I am not that keen on starting an "I hate Coldplay" thread, but seriously, most annoying way to announce a tour http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/05-11/09.shtml" target="_fresh">EVER.

Seriously.

Fuck em. Fuck em all with a big spintered stick. I blame coldplay for killing britrock. Before coldplay, you could turn on the radio and hear a listenable rock song. After coldplay, there was nothing but idiotic wimpy passionless worthless moaning gits strumming away halfheartedly at guitars and whining about how difficult life is, despite a big fat record contract.

You could set a fucking tax form to music, and it would be more inspiring and meaningful than goddamn coldplay.

Wow...I actually don't hate Coldplay entirely, and I think this is easily the worst idea in the history of thinking.  What happened, did they decide that giving out a tour date everytime a fan fellated Chris Martin was too easy?

I'm going to start a piano rock band. We're only going to have one tinkly piano riff, and all our songs will be ridiculous, metaphoric drivel about just how hard it is to be a middle class art student nowadays. We're going to be very, very, very rich.

What's so awful about this? They're obviously going to announce them all before tickets go on sale, and if they don't Ticketmaster will. Until then, they're just encouraging people to tell their friends about their band and go to their site. I mean, sure, it's a little annoying, but considering how many have already flocked to the site, it's not like it'ds going to take that long, so it's not that obnoxious. It's a way for Coldplay's name to spread around the internet one more time, even if sometimes negatively. I mean, it got them a pitchfork news post, and it'll either get another, or an updated one, when all the dates are out. That's more than the usual press, no?

Or maybe I just don't care because I don't care about seeing Coldplay live. Come to think of it, from such seeming Coldplay-haters, you all sure do want to know when these tour dates are.

if i was as popular as coldplay, i would probably be just as pretentious, if not more so.

"for every 33,000 women that send us naked pictures of themselves, we will announce another tour date."

"for every 33,000 people that kill themselves wearing a coldplay tshirt, we will announce another tour date"

i'm not condoning them, because i like them. it's been the "cool" thing to hate coldplay for a long time now. the backlash against the backlash has sorta, um, arrived.

some stuffs

i think it annoys this crowd becasue shameless self-promoting, when concerned with successful bands, is looked down upon. at least i look down on it. they're huge. they have a massive fan base. they really don't need to pull this kind of self-gratifying stunt to get people to know them or take notice of a tour. they're doing something so obvously commercial with something that's not supposed to act this way. they're not promoting a fast food joint, this is fucking music. music isn't supposed to operate the same way as all other coporate endevors. this particular action happens to be so blatently commercial that it opens it's self as a target and symbol for what is wrong with the music industry. it makes me want to shove credit cards through thier eyes. fuck coldplay.

also, their music sucks big floppy donkey dick.

It is pretentious, but seriously guys... you think they're in charge of every marketing move that is made on their behalf?  You don't know much about record labels and general promotion, if you honestly believe that.

"Hating" them for their music is strong, and downright immature, you bandwagon-jumpers.  Disliking their music is fine.  Disliking comments they may have made from time-to-time, and thinking them asshats for saying these things, is fine too.  Hate is too strong, and hating for reasons of marketing/public relations... it's downright ignorant.

i don't hate the members of the band personally. i hate the public entity that the band is. that consists of the music, the member's public image, thier marketing strategies/moves and everything else that comes from that band. i don't care if it was thier idea or not, it's their band i hate because it is their band's crew what's doing it.
i don't think hate is too strong becasue this serves as a very poignant symbol for everything i hate about the music industry.

hating them for thier music is not immature and i think that's a pretty inflammatory thing to say. i don't think nayone here would honestly put fist to one of thier faces were we to meet them in person, but to the entity that we call coldplay, i would like so sodomize it with a rusty spoon. not that i'd do this to any of the guys in it, but saying it sounds wierd and it is comprised of people so we say "they" or "them."

Quote from: sideways

hate is a personal thing. it's not your place to say what's aappropriate for others to feel, or how they may use the word hate.
in what way is that ignorant? what makes you think that this hate is uninformed? there's no way you could know how much any of us know about coldplay or thier mareting strategies. you assume that becasue we hate thier marketing practices or thier music that we are uninformed? That, sir, is ignorant.

I know this is a thread derailment, but I'm siding with Sideways here. This really does smack more of the whole "OMGWTFLOLBBQ Coldplay did something pretentious, let's all say how much they suxx0r!" bandwagon. Only without the 12-year-old AOL-er speak.

So they're now connected to a marketing strategy and attention-getting technique that you find distasteful. Okay, even I'm mildly surprised and irritated that they seem to think they have to stand further above the parapets, or would actually put something that selve-serving into action, but the sheer extent of the reaction I'm witnessing here seems out of proportion to the incident itself.

So you don't like what they've done? Feel they're a bit too big for themselves? Like to shoot them down every chance you get? Well, who said you had to give a fuck in the first place? Nobody's forcing you to listen to them, nobody's tying you down and playing "Trouble" at you 24/7 for a month, please don't subject those of us who actually like them to the constant stream of vitriol. In short, if you don't like them, why not stop talking about them and discuss somebody else?

And, so as to heed my own advice, I am now getting out of the kitchen. It's too hot for me in here.

Damned right. To me, coldplay represent the death of british pop music. They are the walking stereotype of everything that was wrong with radio rock in the early 00s. They are like U2, but with even less talent and even less variation.

Luckily, things are looking up. The killers were a ray of fucking sunshine compared with coldplay and their low fat sugar free decaff "rock", and i have high hopes for the artic monkeys.

Man, Im sorry to pick on you, but your post is an exaple of what I'm seeing here. The description of this thing says "no hipster snobs", but do some of you people have to be so pretentious as to drill people for merely expressing their hatred or dislike for a band or what have you? Come on, no one but the force fed idiot teens of the western world 'like' the Killers, thet're a new fad to make some money off and then ditch like heaps of other train wreck bands. Some of you, by the sheer luck that the wave lengths of the bands tunes have an affirmative match with your brain patternts may like them, fair enought. I still hate them, and bands like them, for turning my little sister and her generation into a premature skank and fashion whore. Very same situation as bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.  I stand by my opinion that you can learn a lot from SOME bands by looking at their label and popularity, and if any of you want to start an argument on that, be my guest, but please...

JUST BE HONEST! Its all good, and less pretentious.

Honest and pretentious are one and the same when you're DK.

I find the Killers average, but inoffensive. They have about four good tunes - ditto Kaiser Chiefs.
I wouldn't buy the albums, but they have some nice songs. Why hate?

As for Coldplay - the last album was dire, but I still love it.
