Thank You Jeph

First off, I don't know if this has been posted before, and I don't care if it has.

Jeph thank you for getting me into indie rock. Before QC I only listened to Zeppelin, Floyd, The Beatles, the Who ect, and I still do, but opened my eyes to world filled with The Decemberists, Broken Social Scene, The Futureheads, and as of today, Sufjan Stevens.

Because of you, I no longer only eat chocolate.

I know what you mean. It's like now instead of chocolate, there's chocolate AND candy.
Thank you Jeph.

But The Beatles and The Who and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are all better bands than The Decemberists, Broken Social Scene, The Futureheads, or Sufjan Stevens.

Though the chocolate-to-candy analogy is actually perfect.

If it weren't for QC, I probably would have never gotten into either Iron & Wine, The Decemberists or Dungen, all three of whom I now adore.

Shining aren't half bad, either.

Jeph got me into Modest Mouse, Pavement, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Broken Social Scene, The Fiery Furnaces, and a crapload more. He's pretty much responsible for getting me interested in music.

So thank you Jeph. I was a poor, stupid nu-metal kid before QC, so you basically changed my life.

I agree, they are better, and I still listen to them more, only now it's not exclusive. I broadened my tastes, and I owe that to Jeph.

I try not to have any exclusivity in my music tastes. It's about what music I like, not what others think.

Just check out the women I posted in the hot chick thread. Only one of those girls could probably get any respect from people on this board, but nobody's even heard of her.

Exactly.  Thanks to QC I actualy started listening to "indie" which then led to all sorts of different directions.  It's not entirely due to Jeph and QC, but it defeinatly helped me to realize there was more out there than just what my friends and schoolmates listen to.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

I totally don't want to get a "Floyd VS BSS" arguement (Or others like it) going here. It's personal taste, I like them both, but if I had to chose one type, it'd be the older rock.

This post wasn't made saying I'm into new music exclusivly, I don't get people that suject themselves to a genre. I listen to what I like to listen to (Yes, that includes Country, but I'm from Calgary so I can't be blamed) and I think everyone should just do the same.

P.S I mean real country, none of that "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" bullshit.

I've been reading QC for a really long time, over two years now (that's not a "my cred-wang in bigger than yours" comment, just stating a fact) so I was around before Jeph had his recommended listening page. However, I remember reading his weekly comment when I was still in high school and seeing Mogwai.  They've been one of my favourite groups for like 2 years now.

His name-drops of McLusky, American Analog Set and the Album Leaf got me to check them out and start lovin' em to an insane degree.

Thanks Jeph, much love.

SO TRUE

off-topic story. A girl I know listens to mogwai. I got Mr. Beast a couple of months ago, and burned it for her. She calls her boyfriend, who is also an indie snob and who SHE introduced to mogwai, and says "hey, my friend here just got me the new mogwai album that leaked!". He says, yeah, I have it, isn't track 4 good?"

Needless to say, he didn't get any that night.

TLDR; mogwai is excellent and now they are loud again yay.

Tell you the truth, I started to read QC because of Marten's Mogwai poster, and because tey talked about them alot in the first strips. And then I realized that QC is a brilliant comic.
And so are Mogwai.

AH! She made a monster. Seriously, we don't need more of us walking around. I personally think indie snobs are depleting the ozone layer somehow...now if only I could figure out how snobbery breaks O-O bonds....
