Introducing the musically damned to good music (Help!)

Houdinimachine,

Whats wrong with Pavement? I'm not saying I disagree I just find a lot of Pavement quite accessable and was planning to include some.

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far guys. I'm trying to put together a mix tape which I will share (along with what my friend thinks, which will probably be, "omg u suck")

I need to find myself some Skyclad though. Not carried at any local record stores I've looked at.

And re: everyone who thinks I'm elitist/an ass/whatever for trying to introduce my friend to some new music:

Shut up. This is my best friend, we're assholes to each other. We spend a lot of time together much of which includeds listening to music. He mocks my taste. The rhetoric about him "being too far gone" was obviously a joke. Its fucking music, k?

Kai:
Skyclad are a bitch to find; I myself could only find them by pirating. I don't know why. Shittastical distribution deal, I guess. I think someone mentioned they're on iTUnes, which is pretty fancy. If you get just one, get Prince of the Poverty Line. It wins.

Our opinions are right, and his are wrong.  Is it really that hard a concept?  Plus, you should totally find some insane prog, you should definitely "put on the most technically difficult song, and skip directly to the solo part" as outlined here on rule 6.

Find some way to listen to Time Requiem - Brutal Metal.  The title of the song is misleading, but it's pretty much the best song I've ever heard to apply to that rule.  This is because the entire song is an instrumental solo wankfest that will either leave his/her ears bleeding from getting sandblasted by so much raw progness, or will convert him forever.

Also, jcknbl, my musical tastes disagree with yours.  Therefore, as per the rules of musical taste, I must try to convert you to listen to what I listen to.

So, go out and buy immediately:
Therion - Vovin
Nightwish - Oceanborn
Finntroll - Nattfodd
Heavenly - Dust to Dust
Celesty - Legacy of Hate
The Old Dead Tree - The Perpetual Motion
Divercia - Cycle of Zero

Got it?  Mkay, good.

I wholeheartedly agree with this man/woman/person.

Man.

And their CD's are easy to find here, in the Netherlands ... plus... on line buying?
