just scrapping around in imdb and found that mass effect the movie is in development, a HALO movie slated for 2012, and the old school board game battleship.
-
There's nothing new in that.
Cluedo was made into a film once
Tomb Raider
Should be interesting to see how they go though.
-
The WoW movie is going to be terrible. I'm calling it now.
-
It should be fine as long as they remember to grind emotional authenticity and character development
(I am sorry about my really rudimentary WOW humour guys, it's just that I'm not a horrible person)
-
Gotta collect a full set of epic script-editors and put all their points into the plotting tree.
-
Or just go all out on fanservice and then anyone was going to see it will be happy and everyone who wasn't going to will be happy too because they told you so.
-
That's brilliant.
-
Just waiting for the gritty action picutre reboot of Candyland.
-
Personally I'm waiting for Uncle Wiggily, the movie.
-
I'm waiting for Chutes and Ladders. Kids falling down slides to get eaten by snakes and shit. I think that'll properly scare future generations.
All the slides will be mine.
-
Duke Nukem Forever
-
The Path.

Halo was in development a while back. Apparently there was a lack of finances or something and they made District 9 instead.
-
What I am saying is that they should try and make another halo movie.

Wow. Thank god for that. I mean, a Halo movie could be pretty good, if they pull it off, but I loved District 9. Does anyone know if it's getting a sequel? The cliffhanger ending sort of demanded one.
-
It was going to get made, but the financiers didn't have confidence in Neil Blokamp, who had only made commercials (including some impressive Halo commercials) at that point.

I call dibs on making this.

Nah they couldn't follow that up

Much as I am a fan of the game, you'd know they were beginning to run out of ideas if they made a Runescape movie.

So many allusions and similarities to Halo in that film, it was almost like watching a movie that was half Halo, half Earth.
I think all the promotional Halo 3/ODST stuff was really well done and you can see how it would translate to a movie, but the general consensus is that games make terrible movies because you can't please all the fans but for some reason they are always worse than expected. I mean at least in Tomb Raider there was a lot of side boob, latex boob, bouncing boob, to focus on when you felt the story slowed down.
It'll be interesting to see what games get turned into movies once obscure and famous comic book characters have been worked and reworked to death. Probably something like OutRun or Golden Axe. Sega will rise only to fall again.

cluedo was made into a film once
what the heck is cluedo and does it have anything to do with Clue? Because the Clue movie is really really good

Yes. Cluedo is the name the game you know as Clue is known by down here as well as many other countries.

Weren't those commercials originally the sales pitches for the movie?

An interesting one might be Talisman.

I wanna be in it.

Considering Hollywood bought the rights to make an Asteroids movie....I think they're already scraping the bottom of the barrel. They also have Monopoly and a few others.
The Bioshock movie is in continual limbo because Verbinski won't make it without an R rating and a higher budget. Which is nice, the longer they don't make a Bioshock film the happier I am.
I'm interested to see if video game films become as widespread as films based off of comic books. Considering how saturated the market is with superhero films I'm curious to see when they stop performing consistently.

:psyduck:
What in the unholy blue fuck have they done to Mario...?

The instant they release Roger Corman's take on the Fantastic Four.

Wow im in love of Mass Effect, now i can't wait for Mass Effect 3 and continue this saga. And now you say a movie, that is just awsome!

I've never really been clear. How do you pronounce the "do" in Cluedo? Does it rhyme with Clue or is it "Clue-doe"? Also, what is a cluedo?

-
(a play on "clue" and "Ludo", which is Latin for I play.)
I guess that answers that.
-
Hah. And to think all this time I've been pronouncing it as if it was a Spanish word.
-
[deeprumblingangrysamuraivoice] Cludo! [/deeprumblingangrysamuraivoice]

What's worse, though? A movie made from a game or a game made from a movie?
-
That's actually quite difficult to say, although I'm sure some movie games have gotten better reception than game movies, and vice versa.
But generally speaking and by looking at the statistics, most movie games are (considered) crap.
-
Lego movies games are usually pretty alright aren't they?
-
Yeah, but those are generally the exceptions, if only because they're made years after the movie they're based on, so they don't have to rush the game out to match a release date, which is the problem with most movie games. There are other exceptions probably, but the only one I can think of came out in 2004. (Spider-Man 2)
-
The Scott Pilgrim game was awesome. I much preferred it over the film.
Battle: Los Angeles had a game that lasted around 40 minutes. Probably the worst movie-game in recent memory.
Iron Man's games have also been horrendous.
-
That's the funny thing. The one good recent tie-in game was a download and was what, $15? While the hour-long shitty ones somehow try to sell for $60. I didn't want to spend $10 to watch Battle: LA, why would I spend $60 to play it?
-
What's worse, though? A movie made from a game or a game made from a movie?
Most games based on a movie have a limited shelf life of appeal - either because the knowledge of the movie / TV show has been lost or the game was rushed into production to meet the demands of the marketing department.
-
Ah, sorry, Battle: Los Angeles was also a downloadable title and I believe is 10-15 bucks. Either way, you're paying for an experience that is way worse than the movie while also being quite a bit shorter.
The Scott Pilgrim game has an incredible amount of love that has been clearly put into it. Also, it's way more influenced by the graphic novels but they made it because of the movie. I'm not sure if I'd really call it a movie tie-in because of how different it is.

The WoW movie is going to be terrible. I'm calling it now.
It's probably a good thing High Overlord Saurfang hasn't found out about the movie yet. But once he does, he and Darius Crowley will obliterate Hollywood in a storm of cleaves; Saurfang with his ax and Crowley with his bare fists.
-

What if Leeroy Jenkins makes a cameo?
-
What if Leeroy Jenkins makes a movie of his own?
I think I'd pay to see THAT, rather than a WoW movie.
I guess it'd be a string of scenes of him rushing into crazy ass situations, and getting all of his companions killed, whilst boasting that at least he has chicken...
-
The only good WoW movie is a WoW parody. Which should star Leeroy Jenkins. If it made fun of all the ridiculous things about that game with all the silly pop culture references (and cameos of people characters are based off of, like Harrison Jones and Harris Pilton), it could have potential. But a serious version would be kind of dumb.
-
The main character should be a Night Elf Mohawk.
-
Sidekick. And voiced by Mr. T.
-
I pity the fool!!
-
Duke Nukem Forever
-
I was fairly sure the Warcraft movie was exactly that... a Warcraft movie, not necessarily WoW. This is the reason I was suspending skepticism until I see something of it.
Making a movie within the WoW setting would be difficult to pull off, whereas a Warcraft movie I guess could write itself, if you just took the storylines from the strategy titles.
-
Any Blizzard series could be condensed and worked into a very watchable movie, given enough talent and dedication to the source material.
It's a pity Hollywood is mostly destined to shit on source material like it was toilet paper
-
Diablo and Starcraft could also make interesting movies. Blizzard usually puts a lot into the backstory so there is a ton to work from.
-
Wasn't Sam Raimi in talks to do the WoW movie? And Bruce Campbell always cameos in Sam Raimi films ergo Bruce Campbell as Leroy Jenkins.
-
Would see that movie.
-
Nah, Bruce Campbell would be a mage with his staff built into his arm.
SEE THIS? THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!
-
^I would pay to see that
