GRAD SONGS WHAUGHUAHGH

<< < (3/16) > >>

Bastardous Bassist:
I'm not even sure I had a graduation song.  Maybe if I looked at the video yearbook (which has my high school band's worst gig ever on it) then I'd know what it was.  Nope, still not enough justification to make me watch it.  Anyways, I'd go with Alice Cooper's "School's Out."  Yes, it's overplayed, but I don't hear it much, because I pretty much only listen to my music, and I don't even have that song.  That's why it'd be my choice.

--- Quote from: c1utch ---Seems like there are better Postal Service songs (Nothing Better maybe?) and Oasis songs (Don't Look Back In Anger maybe?)   to represent that sentiment.  Damien Rice, well no, thats a love song.
--- End quote ---

"Nothing Better" is like a love/breakup song. The most appropriate Postal Service song for a graduation would have to be "Such Great Heights." As for Oasis... no. Dunno about Damien Rice.

Okay, how about loud, memorable indie rock anthems? I'm thinking stuff like The Arcade Fire's "Wake Up," Broken Social Scene's "Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)," and Wolf Parade's "I'll Believe in Anything." Though if I had my way, we'd play Ratatat's "Seventeen Years" at our graduation. That would be totally inappropriate yet awesome.

Joseph:

--- Quote from: Johnny C ---I think Springsteen and Garfunkel are good suggestions.

Springsteen and Garfunkel.  They should totaly do an album together, t'would be all sorts of great.  Anyway, I'll look for some specific songs, but I'll do that in the morning.  Right now, I'm on the tired side since my caffeine is wearing off, so I need bed (well, after running through the second disk of The River and reading for a bit anyway).

Cerulaetas:

--- Quote from: Dark Flame ---I love how 2 out of the 5 replies refered to Good Ridance by the wrong name...  It always makes me smile when people think it's a happy type song.  Way to be music snobs!
--- End quote ---

Wait, what?  How does that make me a music snob?  More to the point, so what if I don't know the name to the song, it's not a song I particularly like.

So: way to be, generalizer!  Glad to know we've got some intelligence on these boards.  Now that that's done, can we agree not to flame each other again?

Back on topic, personally, I feel like I'd have to go and punch everyone in my graduating class in the face if an indie song was nominated.  More because it seemed like there was a lot of very annoying snobbery flying around than any dislike of the music.

Pavement - Filmore Jive

I have no real reasons why, the song kicks ass though.

I REALLY hope I spelled that right....
