Well, they wouldn't want their love to be tainted, would they?

Musical qualities don't generally matter with regards to extreme fandoms' behaviours.
This kind of thing happens all the time and has been documented all the way back to the 1840s with Lisztomania and I suppose even earlier in Italian opera and the prima donna and primo uomo phenomenon. In those cases the music can be almost objectively stated to have been better, but the same principle is at work. People hear that an artist is a god among men and flock to him. People being pack animals and attention whores compete for the title of greatest fan ever.

What has changed this recently is that marketing to the young (11-14 crowd) has increased exponentially. Their musical tastes aren't going to have developed beyond terrible pop songs yet at that age. I know I wasn't a Dylan fan at that age..

The specific aiming at 11-14 years may be new, but crazed fangirls going crazy over their musical idols, indeed isn't new. I remember reading about 2 girls jumping into a flipping VULCANO because Elvis died.

That they go crazy about their favourite artists doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that they start insulting and cursing other bands without research. Beliebers saying Queen is a stupid copycat because they copied Somebody to Love from Bieber makes me pissed because they can't even see the fact that Queen recorded it ages before Bieber was even popular. Same with the 1D fans going crazy against The Who.

Pure ignorance sickens me.

Don't see what the fuzz is about, the music has been encoded in any normal number forever.

This. Jesus fuck. Freddy Mercury was dead before Bieber was even so much as a twinkle in mommy and daddy's eye.

how long does it take a sperm cell to develop, anyway?

Sperm are continuously produced in a healthy man, take about ten weeks to reach maturity, and then only survive for about three weeks in storage within the man's body if not ejaculated (Though I think that's pretty academic in most cases; cf. the TMI thread ). So every sperm may be sacred (NSFW), but its total life-cycle is only about thirteen weeks. Freddy Mercury died about two years before Justin Beiber would have been conceived, so the sperm that fertilised an egg to create the embryo that became Bieber was not lurking in anyone's ball-sack when Mercury died.

Edit: Fixed gross error in Mr. Mercury's name. What was I thinking?

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

Kugai

Relax Barmymoo, most intelligent people don't get it either.
