live disappointments

surefunk:
so, there was some fiery furnaces talk in another thread and i was reminded of how i saw them play last year and it was, well, pretty much just bad.  i love the band, but the show was a total disappointment.  it was like an hour long medley of the least interesting parts of the songs on blueberry boat.  hard to get into, hard to follow, just a lame show.  so, perhaps as a heads up to others (or to get myself throttled for blaspheming fiery furnaces), how about a "these bands suck live" discourse?
other nominee: david gray.  sorta liked him, saw him when he toured on white ladder.  one of the worst performers i've ever seen.  totally soured me on him.

Der Golem:
Iron Maiden takes the cake. I mean fuck, I saw them last year, on the Old Days tour, and that show was so dissapointing. Not that they were really bad, but they did in no way live up to expectations. I mean I've seen local shows where less than 30 people show up that were better.

rive gauche:
The Hold Steady.

Spitty, annoying singer who basically just talks really loudly + obnoxiously loud keys + generally bad music = the worst live band I've ever seen.

surefunk:
see?  it's working already.  here i was, thinking that the hold steady, riding high on all the "best bar band ever" hyperbole, must give a sweet show.  now i know it's just spitty annoyance.  thank you.

See, that's funny, because my friend has seen Iron Maiden twice and he ranks them among the best shows he's ever seen.
