Aparently these things are a specifically British concept but I'm reluctant to belive that no-one in the states camps and listens to good music at the same time.

I'm thinking of going to Cropredy this year, what festivals are y'all going to?

These things are indeed not a strictly British concept.  Us Americans have a number of spring and summer festivals, including Coachella, Bumbershoot, (edit) South by Southwest, the fairly new Pitchfork/Intonation Music Festival, and many others.  I'm still sitting the fence on Coachella.  It's pretty much Daft Punk attracting me, and if I can see them closer to home, I'll do that instead.

The Japanese have a few choice large summer festivals as well, though I'm not such a fan of their line-ups this year: Summer Sonic is held at the Osaka WTC and Chiba Marine Stadium every year with lineups for each day alternating between the two sites.  Daft Punk is playing here as well.  I've only been to the Osaka site and it's great weather.  There's also the Fuji Rock festival held in northern Japan, which seems to be playing host to Killing Joke this year.  Now that'd be fun.

I'm going to go to the Pitchfork Media Music Festival, (link above). I went to Intonation Fest last year, had a blast. Of course, living only 15 minutes away from the festival site is pretty nice. Best acts last year were the Wrens and the Decemberists. Looking forward to TL+Rx this year.

Since all the major Brit festivals this summer have gone for the same Horribly Overpriced / Shitty Mainstream Line-up / Sponsored By Fucking Carling combo-breaker of suck, I'll be heading over to Germany and attending M'era Luna. For 65 euros. Hooray!

Actually, the concept definitely originated in the USA.  We just got jaded from the massive amount of them in the late 60's and early 70's.  The touring festival also originated in the States, which are more prevalent these days.

Anyways, I am going to be really busy all summer, but I'm waiting for my friends to tell me of any festivals that would be worth going for me.  I'm also not sure where I'll be over the summer, and that sort of thing is important.

There are still plenty of genuinely indie festivals, check out e-festivals, there are clearly too many to all be sponsered by Carling. :p

Umm in terms of Summer Festivals in the US, Bonnaroo Looks AMAZING this year. A good amount of hippy shit, sure, but there are also some amazing indie bands, including Radiohead and Beck, part of the Grateful Dead, Steel Train, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and many more.

I'm gonna be there this summer if anyone wants to hang out. The ticket prices include camping, and it's a three day festival. It's better than Coachella, because it won't be insanely hot the whole time, and will probably have more drugs.

I'd totally LOVE to go to Bonnaroo; fucking DeVotchKa are playing, amongst a bunch of other artists I'd love to see. Too bad I'm too broke to go on a road trip. I was gonna go to wakarusa, but the lineup just isn't as impressive as I'd like to drop the cash for it. Last year's lineup was pretty damn nice though.

There's one stage that's indoors (well, it's in a fucking several-thousand capacity aircraft hangar) so they could play that one and escape on a technicality :D

Despite my aspirations to go to Reading this year, I am far too skint and would probably not be allowed anyway. It seems the nearest thing to a festival I'll be going to this year is the Crawley Circus Convention. Hmmm... >_>

I know someone who is declining to go to Cropredy with me because of Crawley. His defence is that Crawley is cheaper and that you can say things like "can I play with your balls" every five minutes, I don't see how this beats three days of awesome Folk-Rock.
Damn juggling types with thier stilts, thinking they're so big when they're only elevated by a couple of feet.

Gigantour 2 will be sometime this summer, but the bands haven't been announced yet. Obviously Megadeth will be there, but supposedly Mustaine is negotiating with Overkill and Anthrax, which would be badass, as they're both East Coast bands, and thus don't come out to California much. Other rumored bands are Death Angel (one of my least favorite Bay Area thrash bands, so this gets a 'meh' from me), and the reunited Judas Priest. Obviously, the latter would be great, but it's totally unsubstantiated at this point, whereas Mustaine's invitation to Anthrax and Overkill's negotiations are true.

I'll be there. In 20 years I want to be one of those wierd old guys whose been to every Glastonbury ever, excpet with Glade instead, obviously.

I'm heading off to denmarks biggest festival Roskilde Festivalen, but i'm a little dissapointed by the line-up so far. There is Bob Dylan, Sigur Ros, Guns n' Roses, Animal Collective and Morrisey that might be fun, but the rest are smaller scandinavian bands.

Should be good fun hanging around and meeting drunk swedes though.

Ooh. I completely forgot! I'm going to Jazz a Juan this year in Antibe. I'm not sure how much it counts considering it's all jazz. Meh. Should be fun. Looking forward to seeing Keith Jarret in particular.

That's pretty cool, I used to be pretty into Jazz until I figured that it's be healthy to have at least slightly different music tastes to my father.
Apparently Crawley is pretty awesome, if I had any talent to speak of then I'd be there I guess.
