Puzzle games are fantastic, as a general rule. They offer something most other games can't, which is to say unlimited engaging gameplay. I don't know about you guys, but I can still play Tetris for hours and hours on end years after it's initial release.
Lately, I've been horribly addicted to Bejeweled 2. Damn you, Popcap!
-
Bejeweled 2 is the only puzzle game of which I bought the full version.
I love it, especially the Endless Mode.
-
My favorites are definitely Bust-a-Move and Puyo Puyo.
-
Holy God I love Tetris so much.
I think I'll play it right now.
-
I am pretty much a fan of any form of Tetris. If blocks fall from the ceiling in pre-assigned shapes I am there.
-
Dr Mario. I love Dr Mario. I could waste hours on that game.
-
I've been playing Puzzle Quest a lot lately, which is basically Bejeweled with RPG elements. However, I can't decide if I'm actually having fun while I play it or if it's just a combination of OCD and masochism on my part. It's not a hard game, per se, but the random elements of Bejeweled (you know, new gems that you can't necessarily see falling in from the top) take on a whole new flavor when they can result in you getting raped by an Ogre for 30 damage and you have to play through the match again. The PSP version is apparently rather buggy, but there's a version available for the DS as well as a PC version. Anyway, here's a link if any of you guys are curious: Puzzle Quest Demo (http://www.fileplanet.com/175873/170000/fileinfo/Puzzle-Quest-Demo)

I like flOw (http://intihuatani.usc.edu/cloud/flowing/), does that count?

Yeah, I've got the DS version and I know what you mean. I am super careful to make sure I eat up ALL skull gems and even then, I'll lose a round to something with super high attack score because it'll just get lucky. Good game, but I actually prefer just plain ol' Bejeweled.
-
I love this game
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora%27s_Box_%28computer_game%29
-
Ok, Zero, so I keep collecting the white things, and going deeper and deeper with the red things, but the orange things take me back and sometimes turn blue.
In other words, what the fuck?
-
LocoRoco!
Anyone else play that ever?
-
My sister loves it, but i've never played it.
-
I've never played LocoRoco because I don't have a PSP, but the new game from those folks (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,18539.0.html) may be the thing that makes me cave in and buy one.
-
Dangit...I don't need another good looking game to burn another hole in my wallet. Curse you, Storm Rider, for introducing me to Patapon!
-
Oh my god, that game looks awesome.
Release date is speculated to be the end of February for us North American gamers.
-
I'm pretty sure it's basically been nailed down as the 26th, yeah.
-
Hexic HD! it's an arcade title that comes stock on your xbox 360 harddrive. i'm sure you all know what i'm talking about. it's awesome!
-
Nothing can really beat Tetris, but I do love some fun Puyo Pop on my DS and my new Gunpey for my DS. The DS is the best place for me to play puzzle games as they can be quick and dirty between classes.
-
I may or may not have just lost the last four hours of my life to flOw. Do I need a ps3 for a version with a save feature and no slowdown?
because seriously, I feel like a better person after having played that game. It reminds me of the first time I played Thief.
-
Are you seriously thinking about buying a 500 dollar console to play a downloadable game that you can get for free on the PC?
-
Puzzle Quest's PC version is now downloadable through Steam.
Just thought I'd mention.
-
Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade release is also a puzzle game. It's called Poker Smash, and the guys on 1up Yours were speaking well of it a few weeks ago. I'll probably download the demo at the very least, but I also probably buy way more Live Arcade games then I should.
-
yes. To be fair, I was probably going to get one anyways (littlebigplanet), but yes.
Actually, that's how I play games: I generally don't get consoles because they seem cool; I get them because I Must Have one or two games for them. For DS, it was Tetris and Elektroplankton.
-
I used to love Chip's Challenge, I could spend hours starting from the beginning just to have a smooth run-through all the levels.
-
Tetris, Dr.Mario and Mean Bean Machine/Kirby's Avalanche(same game but still kicked ass), bust a move is right up there too.
-
Wow, I thought for sure someone would have mentioned puzzle fighter in the first three post. Well, thats my pick for favorite puzzle game.
-
Oh shit, yeah, Puzzle Fighter is pretty awesome.
DAN FOR THE WIN!
-
Where's the love for Sonic Eraser and Columns?
Okay, don't answer that first part. I still say Columns is cool though.
-
Twinkle Star Sprites
<3
Shooter + Puzzle
Everyone here should go MAME it.
And the Puyo Puyo series. My introduction to puzzle games (I shall always prefer it over my second introduction, Tetris.)
-
My latest good find was Grow Cube. http://www.eyezmaze.com/eyezblog_en/blog/2005/09/grow_cube.html
-
Holy shit, man, I've been playing that for the past hour.
I think I've got certain parts figured out, like, I'm relatively certain you are supposed to start with the little man and most likely end with the springs or the ball.
CRAZY STUFF!
-
yes, you're getting close! I don't think the last two matter - but you have to get the first 8 exactly right. It took me a few hours over 3 evenings - and when it all works, it's so cool.
-
I probably beat it about 30 minutes after my last post saying I was figuring it out. >_>
-
Crazy Cube (http://www.dailyhaha.com/_flash/crazy_cube.htm)
I played it for hours one night and could not get past level 16.
-
Srsly? No Tetris attack?
That game is beast, and it has a killer soundtrack.
Actually, this gives me a great idea.
-
Why has no one mentioned Portal.
You all are failures.
There's a word / puzzle game called Bookworm Adventures made by the Wal-Mart of the casual game market, Popcap. It is immaculate, and as far as I know it predates Puzzle Quest by a few months at least.
-
Really, I think Portal fits into the first person shooter genre more than puzzle, and actually, this article (http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/f/portal-is-the-most-subversive-game-ever/a-20071207115329881080/g-2006071916221774024) sums it up pretty well.
-
I quite like Puzzle Pirates (http://www.puzzlepirates.com). Not only does it have pirates, but the puzzles are fun and the overall community is by the far the best I've found on any online game so far.
Also, it's free, which is good for cheapskates such as myself.
-
professor layton and the curious village.
-
Crazy Cube (http://www.dailyhaha.com/_flash/crazy_cube.htm)

fun game, I got to 22 and was stumped.

Bookworm Adventures IS pretty awesome. I wouldn't really define it as a "Puzzle Game", however, as it's more akin to Boggle than it is Tetris.

Nah, it's a puzzle game. If you take out the puzzles, there is basically no game.
My favorite puzzle game ATM is The New York Times Crosswords for DS. It's difficult to find, but so fulfilling. If you like crosswords.

City Bloxx.
The idea is to build a city in a 5x5 square.
You have 4 types of buildings of increasing height; blue, red, green & yellow. In order, each requires the previous buildings next to it ... so blue can be put anywhere, but red buildings have to be next to blue, and yellow requires blue, red & green in adjacent squares. You can build over old buildings.
Building height is a factor for population (score), but I spend more time wondering how to get as close as possible to all yellow buildings.
(yeah, I know it's not much compared to any real pc games ... it's just something to pass time while I'm on the train)
-
Chu Chu Rocket! What an adorable game.
-
Are you guys into Point and Click games at all? I can never get enough of them, even though I can rarely get through them without a walkthrough. My favorite is http://www.albartus.com/motas/
There's not nearly enough love for Hexic on here. I'm up for a battle game on XBox 360 ANYTIME! (gamertag: fracturing)
-
i love columns.
-
My favorite puzzle game just has to be Tetris. Not only is it the best puzzle game, it is ultimately the best thing to originate from Russia.
-
Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village.
In the next 10 days I will be getting this game and I will go without sleep for...weeks. I've honestly not heard or seen a single negative review except for people going "You know...it seems easy...but it gets REALLY hard."
-
I made a thread about it but apparently no one saw it, but Echochrome (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21880.html) looks like it's going to be awesome.
The Japanese demo is downloadable for the PSP now, if you guys have one. I played through it and think it's just a brilliant concept. I'm so buying it the moment it comes out. You'll have to pull it up in your PSP (obviously) but the URL for the download is:
