This OSX virus works on the honor system.

Please delete random files on your hard disk, then forward this message to everyone you know. Thank you for your cooperation.

Problem is, everytime we here about a virus threat for the mac it has turned out to be Symantec talking things up to try and increase sales.

That'll be one that infects five people. I know, we set the bar pretty high.

My friend claims that Word viruses -- in macros and the like -- can be a problem. I don't use any Microsoft products, so I wouldn't know.

What do Word viruses do anyway?  Do they just like mess up your documents or something?  That would be pretty redundant.

The macro engine for excel basically is visual basic and some more. I think that a macro virus would be able to do anything you can fix vb to do.

Word macro viruses can do cool things like put random passwords on all of your documents.  Basicaly to prevent them all you have to do is say no when word asks if you want to enable macro's.  Apparently it asks you when documents have there own set of macros.

One thing about all of the "viruses" that people where talking about on the mac rummor's page is they where really just programs that do bad things to your computer.  None of them had any way of actually spreading besides some one sending you a file and saying hey open this.  Then laughing when it messes up your computer.  Using somthing as basic as autmator you could write a program to delete every document on some ones computer or open every document or any number of bad things.  However there is no easy way of spreading it.
