That's probably Station *pretending* to use Hanners' phone as an emitter so as to not freak out the locals.

This shift in plot will open a lot more lines. disrupting the lives of the characters again will open new story opportunity's. Plus maybe even the start of another comic strip. Who knows but I will welcome all.

Claire's dad seems unlikely given that Yay was willing to deorbit a dead satellite onto the Caribbean island he supposedly ran off to with the other woman.
