Anyway I think it would do reasonably well as a graduation song, has suitable lyrics and manages to be both mournful, inspirational and fun.

My graduation song was Steely Dan's "My Old School".  It's not exactly what you want to be conveying on graduation, but it's a riot to have your friends play it on the stage much to the chagrin of the principal and deans.

If you guys think "Good Riddance" is bad, then you would have hated my grad. They wouldn't have the good taste to pick that song. Instead, we went with the infinitely crappy "Ce n'est qu'un debut, ce n'est jamais finit", which I'm sure is some schlock produced by Star Academie, the Quebecois version of Canadian Idol.

3EB is actually a really good band.  I got sick of them when 3EB first came out, because it was hells of overplayed.  Last summer I picked it up again when the new album came out and listened to it, and it's pretty damn good.

Holy crap, this existed back during the first time I was on the board!  The quotes didn't even link back to the original post back then (I knew that was new-ish)!  I still agree with my original suggestion:

I'd go with Alice Cooper's "School's Out."  Yes, it's overplayed, but I don't hear it much, because I pretty much only listen to my music, and I don't even have that song.  That's why it'd be my choice.
