After listening to my Ipod for about an hour or so on shuffle, I came across Frank Zappa's "Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?", and it got to the point in the song when Frank bellows out, "My balls feel like a pair of moroccas!", and it was at that point that I realized that this incredibally candid line was my all time favorite line in a song. So, I was interested to know what all of you guys' favorite line in a song is.

I'm an Asshole. ~Dennis Leary
Know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac El Dorado
Convertible, hot pink, with whaleskin hubcaps and all-leather cow
interior and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights... yeah! And I'm
gonna drive around in that baby at 115 miles per hour, getting 1 mile
per gallon, suckin' down quarter pound cheeseburgers from McDonald's
in the old-fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers and when
I'm done suckin' down those greaseball burgers I'm gonna wipe my mouth
on the American Flag and then I'm gonna toss the styrofoam containers
right out the side, and there ain't a goddamn thing anybody can
do about it. You know why? Because we got the bombs, that's why Two
words: Nuclear fuckin' weapons, OK? Russia, Germany, Romania, they
can have all the democracy they want...they can have a big democracy
cakewalk right through the middle of Tienamen Square and it won't make
a lick of difference, because we got the bombs, OK? John Wayne's not
dead, he's frozen! And as soon as we find a cure for cancer, we're
gonna thaw out the Duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off. You know
why? Have you ever taken a cold shower? Well, multiply that by 15
million times, that's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be.
I'm gonna get the Duke and John Casavetti and Lee Marvin
and Sam Peckinpaw
and a case of whisky
and drive to Texas...(HEY, HEY HEY!>

Tism - (There's gonna be) Sex tonite
There at the protest about Womens rights,
She slagged Helen Garner, he said "You're right"
He shook his dreadlocks and condemned Wayne Carey
She offered him tofu; both were quite hairy -
There's gonna be sex tonight
Interval at the theatre - they both hit it off
Discussing the meaning of Anton Chekhov;
The director they hated, the actress? - they panned her;
What they acted out later weren't exactly Uncle Vania
On the deck of the boat she pointed out east
Said "A whale is in fact an air breathing beast"
He really liked nature; he was out of the slammer
He had a gram of cocaine and a video camera
He was knocking on doors; she was watchin' television
He said "Money for the kids? I'm collecting for World Vision"
Her heart was full of pity for a world full of grief
He donated to a charity she called Hand Relief
---
Also, I really like the lyrics in the chorus of Channels - Chivaree for some reason. I can't get them out of my head.
"Drum on the clocks, and strum on the wires, unlock the box that cages desire"
-
On a slightly more serious notes some lyrics I like:
From Darkthrone's "Natassja in Eternal Sleep"
You live in me, like you moved in with my soul.
One of the only Black Metal love songs to have ever been written. I think that line I quoted in particular is a really good summary of what it means to be in love with someone.
And just becomes I'm a Tolkein geek and i really love the imagery these lyrics conjure up I'll also put down Summoning's " Khazad-d?m":
From ashes and fire be broken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless shall again be king
The world is grey, the mountains old
The forge's fire is ashen and cold
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls
The shadow lies upon his tomb
But still the sunken stars appeal
In the dark and windless Mirrormere
There lies his crown in water deep
'Til Durin wakes again from sleep
A deadly sword, a healing hand
A trumpet - voice, a burning hand
A lord of Wisdom...
Fire and shadow - both defied
In Khazad-d?m his wisdom died
In joy thou hast lived
If thou hearest the cry
of the Gull on the shore
Thy soul shall then rest
in the forest no more...
-
Godsmack - Voodoo
"I'm not the one who's so far away,
When I feel the snakebite enter my veins.
Never did I wanna be here again,
And I don't remember why I came."
It's just a great song with a badass beat. If you've ever seen these guys in concert, they are teh bomb!
-
I would paste the whole album here if I could, but Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd...
Brain Damage:
The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in the hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You rearrange me ' till I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
I sometimes wish that this album wouldn't end, it's so great. I have this on and The Wall on vinyl...tis fab.

I've always liked Place Position by Fugazi
all origins are accidental
you've got no papers and no
roads lead home anymore
chance is the root of all
place position all maps are
random all scales are wrong
legal - illegal -
no passion for the difference
legal - illegal -
false premise forge the nation
may all your borders be porous
free transmission
smear genetics c est la vie
yawn yawn yawn
I can't stifle my boredom
so why not act your age
fear of contagion
the violence of a
fence builder's dream that
makes the phrasing of
"all the pleasures of home"
legal illegal -
I want to go home
-
The mirror's telling half-truths
These stolen words finally feel like mine
Swollen and sweating (sweating), offtime (offtime)
I can see it in your eyes
An ocean floods my heart
I'm sorry that I let you down
You know just how I feel tonight
This is everything I wanted, you've been searching for yourself
In other peoples' eyes
Lawrence Arms - "The Revisionist". I've always connected with that song for one reason or another.
-
I'm a huge fan of Jake Bannon from Converge's lyrics. Lately, one of my favorite lines has been from No Heroes; "in my world of enemies I walk alone"
-
It's normally tricky for me to pin down something like this to my favourite lyric, but I think I can absolutely say that it's something by Nick Cave.
In fact, I think I can absolutely say it's this post-breakup smackdown by Nick Cave from the song 'Far From Me':
'It's good to hear you're doing so well
But can't you find somebody else who you can ring and tell?'
-
something by Iron & Wine i think.
-
pain is only a pulse...if you just stop feeling it
-
Off the top of my head (see if you can recognize it, fuckers):
In the shuffling madess
Of the locomotive breath,
Runs the all-time loser,
Headlong to his death.
He feels the piston scraping --
Steam breaking on his brow --
Old charlie stole the handle and
The train wont stop going --
No way to slow down.
He sees his children jumping off
At the stations -- one by one.
His woman and his best friend --
In bed and having fun.
Hes crawling down the corridor
On his hands and knees --
Old charlie stole the handle and
The train wont stop going --
No way to slow down.
He hears the silence howling --
Catches angels as they fall.
And the all-time winner
Has got him by the balls.
He picks up gideons Bible --
Open at page one --
Old charlie stole the handle and
The train wont stop going --
No way to slow down.

Oh, youve got green eyes
Oh, youve got blue eyes
Oh, youve got grey eyes
And Ive never seen anyone quite like you before
No, Ive never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, its the last time
Oh, Ive never met anyone quite like you before
Oh no, Ive never met anyone quite like you before

I'll post some more just because I like the song too damn much, I wasn't gonig t opost it because of it's anti-religous overtones but fuck it...
Samael - The Cross
The wind of spring blows in heaven
in the land of gold in the land of god
manipulate the holiness
maculate our loneliness
shining between two worlds
learning to win and hold
fraction of monopoly
tension of opposite's pole
give or take what has to move
for I will fight for my country
Eldest to the one and I
harvest of love and light
armless - amnesty
North south east and west the cross is sent over the lands
keep draining what was and will be in our time in our life
pilot soul takes you on a ride, no rise no fall for Humankind
Among the best survive or leave
paranoid night so hard to relieve
would you betray innovation
in the name of tradition
hopeless - amnesia
North south east and west the cross is sent over the lands
keep draining what was and will be in our time in our life
pilot soul takes you on the ride, no rise no fall for Humankind
Helvetia gloria still smile behind the shade of shame
cross your faith, join your hands tomorrow holds another day
Eldest to the one and I
harvest of love and light
dictated by war and hate
supported by those who hide
it lives in your mind
whatever you may say
whoever you may pray

One particularly cheesy lyric from a Voxtrot song has been hitting home lately:
"I would leave you for the person you used to be"
I love it.
-
"How can I feel pain when you're being so supportive" - Bill Bailey in his Ballad to Modern Rock.
-
"Well, I got a hand
And I got a fist
And I got a plan
It's the best that I can do
And now we say, 'It's in God's hands,'
but God doesn't always have the best goddamn plans, does he?"
-Wolf Parade, "Dear Sons & Daughters Of Hungry Ghosts"
"She showed up for our date
Five years late
She said 'You're so sexy, and so great,
Aren't you gonna show me where you sing your downtown songs?'
I said, 'Downtown's gone, downtown's gone,
And my only ties to that old scene
Are the same mean people in pre-owned jeans
I used to love them all, but they burned me up"
-The Long Winters, "Prom Night At Hater High"
Also, pretty much every lyric off of Black Sheep Boy.
-
"Sing for the bartender sing for the janitor sing
Sing for the cameras sing for the animals sing
Sing for the children shooting the children sing
Sing for the teachers who told you that you couldn't sing
Just sing" -The Dresden Dolls, Sing
"Charlotta making lasagna
With Mia above the clouds
Charlotta making lasagna
With Mia above the clouds
But you could have waited
You could have locked yourself up
For ten years or so
And when you finally came out
There would still be no chances for you" -The Knife, Lasagna
-
dust in the wind... everything is dust in the wind... all we are is dust in the wind...
but in all seriousness, it would probably have to be something by bob dylan, and if he wasn't an option. ziggy stardust, by bowie.
-
This changes with me every day....If I could, I'd just say something composed so I wouldn't have to bother with lyrics.
For now....
"I'm old enough to know that
people waiting on some big sign
should quit their waiting on the divine
divine is what's in your mind. "
Walking to Do, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.
-
These are the lyrics to the song "Decrepitude" off the Burzum album Filosofem, it's the last track on the album to have any lyrics. They pretty much sum up the entire emotion and mood of the album. It also gives you a small insight into the fractured and disturbed mind of the guy who penned them.
Tears from the eyes so cold, tears from the eyes, in the grass so green.
As I lie here, the burden is being lifted once and for all, once and for all.
Beware of the light, it may take you away, to where no evil dwells.
It will take you away, for all eternity.
Night is so beautiful (we need her as much as we need Day).
-
"And I feel, so much depends on the weather, So is it raining in your bedroom"
Stone Temple Pilots- Plush
It sounds really cheesy when I type it out, but it isn't in the context of the song.
-
simply
all my friends are fuck ups but they're fun to have around
-
Apologies for the caps, I can't find any non-caps lyrics thingoes of it.
The Girl That Wanted to Be God - Manic Street Preachers
THERE ARE NO SUNSETS JUST SILENCE
YOU COULD SEE THAT SHE WAS TRUE AND FAITHLESS
BUT SEE THROUGH THE FUTURE AND FORGET ALL THE LIES
BLACKOUT THE WORDS FOR THE BLIND HAVE EYES
I AM THE GIRL WHO WANTED TO BE GOD
I AM THE GIRL WHO WANTED TO BE GOD
THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU FEEL HOPELESS
JUST FOR ONCE FOR NO ONE ELSE WE ARE BLAMELESS
THE DAWN IS STILL BREAKING ITS HEAVEN IS SO HIGH
SHE TOLD THE TRUTH, TOLD THE TRUTH AND THEN SHE LIED
I AM THE GIRL WHO WANTED TO BE GOD
I AM THE GIRL WHO WANTED TO BE GOD
HOLD ME SHE SAID LOVE ME TO DEATH

I really have no idea. Probably something by Skyclad or Sol Invictus. Actually, this is probably one of the best couplets anyone ever wrote, from 'Penny Dreadful', by Skyclad, which is just a song about how much Martin Walkyier hates Kerrang!:
"DJ's, VJ's, Pimps and trollops,
Never mind music: THIS IS BOLLOCKS!"
The way he shouts it in his accent: brilliant.
Or perhaps 'Laws and Crowns by Sol Invictus:
"The role of creator, and destroyer
The laws of life, Need no lawyers
In the cruel world of blood and struggle
Coming second means winning rubble
A laurel wreath upon his brow,
Bloody garlands for his crown.
A laurel wreath upon his brow,
Bloody garlands for his crown.
The past is cruel, and the prest false
Man and nature, become divorced
Hands are torn, from the clock-face
The future like a wolfpack waits
A laurel wreath upon his brow,
Bloody garlands for his crown.
A laurel wreath upon his brow,
Bloody garlands for his crown.

Pink Floyd are my favourite band, but let me just add here that I think DSOTM is their best set of lyrics from pre-'73, but from '73 onwards I think it's their absolute worst.
I would take the entirety of the wall, honestly. Stunning record.
-
Pretty fuckin' hard to narrow down, but my current two favourites would probably be:
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Counting Down The Hours
Innocence, it don't come easy - in a sense it never will
Accidents mean no one's guilty, ignorance means someone's killed
So I asked our Mr. Mellor how one gets to where one's going
And he points to his survival, and he points me down the road
And I go on
Wondering if I've got a soul and
Counting down the hours 'til it goes
On a dark wet night in April, on a street in Jersey where
I went looking for some writing that I knew would not be there
And a punter from the Pelhams and the police, in the rain,
Were concerned more with a car than with the fact the light had changed
But after listening all morning, as I drove down 95
To a story of detainees who were barely kept alive
I could deal with trying to process pigeons acting like they're doves
But not with interference from the power lines above
And I go on
Wondering if I've got a soul and
Counting down the hours 'til it goes
And oh, precautions, yes precautions
But if you're playing with a gun, you could kill someone
And in the dark it's hard to know a friend
But I'm not angry, I won't be forever angry
As I'm walking toward tomorrow with a rifle in my hand
And I'm thinking about New England, and I'm missing old Japan
And a mountain in California where a spring runs hot and cold
And if I told you I felt ageless, would you tell me I'm not old?
And I go on
Wondering if I've got a soul and
Counting down the hours 'till it goes
or
Decemberists, Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
and here i dreamt i was a soldier
and i marched the streets of Birkenau
and i recall in spring
the perfume that the air would bring
to the indolent town
where the barkers call the moon down
the carnival was ringing loudly now
and just to lay with you
there's nothing that i wouldn't do
save lay my rifle down
and try one, and try two
guess it always comes down to
alright, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way
and i am nothing of a builder
but here i dreamt i was an architect
and i built this balustrade
to keep you home, to keep you safe
from the outside world
but the angles and the corners
even though my work is unparalelled
they never seemed to meet
this structure fell about our feet
and we were free to go
and try one, and try two
guess it always comes down to
alright, okay, guess it's better to turn this way
and here in spain i am a spaniard
i will be buried with my marionettes
countess and courtesan
will fall 'neath my tender hand
when their husbands were not around
but you, my soiled teenage girlfriend
or are you furrowed like a lioness
and we are vagabonds
we travel without seatbelts on
we live this close to death
and try one, and try two
guess it always comes down to
alright, okay, guess it's better to turn this
but i won, so you lose
guess it always comes down toalright, it's okay, guess it's better to turn this way
If I had to pick something smaller than an entire song, it'd be the middle verse of Architect
-
Pretty much every Skyclad song has great lyrics, but at the moment R'vannith is one of my favourites:
R'Vannith, R'Vannith, R'Vannith I cried
As I grieved for the fallen - and wished I had died
I heard ravens laugh - stripping the flesh from her bones
Well fed by the Senate and People of Rome.
Two thousand years pass by - yet still they hold sway here
Their Empire is holy (its motives the same)
They have traded their spears for the cross that man fears
Those who nailed Him up high now rule in his name.
Invaders come to violate
To subjugate and legislate
Believing their forefather's crimes
Give them the right to twist our minds
R'Vannith, R'Vannith, R'Vannith we'll cry
When the last of our freedom is crushed by a lie
New legions of pious hypocrisy ride
To baptise us in blood (an unstoppable tide)
-
Off the top of my head (see if you can recognize it, fuckers):
Jethro Tull- the better question is why Thick as a Brick has ever been used as scratch fodder...
-
"from the window (window) to the walls (to the walls)
'till the sweat drops down my balls (my balls)
an' all you bitches call (call)
AWWW Skeet skeet mother-fuka! (motha-fuka!)
awww skeet skeet goddamn"
in reality
"The monkeys stand for honesty,
Giraffes are insincere,
And the elephants are kindly but
They're dumb.
Orangutans are skeptical
Of changes in their cages,
And the zookeeper is very fond of rum.
Zebras are reactionaries,
Antelopes are missionaries,
Pigeons plot in secrecy,
And hamsters turn on frequently.
What a gas! You gotta come and see
At the zoo."
-at the zoo by simon and garfunkel
I especially like the part about hamsters...
-
people say she's crazy, she got diamonds on the soles of her shoes
weeell that's one way to lose these walking blues
diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She was physically forgotten
then she slipped into my pocket with my car keys
she said you're takin' me for granted because I please you.
Wearing these dia-a-amonds.
and I could say oo-oo-oo
as if everybody knows what I'm talking about
as if everybody here would know exactly what I was talking about
talking about diamonds on the soles of her shoes
She makes the sign of a teaspoon;
He makes the sign of a wave.
The poor boy changes clothes and puts on aftershave:
To compensate for his ordinary shoes.
And she said "Honey take me dancin" but they ended up by sleepin
In a doorway
By the bodegas and the lights on Upper Broadway.
Wearing diamonds on the soles of their shoes...
and I could say oo-oo-oo
and everybody here would know what I'm talking about
I mean everybody here would know (exactly) what I was talking about
talking about di-i-i-a-ai-amonds.
people say I'm crazy, I got diamonds on the soles of my shoes
weeell that's one way to lose these walking blues
diamonds on the soles of your shoes...
Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes - Paul Simon.
I love this: it's one of few songs that I can remember all the lyrics to without fail. Also it has spooning in it.
-
From Curl Up And Die's "But The Past Ain't Through With Us" EP:
Deal with what you have, and what you'll have left, because there is no such thing as a fresh start.
Later in the same song:
I am no good at being around. I am no good at being alive. But I am trying.
-
here's one of many i could list:
A is for angry, which is what you are at me
A is for adult, which is what I'll never be
A is for applesauce, my favorite meal
A is for Adam, which is how I sometimes feel;
Like I'm the only man on Earth, and I've forgotten what that's worth
A is for Arthur, he's a lovable drunk
A M & Azing, like Thelonius Monk
A is for argument, A is for apparent
A is for antagonism that's not even there and
it's just you begging for attention or something I won't even mention
And I don't even know why you keep on trying
Like I don't even know why I keep on lying
There are millions of people in worlds of their own
And two of them can't let go
A is for algebra, I learned it in school
A is what Fonzie said, 'cause he was very cool
A is for adversary, A is for affection
A is arousal, you are giving me an erection
C'mon I'm trying to show affection for longer than a half an hour
I met a woman I used to know
Long before you, long ago
All I could say, after hello
Was "are you still single?";
A is for attitude I can't help but wield
A is for arrogance; emotional shield
A is for acting, A is for abhorrently
A is for asshole, which is what I am, how rude of me.
I owe you an apology I'm sorry

"Rock For Sustainable Capitalism"
Propagandhi
I fuckin' love that one rock video where
that fucking jack-ass mohawked millionaire
prances around by far the worst sausage party on earth,
where by mere chance he's caught on film shaking hands
with an incredibly diverse collection of patriotic skins.
I like the message it sends:
With a Rebel yell, Just Do Exactly What You're Told.
One million douche bags can't be wrong?
"When did punk rock become so safe?"
You'll excuse me if I laugh in your face
as I itemize your receipts
and PowerPoint your balance sheets.
I hear this year's Vans Warped Tour is "going green!"
I guess they heard that money grows on trees.
Hope they ship all those shitty bands overseas
like they did the factories.
Music's power to describe, compel, renew...
It's all a distant second to the offers you can't refuse.
Anyone remember when we used to believe
that music was a sacred place and not some fucking bank machine?
Not something you just bought and sold?
How could we have been so naive?
Well, I think when all is said and done,
just cause we were young doesn't mean we were wrong.
And I'll rock back and forth
on this two-bit hobbyhorse
'til she splinters and gives way.
I'll tend the flowers by her grave.
And whisper her name.
If anyone out there understands
can I please see a show of hands
just so I know I'm not insane?
Ever get the feeling you've been played?
Well, that's rock for sustainable capitalism and you know,
we may face a scorched and lifeless earth,
but they're accountable to their shareholders first.
That's how the world works.
(If Daniel's looking at this, he's going, "Yep, this kid is just what I think he is.")

An Albatross - I am the Lazer King is three lines of perfection:
Baby, this rock and roll,
Baby, will save your soul.
... I AM THE LAZER VIKING!!!
-
Back & Forth - The Dismemberment Plan
There?s a kind of music that reminds me of you
It?s all clear expensive drinks and shiny shirts
And the click of heels as they descend from the taxi
Like the first foot on the moon, oh, and it glows with ache
And if it hits me right it?s almost too much to take
And it?s got right angle razor thin lines
That turn and swerve like perfect sines
As we dress to the nines in an
Attempt to leave it all behind
In a search of the moment between the seconds where
Everything is just fine
That silver thread imbedded deep within our spines
And I used to be kind of weird about this
A fear of dependence on a guilty gilt-edged
Hedged transcendence that makes us lairs
And tense when we look down and realize
That nothing really suspends us
But it was never just another Saturday night
Not with you in attendance
So throw your hands in the air
And wave them like you just don?t care
It?s on a whim; it?s on a dare
To shrug away what we can?t bear
And we?re going back and forth
And back and forth and back and forth and back
We?re going back and forth
And back and forth and back and forth and back
And it?s a deep blue see-through membrane that protects us
It connects us, a pulsing cellophane
Party-train skein that helps us and
Envelopes and keeps us locked inside
Forever and ever along for the ride
And we?re moving through a phosphorescent gel
A semi-solid self-lit ocean and it?s a funny notion, isn?t it?
Yeah, but I?m kinda digging it
And it?s rigged and isn?t nearly so big
And it speaks only of its own
Perpetual near miss
Like the uncertain memory
Of a stranger?s mistaken kiss
And faces slide by in glowing shadows
Like snowbound ghosts that go up and down
In epileptic shivers and negative radioactive slivers
In a landscape of endless dull glitter
And a taste in my mouth so sweet, yet so bitter
And we exhaust ourselves trying to get there
Somebody scream?all right
We?ll try to fill the echoless night
So fasten up and hold tight
We can?t give up without a fight
And we?re going back and forth
And back and forth and back and forth and back
We?re going back and forth
And back and forth and back and forth and back
So in the end, whatever, we die, we dissolve
Equations unbalanced, riddles unsolved
And we were never connected or involved
Except for the intersections and crazy mathematics
With no time and no space and no schedule and no place
And we pass right through it without a trace
And sometimes that music drifts through my car
On a spring night when anything is possible
And I close my eyes and I not my head
And I wonder how you been and I count to a hundred and ten
Because you?ll always be my hero, even if I never see you again
-
"I swear I have nothing to prove - I just want to dance in your tangles to give me some reason to move."
-
Okay people the question was "What is your favorite song LINE" not -song-. Gosh.
Anyway, I think the one I like the most, off the top of my head would be one of two from My Chemical Romance...
1. "Mama, we're all gonna die."
2. "The doctors and the nurses they adore me so
But it's really quite alarming cause I'm such an awful fuck (why thank you!)"
-
That second one is two lines, I'm banning you.
"How can the dissatisfaction of some left or right wing faction hope to justify the bombs that burts, the innocents that burn?"
-
Hmm...true, but the second line is a continuing thought ;)
And at least it's better then posting the whole damn song. Because, in all actuality, the song kinda creeps me out.
-
Are songs not normally one continuing thought, or at least a continuing concept that could be considered a thought?
-
Right now there is a contest going on in my mind between two:
"clllLLAP YOUR HANDS! (But I feel so lonely)
Clap your hands! (But it won't do nothing)
[etc etc]"
and
"Oh, the shark has pretty teeth, dear,
And he shows them pearly white.
Just a jacknife has Macheath, dear,
But he keeps it out of sight..."
They both get stuck in my head for hours at a time. Woo.
-
Are songs not normally one continuing thought, or at least a continuing concept that could be considered a thought?
...Uh, no. Lol --I mean like, as a sentance.
Nevermind. Be quiet. :-P
-
All time favorite lyric and I don't know why.
I can't see no reason to put up a fight
I'm living for giving the devil his due
-
You smile as you ease the gun from my hand and I'm frozen with joy right where I stand
From Going to Georgia by the Mountain Goats
-
"She was a really good kisser and she wasn't all that strict of a Christian."
-
As far as The Hold Steady go, I'm partial to this verse of "Your Little Hoodrat Friend":
Your little hoodrat friend's been calling me again
And I can't stand all the things that she sticks into her skin
Like sharpened ballpoint pens and steel guitar strings
She says it hurts, but it's worth it
Tiny little text etched into her neck it said
"Jesus lived and died for all your sins"
She's got blue black ink and it's scratched into her lower back
It said "damn right I'll rise again"
Yeah, damn right you'll rise again
-
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"
-
Basically almost the entire Smiths/Morrissey catalogue is a collection of totally awesome lines. Morrissey is like Oscar Wilde, only slightly more gay.
-
"Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?, A smile from a veil?"
"I'm not sick, but im not well"
"To me,
Coming from you,
Friend is a four letter word"
"Disarm you with a smile
And cut you like you want me to
...
And what I choose is my choice
Whats a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you"
-
Stood there cursing at the soul-dead mass
with their fabled illusions, the vain dreams that passed
splinters of a life rushing by in the whirl
alone, silent warrior in a fantasy world
He cried for night but night could not come
so, swept in the shroud of misanthropy he went away
-
Oh, I have to add some more to this thread:
'My girlfriend asks me which one I like better (Six Pack)
I hope the answer don't upset her'
Six Pack, Black Flag
-
Pardon Me - Incubus
"Now, two days ago,
I was having a look
in a book
and I saw a picture of a guy
fried up above his knees.
I said, I can relate,"
cause lately I've been thinking of combustication
as a welcomed vacation from
the burdens of
the planet Earth.
like gravity, hypocrisy,
and the perils of being in 3-D"
As my friend's dad once said, "Get on the bus. The Incu-bus."
-
A classic...
"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby, can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here"
-
Man, that seriously is one of my favorite songs ever recorded.
-
Basically almost the entire Smiths/Morrissey catalogue is a collection of totally awesome lines. Morrissey is like Oscar Wilde, only slightly more gay.
Also, one of my favorite song lyrics is in hebrew, which is funny because I usually dont like Israeli music.
-
Man, that seriously is one of everyones favorite songs ever recorded.

I'd have to say "The Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum" by Collide
-
A classic...
"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby, can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here"
Bohemian Rhapsody?
I have a bunch of songs i love the lyrics to. Like "Stardust Motel" by Andrew Norsworthy:
Stop the arguing please,
I was working on the memory,
of the rhythm of her breathing,
when she's fast a sleep.
So much sweeter than sound,
of people disagreeing.
and some Simon & Garefunkel:
And as I watched the drops of rain,
weave their weary paths and die.
I know that I am like the rain,
there but for the grace of you, go I.
basically sappy sounding, somewhat poetic stuff...
-
Tunnels! gosh I love this song:
"And if the snow buries my,
my neighborhood.
And if my parents are crying
then I'll dig a tunnel
from my window to yours,
yeah a tunnel from my window to yours.
You climb out the chimney
and meet me in the middle,
the middle of town.
And since there's no one else around,
we let our hair grow long
and forget all we used to know,
then our skin gets thicker
from living out in the snow.
You change all the lead
sleepin' in my head,
as the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn.
Then we tried to name our babies,
but we forgot all the names that,
the names we used to know.
But sometimes,
we remember our bedrooms,
and our parent's bedrooms,
and the bedrooms of our friends.
Then we think of our parents,
well what ever happened to them?
You change all the lead
sleepin' in my head to gold,
as the day grows dim,
I hear you sing a golden hymn,
the song I've been trying to say.
Purify the colors, purify my mind.
Purify the colors, purify my mind,
and spread the ashes of the colors
over this heart of mine!"
They're great on their own but they sound a lot more poignant and powerful in the song.
-
Bohemian Rhapsody?
Indeed. And another...
"cause nothing lasts forever
and we both know hearts can change
and it's hard to hold a candle
in the cold November rain"
-
"All i ever wanted, all i ever needed is here in my arms,
words are very unecessary, they can only do harm,
enjoy the silence."
-
"I FUCK LIKE A BEAST!!!"

The Spill Canvas- "The Tide"
Heaven's not a place that you go when you die
It's that moment in life when you actually feel alive
Jonny Lang- "Only a Man"
I used to live my life in fear
Was worried all the time
From waking up to laying down
I had no peace of mind
The world became a darkened place
A struggle without end
And although bitter times those were
The days I had begun to understand
I was only a man
Damien Rice- "Delicate"
So why do you fill my sorrow
With the words you've borrowed
From the only place you've know
And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to you
Why do you sing with me at all?
-
i love "The Tide". i really like The Spill Canvas actually. "The Night Will Go As Follows" is like my theme song.
in a romantic fashion,
i will experiment, with my fear right before her eyes,
and every smile that's unveiled, will be soaked in my nervous charm
-
Ah, I lreally love that one as well. I am so insanely psyched to see them on Saturday ($10 for a ticket, baby) and I'm really looking forward to that song especially.
If any guy ever sang that for me, I would just die. In a good way. Basically I would melt.
-
I saw them this summer. They only sang a clip of The Tide at the end of another song and I don't really blame them for doing that. They did pretty well.
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Imagine - John Lennon
-
" I feel unburdened as the bourbon starts to seep"
It sounds so good. Try saying it. Then imagine you're a folk singer with a pretty voice.

Senors! Mio favorito band of lyrics, she is the Silkworm.
You be saying, Senor, un minuto. Why you always talk about her, the Silkworm? We no like this Silkworm, she is the brass shit. Always with the Silkworm! Mamma Mia! You may say, some other band she is molto bello but not this Silkworm, for she is not band for me, Senor!
Is fair to say but for me, she is the Silkworm.
Senor Tim Midgett of the Silkworm, he is mio favorito. His words he is putting so many words in the sentence, she is sagging under the weight. He is breathless bambino who has run all way home to say he has seen un coniglio. He is not stopping to take breath, he is telling you the story, the story she is funny and molto bello. Sometimes she is so so bello, story she makes you cry for her. Senor Midgett's songs are so pretty when he is to be writing about the signores. Per esempio -
Strands of your hair fell,
Opened your eyes,
The start of a spell,
Perpetual movement,
A gleam in your eye,
The cut of your hair,
The length of your stride...
Senor Midgett, he is so amore he see all the the little bello of signore. Her capelli and her camminata, is like we see girl no?
Graci Senors.
you just mixed spanish and italian. :[

You try too hard.

"Across The Universe"
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter, shades of earth are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a
million suns and calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva
I love the Beatles.

You try too hard.
I'll try you hard.

that's what she said
-
Yes. Thank you.
-
Also, French and English.
Do you think it might have been on purpose?
yes. i just enjoy pointing out obvious things.
-
Obvious one:
I got reservations/about so many things/but not about you
others:
You're my only girl/ and I'm your only guy, yeah
i came upon an octopus/ and his name was/ sarah mansion/he was not one of he and not one of i
super fav!
My old girlfriend's studying medicine/ Would you save my life if I got sick?/
Haven't seen you in a while. /How have you been? /Of course if you have the right
insurance for it/
-
I'm not a huge fan of Punk or whatever but I admit I rellay like some of the lyrics in NOFX's "The Decline"
I wish I had a schilling
For every senseless killing
I'd buy a government
America's for sale
And you can get a good deal on it
And make a healthy profit
Or maybe, tear it apart
Start with the assumption
That a million people are smart
Smarter than one
Serotonin's gone
She gave up, drifted away
Sara fled, thought process gone
She left her answering machine on
The greeting left spoken sincere
Messages no one will ever hear
Ten thousand messages a day
A million more transmissions lay
Victims of the laissez faire
Ten thousand voices, a hundred guns
A hundred decibels turns to one
One bullet, one empty head
Now with Serotonin gone
and then later on in the same song
We are the queer
We are the whore
Ammunition
In the class war
We are the workers
We love our queen
We sacrifice
We're soilent green
-
Not really amazing lyrics or anything but I just like them at the moment...(though..it might just be liking the song)
It's a crime you let it happen to me
Nevermind, I'll let it happen to you
Out of mind, forget it there's nothing to lose
but my mind and all the things I wanted
Breaking Benjamin--Forget It
-
First to pop into my head is Nickel Creek's "This Side":
You dream of colors that have never been made,
You imagine songs that have never been played.
They will try to buy you and your mind.
Only the curious have something to find.
It's foreign on this side,
And the truth is a bitter friend.
But reasons few have I to go back again.
Then Barenaked Ladies :
I'll be that girl -- and you would be right over
If I were a field, you would be in clover
If I were the sun, you would be in shadow
And if I had a gun, there'd be no tomorrow
and pretty much any Paul Simon, Simon and Garfunkel.
To round it out, some Jonathan Coulton:
Code Monkey have boring meeting
With boring manager Rob
Rob say Code Monkey very dilligent
But his output stink
His code not "functional" or "elegant"
What do Code Monkey think?
Code Monkey think maybe manager want to write god damned login page himself
I love lyrics! :D

In Flames- Crawl Through Knives
The black hole forever mine.
I need fear.
Push me out
Ohh be brave
Show me signs
Should I feel shame for the questions that I have
If you could be
The things I need.
I'll crawl through knives
An inch per tear.
These knives, they bleed for you.
Let the colour persuade the hate
That you fear.
Feed the lie.
Force the reason.
Leave me in doubt.
Need some motivation
It's in my hands.
The sky is so bright.
It's burning.
It's for me to return.
If flames we'll reach heaven tonight.
It's in my hands.
Nailed to the floor
Paralyzed
Emotions drifting
Touch the new
If you could be
The things I need.
I'll crawl through knives
An inch per tear.
These knives, they bleed for you.
Let the colour persuade the hate
That you fear.

Basically almost the entire Smiths/Morrissey catalogue is a collection of totally awesome lines. Morrissey is like Oscar Wilde, only slightly more gay.
Is that actually possible?
-
No, it just sounds good.
This was unlike the story
it was written to be
I was riding its back
when it used to ride me
We were galloping manic
to the mouth of the source
we were swallowing panic
in the face of its force
~Joanna Newsom: "Peach, Plum, Pear" (To my mind, one of the best songs ever.)
It?s the second September I have known you
Four years or so ago, I rode a pony, called him ?Truth?
We didn`t know the way so it took us till today to get here
And all that time, I felt just fine
I held so many people in my suitcase heart
That I had to let the whole thing go
It was taken by the wind and snow
And I still didn?t know that I was waiting
For a girl on a slow pony home
I can remember when I first saw you
You said in my photograph I looked more far away
I laughed and smiled and didn?t say ?I am a bit afraid to be here.?
Setting free the anchor and looking past the shore
It?s a sea of horses on ships with no sails, no motors, no oars
Now we?re cleaning the windows between us two
Funny, you do it once, and then again, and pretty soon
the fingerprints and dust...
But I?ve begun to trust the view here.
~The Weepies: "Slow Pony Home"
-
Is that actually possible?
dude have you looked at Morrissey lately?

Another favourite lyric:
Mother and father may be the other way around, I'm not sure. It doesn't make much difference.
'My father was of the sky
My mother was of the earth
But I am of the universe
And you know what it's worth'
The Beatles - Yer Blues
But I may be biased because I LOVE Lennon's scream on that last line, or on most songs.
-
Blind Guardian - Battlefield
"Renowned be the lion-hearted"
nuff' said
-
<snip>
"I'm not sick, but im not well"
"To me,
Coming from you,
Friend is a four letter word"

Harvey Danger - "Flagpole Sitta" and Cake - "Friend is a four letter word" right there...good choices.
As for my favorite song lyrics...i'ts admittedly a humorous song in nature...but go look up the lyrics to the Arrogant Worm's "Assumption Song"
-
The Breeders - Mad Lucas
-
I can't bear all this pain.
I had watched the snow
all day. Falling.
It never lets up.
All day falling.
I lifted my voice and wept out loud,
"So this is life?".
My Dying Bride - The Snow in My Hand
Dreams drift in the frozen wind
And mysteries are reborn
We rose from sand and stone
To follow the light's allure
Tears drift in the shadows sleep
Turn innocence into excess
Fragments of a dying world
And destiny lies beneath
Celtic Frost - Babylon Fell
-
"So may this round be on the corpse of a dead man, with a toast that tells of a love he never shared!" - Curse of a Fallen Soul, Dropkick Murphys
"I saw you in an ice-cream parlor, drinking milkshakes cold and long, smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think you knew you were in this song." - Five Years, Bowie.
-
Two headed boy she is all you could need
She will feed you tomatoes and radio wires
And retire to sheets safe and clean
But don't hate her when she gets up to leave
Two Headed Boy, Pt. 2 - Neutral Milk Hotel
Really freaking beautiful, like everything on that album.
-
And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But its better than drinkin' alone
-
She said you're pretty good with words but words won't save your life
-the Hold Steady
and you pointed your headlamp toward the horizon.
We were the one thing in the galaxy God didn't have his eyes on.

See, with you understand the Oscar Wilde reference, one would think you'd understand humour.
He was making what's called a joke, poking fun at Morrissey inferring that Morrissey is indeed gayer than Oscar Wilde, and for proof you need only look at him.
The internet ruins so many good jokes for so many good people.
-
"Come in," she said, "I'll give ya
Shelter from the storm."
To me, this is one of the best refrains ever sung. I like songs that talk about sanctuary.
-
I really like the imagery this song conjures up some of the best lyrics Bruce Dickinson has ever wrote, really sums up the horror of war
Iron Maiden - The Longest Day
In the gloom the gathering storm abates
In the ships gimlet eyes await
The call to arms to hammer at the gates
To blow them wide throw evil to its fate
All summers long the drills to build the machine
To turn man from flesh and blood to steel
From paper soldiers to bodies on the beach
From summer sands to Armageddon's reach
Overload your master not your god
The enemy coast dawning grey with scud
These wretched souls puking shaking fear
To take a bullet for those who send them here
The world's all right the cliffs erupt in flame
No escape remorseless shrapnel rains
Drowning men no chance for a warrior's fate
A choking death enter hell's gates
Sliding we go only fear on our side
To the edge of the wire
And we rush with the tide
Oh the water is red
With the blood of the dead
But I'm still alive pray to God I survive
The rising dead faces bloated torn
They are relieved the living wait their turn
Your number's up the bullet's got your name
You still go on to hell and back again
Valhalla waits Valkyries rise and fall
The warrior tombs lie open for us all
A ghostly hand reaches through the wall
Blood and sand we will prevail
-
and you pointed your headlamp toward the horizon.
We were the one thing in the galaxy God didn't have his eyes on.
-the Mountain Goats
Those are quite possibly the most beautiful lyrics ever.
-
It's nine o' clock on Monday morning and I'm late
I stayed up drinking with the girls from Silver Lake
With no make-up on I get into my car
And then I drive into the freeway parking lot
They say I'm lazy, I'm always late
Full of excuses, I'm from LA
They say I'm careless, can't find my way
Crazy and precious, I'm from LA
I'm all hung over, feels like nails inside my head
It's getting hot, the sweat is dripping down my legs
The air conditioner still broken from the quake
And now I'm melting like a wax doll in the flames
(Here in LA)
They say I'm lazy, I'm always late
Full of excuses, I'm from LA
They say I'm careless, can't find my way
Crazy and precious, I'm from LA
The radio says sig alert all throughout the five
I'm right behind an ugly Saab with broken lights
I put my make-up on while Betty's on the line
With nothing else to do it helps me pass the time
They say I'm lazy, I'm always late
Full of excuses, I'm from LA
They say I'm careless, can't find my way
Crazy and precious, I'm from LA
-Go Betty Go
Being from LA, this song is so much fun to sing, it's fun to scream out the window when driving recklessly in other cities
-
Gwar - Nitro Burnin' Funny Bong
Ahhh...sweet youth
The joys of becoming a teenage prostitute
Or in my case a blood-crazed gladiator
Til I got stuck on this planet and got hooked on the weed
and the crack and the booze and the pills and the speed
And the sex and the mud and blood and the shit
Let's go hit the
Nitro-burning funny bong
Just one hit, your life goes wrong
Nitro-burning funny bong
Another stupid stoner song
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
We contemplate oblivion as we resonate our dissonance
In godless random interpretation
The universe still expands, mankind still can't understand
How to define you, so hide your face and watch us exterminate ourselves over you
Welcome to the end my friend, the sky has opened
Nevermore - Timothy Leary
A wise man came across the sea
In search of LSD philosophy
With open heart and open mind
To find the goodness in mankind
Bare your soul and you're saved
Believe the chosen that dreams in rage
Chemicals improve the view
Visions now have bloomed in you
Windowpane is suffered bliss
A psychedelic kiss
Show to me your ideology
Do you perceive or are you sleeping?
Timothy Leary, where are you now
The world needs you, we're going down

The Pixies - I've been tired
One two three
She's a real left winger 'cause she been down south
And held peasants in her arms
She said "I could tell you a story that could make you cry"
"What about you?"
I said "Me too"
"I could tell you a story that will make you cry"
And she sighed "Aaahh"
I said "I wanna be a singer like Lou Reed"
"I like Lou Reed" she said sticking her tongue in my ear
"Let's go, let's sit, let's talk"
"Politics go so good with beer"
"And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?"
I said "Loosing my penis to a whore with disease"
She said "Excuse me please?"
"Just kidding" I said "Losing my life to a whore with disease"
I said "Please... I'm a humble guy with a healthy desire"
"Don't give me no shit because..."
I've been tired[6x]
I tell a tale of a girl, but I call her a woman
She's a little bit older than me
Strong legs, strong face, voice like milk, breasts like a cluster of grapes
I can't escape the ways she raise me
She'll make you feel like Solomon be one of your babies even if you had no one
(And while we're at it baby, why don't you tell me one of your biggest fears?)
Took my sleep after setting my loins on fire
But that's OK because...
I've been tired [6x]
Great : )
I'm sure there's many many more.
:D

It's an epidemic really, we need to do something about it.
Oh and on topic...
"Rocking horse people eating marshmallow pies."
This is from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles, in case you were unaware.
This simple lyric blew my mind when I was 11 years old and got me into classic rock and my interest in music period.
