Introducing the musically damned to good music (Help!)

--- Quote from: KharBevNor ---I think he probably makes up a different reason each interview. Still one of my musical heroes though.

I mean...they already had a distribution deal with Nuclear Blast for Folkemon,  I find it hard to see how you really could get better than that...It's not like any major would likely touch Skyclad with a barge-pole.
--- End quote ---

It would be hard to accept Skyclad with a major label looking over their (awesome) lyrics.

KharBevNor:
Damn right we are. SKYCLAD SKYCLAD SKYCLAD.

Indeed, I think I'll just put on a spot of the 'clad right now.

"Slaves to the only God they know
Drawn by the song of the cosmic diva
The Lord of the Flies is a dandy beau
King of the hill in the new Bohemia
Where does he come from their redeemer?
Where does he go? They never learn.
What is the price for the true believer
A quickening death in the womb of the worm. "

I think a good part of the genius of Martin's lyrics is that he understands the use of ALL lyrical poetic devices. So many people just rhyme ABAB or AABB. He cracks out the alliteration and the internal rhymes and the irregular rhyming schemes and crazy meters and goodness knows what. Absolute brilliance.

@BeoPuppy: Yeah, Penny Dreadful is about as embarrasing a song you could have in your catalogue on a major as you can get. Almost as bad as 'Sucks' by KMFDM (Wouldn't sell to a major for a couple of bucks, no doubt about it KMFDM Sucks!).

BeoPuppy:
Oops.

Lyric fuck up ...

"Slaves to the only God they know
Drawn by the song of the cosmic diva
The Lord of the Flies is a dandy beau
King of the hill in the new Bohemia
Where does he come from their redeemer?
Where does he go? They never learn.
What is the price for the true believer
Rotting away in the womb of the worm.

Death is the hand of a handsome stranger.
He speaks, heads turn.
Babes unaware of impending danger,
Quickening death in the womb of the worm."

I'm SUCH a fanboy.

KharBevNor:
I can never get all the different types of death in the womb right!

Aaaand now...THE most motormouthed song I've ever heard, 'Skyclad' itself. How the hell can he get his pronunciation so good?

"And whatever life may hand me I'll accept it with good grace;
For I'm just a simple lad with few ideas about my station,
So ale and song will apt suffice to keep me in my place.
How can you know the cost of everything yet never see its worth?
If you think because you've paid the piper you should call the tune:
Well think again my friend life is a game of chance.
By Fate's command we win or lose,
But still retain the right to choose
If we should stumble on, or shed our cares and DANCE!"

One of my fucking favourite segments of lyrics ever. And it looks like the next song is 'Something to Cling To', which means so much to me that if I'm drunk I cry when I listen to it.

Haha! Well I'm pretty sure you have no idea what my musical taste because its quite varied and I havn't really listed bands I like on this thread, I just listed some bands I hate and bands I don't mind.

On the other hand you're probably right. (I'm pretty sure the Heavenly you mentioned isn't the twee pop band :-) ) But I'm not making my friend buy shit, just giving him some stuff to listen to. Ergo, I'm not buying any of that but if you'd make me a mix I'd definitely listen to it enthusiastically and you might very well convert me with one or two bands.

So as soon as you want to send that to me...:-)
