Holy God, Daft Punk made a mash-up record of their own songs.
I can only imagine how face-melting this must've been live.
-
WHAT?!?
...WHAT?!?!?
Whoa.
-
I heard a few tracks from it on the radio, my mind can't comprehend this as a live gig. :-o
-
I can only imagine how face-melting this must've been live.
I'll tell you next month.
(I can confidently guess that it's going to be entire-body-melting though)
-
Daft Punk came around these parts in July and I missed it and I knew when tickets were on sale too.
So far this is number one on my List of Regrets. I will never forget it.
-
I posted the album last night in the Sendspace thread for all you people to download and enjoy.
-
It was pretty awesome when I saw it, but I dunno if I was on enough drugs.
-
Yeah, this was a pretty amazing tour. My only complaint is that there's no live DVD, even though they recorded at least 2 of the shows (probably more, you can see clips of their Wireless show on Youtube, and I know they recorded in LA). The whole light show was such a gigantic part of making this performance memorable, and it kind of sucks that so many people are missing out.
-
The only time they've been around here in the recent past was Lollapalooza. Gah! Too expensive. That said, I am furiously envious of my friends who got to see the pyramid. And the album is pretty tight.
-
im pissed cause they will be in brisbane in december and i really wanted to go but i missed out on tickets and now fucking scalpers are being fucking ridiculous on ebay .... like were talking $300 a ticket

daft punk's vegoose 07 set, live.
pretty sweet. enjoy.
-
I have their coachella set, it is amazing. It isn't just cut'n paste mashups, it's brilliant cut'n paste plus new elements. Some tracks from Human After All really come alive in this setting.
I'll upload that set, actually. ETA an hour or so.
-
I can only imagine how face-melting this must've been live.
Yeah, saw them live in August. It was incredibly face-melting. It was actually life-changing.
-
Listening to this album is at once both awesome and a visceral reminder that I failed to get fucking tickets for their show next weekend.
Daft Punk, SebastiAn, Kavinsky, Muscles, the Bang Gang DJs, Cut Copy, Van She Tech.
Motherfucker
-
huaaaaaaghhhhh
-
Saw it live in Red Rocks on four different substances. Easily the greatest night of my life. I managed to fight my way into a pretty good seat too.
-
if any australian fans are interested, the special editon of this cd has just been released it comes in a pretty book with photos and a random bonus cd. the catch is that it has already been deleted by the label and won't be released in australia again. so after they are sold(and they are going quick, at least from my particular place of employment), you will have to pay a whole bunch more to get an import.
go! buy! and enjoy
-
JB Hi-Fi?

-
Ear/mind fuck.
-

-
AAAR!
This is so brilliant.
This just makes me so much more upset that I didn't see them over the summer.

Question for all of you audiophiles out there
On "Touch It/Technologic" at about :32, what are the words?
To me it sounds like "fuck it", of course, but my roommate says it's not (he says it's "flop it", which is completely ridiculous)
What does everyone else think?
-
Virtually positive it's "fuck it."
-
I second that.
-
Yeah, it seemed very clear to me
-
of course wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alive_2007) knows the actual answer.
And yes, it is 'fuck it'.
-
having read jeph's guide to listening to Alive 2007 on the music blog, i finally convinced myself to sit through the entire CD. all i can say is.. wow. it's amazing when you put music on and people come from across my floor to find out what i'm playing (i live in a dorm). needless to say, there was a mini dance party for a while. definitely took the stress of finals away.
thanks jeph for getting me to finally listen to this and making an amazing comic!
-
So, ah, anyone have/want to upload the bonus disc? I do not have said encore.
-

i gotta tell ya, i listened to it and had the same reaction you did via your blog, it was mesmorizing beyond comprehension of lowly life forms like me
-
So, ah, anyone have/want to upload the bonus disc? I do not have said encore.
Indeed, pretty please?
-
I'll tell you next month
shut up shut up shut up
Normz, if somehow I come into two Daft Punk Brisbane show tickets from a friend or something I will buy you one because it makes me so mad that someone else did the same stupid thing I did and forget to buy tickets.
-
So, ah, anyone have/want to upload the bonus disc? I do not have said encore.
it's uber easy to nab the mp3s on slsk/soulseek now.
i gotta say that this, battles and ratatat have made my work week just fly by...
-
the Bang Gang DJs
Whoa! A couple of them played a party in my basement at the beginning of the school year. They said it was the best party they'd ever done in the US (they're Australian).
Sorry, rereading the thread brought this back. Carry on.
-
I've been watching the bonus disc dvd thing a bit and I'm crying that i don't have tickets. I'm also pissed off that i don't have the $350 a friend was selling a ticket for! damn! They better release a live dvd!
I will upload the bonus disc. I shall let you know when i do
-
Hate to say it, Gilbert old friend, but if this person was scalping at $350, they're not much of a friend. Yikes.
-
I finally, FINALLY found a copy of Alive 2007. It's like the freakin' Holy Grail of albums! Every store was sold out, until I finally snagged an overpriced copy at Silver Platters. Duuuuuude.....awesome album. From beginning to end, it rules. Jeph recommended it to me in person at the Emerald City Comic Con; I am so glad. Thanks, Jeph!
Oh, and Jeph... I can't BELIEVE you still haven't seen InterStella 5555! I may have to buy another copy and send it to you. I can picture Marten, Steve, Faye and Dora sitting around, getting drunk and watching it, complete with snarky comments about Shep being a creepy fanboy.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete." --Sun Tzu, The Art of War
-
Yeah, interstella 5555 is possibly the best pairing of techno and anime ever produced. It makes me wanna start a disco band on an alien planet
-
I am looking forward to this thing (http://www.theworldisdaft.com/).
It was intended to be a "Fan DVD" of the show, they wanted to pair the sound of the CD with various video recordings of the show.
The previews they had looked quite promising, but according to their Youtube account, they got into trouble with the sample owners, so they can't release this thing. Now they're planning to give us a "special surprise" after that timer runs out (which is in just over an hour.). Nothing on the actual website says anything about the actual DVD being cancelled, so I'm optimistic about this being a late april's fools joke. If not, we'll probably get a streaming version or something.
-
grr, I would so stay up for this if I didn't have a Business Studies exam at some ridiculous hour on a SATURDAY
life huh? ain't she a motherbitch.
-
I am officially an idiot. I figured that countdown was synced with an online clock, but it uses your system's time. I am at -1 days, and -1 hours now. I don't even know what timezone that countdown was supposed to use.
-
Yess! The album might as well have blow me, i enjoyed it so much. man, that sounds way worse than it did in my head...
-
The time ended for me I think... The timer isn't there and there's a button that takes me to some random page in some language I do not speak. Looks like Portuguese to me, but honestly it could be Spanish or Italian or practically anything else written with this alphabet.
-
Yes, the timer is gone. The button was there before, I suppose the site is french, but it's not too relevant to what's happening, check the "English Version" button.
The guy who does this project lives in Paris, apparently, so he lives in the same timezone as I do.
It seems that the countdown didn't count down to the "surprise", but to saturday. Looks like we'll get our surprise at 9pm CEST, id est in ten and a half hours.
-
If anybody hasn't bought this yet, I'd recommend doing so through iTunes. If you buy the album through them, you also get a thingie in your library that opens a PDF document with 25 pictures from the set. Pretty cool stuff!

To me it sounds like "fuck it", of course, but my roommate says it's not (he says it's "flop it", which is completely ridiculous)
What does everyone else think?
It definitely is "fuck it," but if you listen carefully enough one could (as I did) think it was actually "lock it," since they finish the lyric after they loop that phrase like 20 times.
-
Am I the only one who thinks Alive 1997 was better?
-
Yep.
-
Pretty much.
-
Agreed
-
I haven't yet found a copy of Alive '97, so I can't say. But it would stand to reason that the 2007 version would be better simply because they have a larger catalog of sound to work with than they did 10 years ago. At that time, they simply had "Homework."
And personally, I agree with Faye on the Daft Punk issue: "I'm sorry Dora, but liking Homework more than Discovery is like enjoying vanilla more than chocolate ice cream. It means that you are boring." --Faye Whitaker, strip number 452: We're Not Even Going To Mention Human After All
That's my favorite strip, because it's the one that got me turned on to Daft Punk in the first place. Thanks again, Jeph!

i had downloaded what i thought was Alive 2007 a few months back, but i properly bought the CD to get the artwork and realized that what i had was probably just a cleaned up live act from another date, probably a lot earlier...
Alive 2007 makes it clear that they've really improved their live act from what set i had, and it's probably one of my fav albums of 2008...a bit late.
-
What you had might have been their Coachella show at the beginning of the same tour.
It was a great show, but Alive 2007 is better.
