Oh, I listen to the Postal Service, but yeah... it's a bit too far from house/techno.
I like freezepop, but i have a feeling it would probably make him punch things :-P i was actually listening to Sprite yesterdy and thinking to myself "you know, I bet if Michele heard this he would really hate it, and probably hate me for liking it". xD
Thanks for all your other suggestions, though, I'll check them out asap!

Wideband Network - Universe
ok so it's more like synthpop with acoustic bits in, but seriously, check out the song "The Silence" if you don't believe me. he needs to hear this stuff.
in a similar vein, Apoptygma Berzerk have gone all acoustic/mainstream-indie with their latest album ("You And Me Against The World") so maybe grab him a copy of that too
also Röyksopp cannot be stressed or repeated enough. their new album is a work of sheer awesome.
JLM:
Lassique Bendthaus
Charles Webster
Denver McCarthy
Chris J
Aril Brikha
Mr. Velcro Fastener
Erlend Oye's solo stuff (mostly electronic)
Tosca has a new remix album out
Fischerspooner
Abe Duque
Fred Everything
The Juan Maclean
Mr. Scruff
John Tejada
Dennis DeSantis
DNTel
to name a few
Please note that a lot of these, while technically falling in the "indie" category, aren't really considered "indie" electronic. Indie electronic is hard to really describe. My suggestion in terms of that would be to direct your friend to Morr Music, since most of their catalog is pretty much, in my mind, the definition of electronic that seems to be popular in indie circles (outside of DFA Records, The Chemical Brothers and things like Venetian Snares for some reason). Still, most of the artists above are on independent labels.
