I put my Christmas tree up weeks ago! It is only small but it is nice at night when the lights are on. I also have more presents under it now.

My family needs to get a new fake Christmas Tree, the old on was so far gone that the bulbs had started to burn out.  I don't think this Christmas will be different then any other, but I hope that I can see my girlfriend a little more this year.  Last year she had to work till 6 and by then it was her with me at my family's house.

I'm excited to buy presents! Though I don't know what to get my mom, which is not good, because hers is the most important gift! But my roommates are getting fun things and I think I may get my D&D friends something D&D related. Also we're going to have a Christmas/graduation dinner! (One of my roomies will graduate in a week and to celebrate, she wants to have a Christmas themed dinner party.) It's going to be fun!

At work we have started playing Christmas music. Specifically, we play Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas on a loop. I heard the song "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" eight times this evening. Repeated listens led me to pick out a contradiction of sorts in the lyrics. When Mr. Bocelli sings, "He knows if you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness' sake" I don't think he realises that if he is being good to appease a jolly old elf he is not, in fact, being good for the sake of being good. He is being good because he fears Santa's oppressive vision. He sees you when you're sleeping and knows when you're awake, after all. He is omnipresent and unmerciful. In Santa's panopticon your every action is determined by the fascistic bureaucracy of two lists checked twice. Old St. Nick is elevated to the level of a vengeful god; his arrival is a harbinger of judgment. The ring of sleigh bells signifies the Second Coming. The lump of coal in your stocking will fuel the fire that lashes your supple flesh for eternity.

I just put up mistletoe, in other news.

I am not sure how I shall afford Christmas this year, but I'm sure I will. Christmas tree is going to go up on the weekend. Looking forward to it. I like Christmas (though with my new job I will be working everyday over the holidays so I don't get to enjoy Christmas this year.

Thankfully this year only every other song is a Christmas music song at my work, though they are usually the crappy remakes that I hate so much.

Then again I am not a big fan of Christmas music unless it is Feliz Navidad or I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

C3PO Christmas (Star Wars TV Special)
Frosty the Snowman (The Brady Bunch)
Hip Hop Frosty (Unknown)
Come All Ye Faithful (Inpatient Music Therapy Program)
Homo Christmas (Pansy Division)
A Holiday Reminder (William Hung)
Come All Ye Faithful (Slim Spincter)
Here Comes Santa Claus in Black (Voicedude)

On that note though! Too cold this week (also too much snow) so we have pushed our nude singing to next weekend in the hope that it won't rain. I will be there after getting trashed at Balkanarama so with a massive hangover. Will see how that goes.

I am excited about Christmas! I don't usually get excited but I have THE PERFECT GIFTS for like 80% of the people I want to buy for (basically my immediate family including foster family, and then anyone who is allowing me into their home between mid-December and the New Year which is to say a lot of people many of whom I haven't even met yet) and ideas for the rest and I am so organised it is amazing, everything will be done by the 16th (it has to be because I am fleeing the country). The only problem is that I will have to carry presents for at least six people in my suitcase when I FLY TO NORWAY FOR TEN DAYS because I am then making an epic journey round London and its environs and seeing so many people I am so excited I have been stuck in the Welsh borders for what feels like months but is only really two weeks but it is so dull here and I see maybe four different people in a day and one of them is usually the postman and another is my mother and another is my stepdad and the last one is the farmer who swears at his cows and that is not really fun and I am going to stop now.

There's a Princes street in a fair few cities, though admittedly most aren't main streets.

I just couldn't remember where it reminded me off.

I have been making Christmas cards but they are not really cards because they are basically just one sided (well two sided but not a little opening card, just a rectangle of card). It was about 20 times cheaper than buying little cards from Paperchase. I know it would have been 200 times cheaper to buy card from a less expensive craft shop but something about Paperchase just drags me in and forces me to buy against my will.

I'm done with my Christmas shopping, which is good because I now have like, a dollar to my name. I got my Dad a Miles Davis cd (The Complete Birth of Cool) and I got my stepmum got the new Stephen Fry book and the new Susan Boyle album. My mum got the new Keith Urban album and I got my brother the Cyanide and Happiness book (because his Party-Cat shirt hasn't come in the mail in time). My girlfriend got season 6 of House. I feel a bit bad because under our tree are like, three presents for me but then she earns more than I do and I'll try and buy her something nice with the pay cheque I get next week.

I really like Christmas. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZqpa-7Q)

I really like Christmas too!
I had a few years of not liking it in the teenage spirit but it is okay now. Also all my presents might actually be something I want this year because I told people what I wanted for once!
I went a bit crazy buying presents for everyone too.
My grandparents I got a dozen French macarons, a nice picture frame, and a lovely print of a bird with a sewing machine for my quilting Nan. My mother I bought a bunch of lovely Japanese quilting fabrics and some 'handmade with love' tags, as well as a picture frame and a pretty watercolour that says 'slow down.' I also got her some Christmas ornaments and I think some more little things that I can't remember. For my brother I got a Threadless shirt and a game for his Xbox. For his baby I got a Threadless shirt! For my Dad and his partner I got some macaroons as well and I will buy them a nice wine this afternoon. They don't go in much for presents. For my boyfriend's parents we got a nice wine decanter and a CD as well as more macaroons.
For my boyfriend I got like, a million things because it is his birthday three days after Christmas as well but I won't write them here just in case.

I'm pretty sure this is an ok place to tell you all bout what I got this most festive of days.

I got; socks and underwear from my mom (really need some new ones and I get them every year any way); a grand total of about $325 or so from my family; a Chewbacca plush that makes noise when you squeeze it, a Red Wings Osgood jersey, an ice tray to make ice shot glasses, and two tickets to see a Red Wings game from my girlfriend; one of those Millenium Falcon hovercraft/captor things; and Stadium Arcadium and Hellboy: Masks and Monsters from Santa*

My niece made out like a little bandit.  Of course when she got socks she stuck her tongue out at them.  It was adorable and I should have a video featuring it soon.

*By Santa I mean I bought it, wrapped it up, and said that Santa got it for me.  A long standing family tradition

I got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and a Wii Fit, because balance in life is important. How many hours of Wii will I have to do to balance out all the things I'm going to bake now??

My girlfriend's family all bought me presents! I feel horrible! I didn't buy anybody anything  :psyduck:

I got some thermal underwear and a bath bomb and a t-shirt with a plaid maple leaf on it and a Hickory Farms sausage!

We had a 22lb turkey and broccoli casserole and two types of stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy and brussel sprouts and peas and carrots and dinner rolls and it was all amazing and delicious and nobody got drunk or yelled at anybody or said anything extremely racist and we played board games and went tobogganing and drank hot chocolate and listened to the Charlie Brown Xmas soundtrack.

Meanwhile I Skyped with my actual family on Xmas Eve and after keeping me waiting around for an hour basically the first thing they said to me is that I've gained weight.

I don't want to go back

Update: I got my boyfriend a Diana Mini lomo camera and he got me an awesome old heavy-ass vintage camera. Christmas theme!

I got my wife a Sony Alpha A33 to replace her Konica-Minolta Dimage A2.  The Dimage was fine in most ways, but the piss-poor focussing spoils the experience of using it.

I had to work on Christmas Eve instead of going to see my Dad's side of the family which is one of the only things I look forward to for Christmas. After work my girlfriend and I, instead of going home to clean up the flat to have it ready for when her parents came over on Christmas Day had to go pick up our very very drunk friend from the city and take him home to San Souci ('bout an hour there and back) because he'd been drinking solidy for a couple of hours and was at risk of running into traffic or getting in a fight or something.
My brother had a seizure on Christmas morning so I spent most of that day at the hospital with my mum and dad watching them fight over petty bullshit while my brother complained about how shit epilepsy is (totally justified). Then I when I took my brother back to my Dad's place (he was going to stay there that night anyway), my dad takes me aside to tell me that I'm fat and that he and my step mum are worried about my weight. Which was lovely.
On Boxing Day I hung out at home with my new presents (comfy pyjamas, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns) while my girlfriend went shopping with her mum. Then we went to her parents place for dinner which was pretty good but always uncomfortable because I hate her mum and her brother.

Thinking of going on holiday for Christmas next year so I don't have to bother with the whole thing. Now I'm off to work and it's raining. Yay.

I'm pretty sure this is an ok place to tell you all bout what I got this most festive of days.

<snip>

I was all okay until I saw "Red Wings" in the same paragraph as "gift". That's not a "gift" in my household, that's a curse.

I got a new vacuum from my parents and it is a huge improvement over the old one.

Before:
Me: "ok, it is time to vacuum"
Old vacuum: "yeah ok um, I guess I can uh, oh wait not that bit and uh, shit that really is in that carpet isn't it. uh, sorry"

but now it's more like:

Me: "ok, it is time to vacuum"
New vacuum: "OK LET'S VACUUM THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SHIT - VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR - FUCK YEAH, THAT FLOOR IS GODDAMN CLEAN"
Me: "FUCK YEAH!"
It: "I THINK I PULLED UP SOME OF THE CARPET!"
Me: "WOOOOOOO VACUUM FIVE!  o/"
It: "WOOOOOO!  \o"

It is a Dyson and it is fucking rad.

The carpet is not crunchy any more! It's a Christmas Miracle!

I got a book about fashion from ben, and a dress (but it is a strange cut so we have to change it), and when I told my mum I got a vacuum cleaner and a Wardrobe 101 book and a dress, she laughed at me, because apparently they are funny gifts, even though they were what I wanted? Our vacuum was shit and then broke! I am more interested in what I wear these days! The dress was very nice, just not right, so we are changing it to something better! Why is that funny?

I also realised that mum and my brother both spent a few hundred dollars on each other, and probably that much on me too, and I kinda almost feel bad that I didn't spend that much on them, because I bought things that they should like, that aren't necessarily a few hundred bucks each. Ah well, we'll see next week when they come to visit.

Yeah my mum and grandparents and brother are all either on the pension or Centrelink and they still spent hundreds on gifts for everyone, most of which were lovely. I have a pretty good job and I spent under $100 on each of their (relatively thoughtful, I thought) gifts. CHRISTMAS GUILT

I spent barely anything on gifts but for the first time ever I think I got things that most people actually liked (although my stepdad does seem to be in chronic uncertainty as to what I actually gave him... it was a collection of board games, which he said he would "watch later"). Basically I think focussing on cost is silly because you can spend thousands on something and it could still be really bad, whereas you could get a really good bargain on something awesome and that would be far more exciting.

i'm paying for school right now using sort of a mishmash combination of savings + my job + a massive line of credit and in order to apply for my line of credit i needed a cosigner so i asked my mom to do it. i didn't know until today that this means she now has the exact same access to my line of credit as i do (aaaahhhh) and found out a few days ago that she paid off a pretty substantial chunk of it as a christmas gift to me. it's made me pretty uneasy because my parents are, for lack of a better word, INCREDIBLY stupid with money whereas i am actually pretty okay financially right now and before i moved we had a lot of really massive fights about finances and how i didn't want to be dependent on them anymore whereas they were really pushy and insistent on it and basically it was one of the main reasons i didn't talk to them at all for almost five months. i didn't get anyone anything for christmas and now i have all this money i don't even want and it really sucks. i guess i will just put it into savings or something. i really hope this is just a one time thing. goddamn it parents

Man, I want a Dyson Airblade (http://www.dysonairblade.com/homepage.asp) for my bathroom so bad. I don't care if its for more public use, its blades of air that scrape the water from your hands with magic sorcery!

I'm surprised that basically all of my school's hand dryers, every campus in every city, had their old hand dryers replaced with those.  They are pretty nice, but they tend to shut off and leave my hands wet after the first time.  Way better then regular hand dryers though.

Dyson's new fan freaks me the hell out.  How does it work?  Magic I suppose.

My mum got a Dyson vaccuum cleaner years ago when they were the new thing and when you still got a fanfare of heavenly trumpets every time you switched one on or something. "Ooh!" we'd all say, "it's bagless! "

Then after a while its performance dropped markedly and we all realised that instead of having a bag that you had to clean out or replace every once in a while, it just had a filter that you had to clean out or replace every once in a while.

If I'm honest with myself I've stopped expecting very much from life since then.

X-mas  was pretty good. I spent about $600 total on the 9 people I buy for. It was nice that my fiance and I's parents each ended ups pending around $1100 on us because we really needed what they got us, and without coordinating it they each spent the same ammount, so no wierd feelings. Gifts that cost that much used to bother me, but now that I'm old enough to understand financial security and the relative value of things it doesn't.

The downside is that for the second year in a row, my fiance's father's friend has went out of the way to point out that heffeweisen is the "pussy" beer and only women drink it, I drink it, and am a man, so I assume hes insulting me. The day after X-mas we (Me, my fiance, her brother, her dad, and the family friend) go to the strip district (place with import/international shops and fresh food) and then have lunch at the same bar where I drink the heffeweisen because I like it. I don't want to cause some big rift, but I don't appreciate the insult either.

Dude, Harry, get one of these (http://www.rainbowsystem.com/rainbowsystem/). They will beat the shit out of any vac you have ever used, ever.

Also, Dovey, you know Christmas is not over for another 9 days, right? Give your girlfriend's family gifts now! Bonus: Everything is on sale because all the scrooges think Christmas is already over. Cheap presents!
