one massive epic, not self contained mini adventures.  Yeah, nothing groundbreaking happened in the last book, and it was real slow, but I still liked it.  If I recall, there were only two major real plots intead of the standard 4-6.  According to Jordan at his panel at San Diego, the previous book was purposefully slow, 'Knife' would ramp up a bit, and the final book would be armageddon.

RE:  book reviews

Gimme a break.  About 70% of the time I can count on the general media abhoration of something to mean it's at the very least worth checking out.

bjcamp95:
true you cant believe those reviews and i know its been slow.. i really need to get some closure on perrin extra he is deffinitly my favorite. AND.. the whole epic is great!

est:
sorry, when i said "reviews" i meant amateur ones by fans of the books.  in addition, i read some statement from RJ, and now i regret it.  he wrote a bit about how people just don't understand what kind of a fix the Good Guys are in, and how successful the Bad Guys have been to date, and how bad things are looking for the good guys.

my immediate reaction was something like "so you are admitting then that you have done a really bad job in setting the scene as you see it?".  i have trouble thinking that anything bad is going to happen in Randland, ever.  perhaps this is because after ten goddamn books no-one important & good ever dies in a permanent way, and because evil's grand schemes are always undone just in time when Rand et al bumble onto the scene and magically pull a victory out of their ass.

by contrast, i've been reading George R R Martin's Song of Ice & Fire series lately.  people die all the time.  main characters that you love die, because that is what happens when bad shit goes down: people die.  maybe it's spoiled my ideas of what fantasy should be or something, maybe i just like the darker works now :(

but anyways, i am being too negative.  perhaps others who are still enjoying the series will like this one, also.
