Introducing the musically damned to good music (Help!)

--- Quote from: KharBevNor ---It's the crowning irony that Skyclad are actually HUGE in Europe (only Metallica outsells them in the metal category in Greece) but totally unknown in the UK. Especially as their songs make constant use of British slang and other references and tend to be about things like Thatcherism, London, Merry England and what rotters the French are (though I suppose most Europeans can get behind that one).

Yeah, they do okay here. Meanwhile Martin felt he had to leave the band because he wasn't getting enough money out of it to live on.
People should buy more music.

Now that's just silly, I've never made enough money to live on with music (well no that's not true but those weren't very good times for me), yet I still play in bands. Come on you crazy metal heads.
KharBevNor:

Actually, Martin DID make enough money to live on with music, when I think about it. Well, barely at least. You can tell because after about 1995 every song stops being about how fucking poor he is. :p There's all sorts of delightful stories of him and Graeme English surviving for a month on nothing but cold baked bean sandwiches and at one point getting to the stage where their only liquid assets were 19 pence in their electricity meter. In fact, not selling out despite really having to scrape along at the bottom is one of the reasons I love Skyclad. Of every band I can think of, they have ABSOLUTE integrity.

Delightful, I'm sure ...
I read somewhere that he quit the band in desperation after they did not want to go in search of a new distribution deal which would be more profitable.
And something with christmas, his kid and lack of presents.
Sad thing, really.
Are we slowly drifting off-topic a tad, by the way?
KharBevNor:
I think he probably makes up a different reason each interview. Still one of my musical heroes though.
I mean...they already had a distribution deal with Nuclear Blast for Folkemon, I find it hard to see how you really could get better than that...It's not like any major would likely touch Skyclad with a barge-pole.
Kai:
Shh! Don't bring attention to that! We're talking about Skyclad right now.
