Seriously, there was nothing wrong with this thread until some tards started with that "owned" bollocks. It wasnt funny even when it was new.

Switchblade, the point of this thread wasn't even to bash Coldplay or their msuic. It was to draw attention to how bloody pretentious their new marketing scheme is. Their music doesn't even have anything to do with it, hell I enjoy a few Coldplay songs, but I still agree that with that much fame and money and millions of adoring fans, saying that they have to generate a certain amount of hits before they will tell their fans where they are even going to play is still a really jerkish thing to do. The quality of the music doesn't have anything to do with it.

I agree. They're already famous and rich, why the hell do they need to do something like this?

Others, however, seem to feel that we can't HAVE a thread on Coldplay in any form without it's degenerating into an almost-war between the "Likes Coldplay" and "Really Hates Coldplay" camps.

I like a lot of the people around here, and I'd really rather avoid a whole issue entirely than have to wrestle with the impulse to think of them badly over a difference of opinion.

Besides, you can't deny that pretty much ever Coldplay thread we've ever had got pretty retarded at some point or another. Maybe a blanket lock policy's a bit extreme, but we should probably tone down the whole "OMG CODPALY SUXX0RZ!!!!1" - "STFU N00Bz0R!1!!" thing and try to keep it civil.

EDIT: and since when were Coldplay supposed to be rockers?

Okay, I do agree with you on that. This thread started out with the intention of "hey you guys, this is kind of a jerk thing for them to do right" and too many people saw it as an opportunity to just mindlessly bash Coldplay whil actually ignoring what the thread was supposed to be about. That part I agree is disrespectful, and.. doesn't really.. make sense. You would think after like 536724513 million threads on the subject of how much coldplay apparantly suck, everyone's hate would just die down on its own, but I guess not...? The fact that someone can hate them THAT much actually kind of scares me. Yeah okay they're pretentious, yeah okay maybe to some people their music really sucks, but that's about it. It is not like they ever murdered anyone or something. The Coldplay-hating is seriously getting ridiculous.

Also, the owned thing WAS funny, or else no one else would have joined in. Trying to derail the argument and point the blame at completely random other people for no reason is a lame way to resolve things.

If there wasn't a Coldplay, there'd just be another band occupying exactly the same position in the music world as they do. They would be completely interchangeable with Coldplay, and everyone here would hate them exactly as much.
