A tribute to The Flaming Lips:

Sum 41- Talkin' Bout the Smiling Deathporn Immortality Blues
Counting Crows- Halloween on the Barbary Coast
Simple Plan- Turn It On
Linkin Park- She Don't Use Jelly
Toby Keith- Chewin The Apple of My Eye
Nickelback- Slow Nerve Action
Weezer- Christmas at the Zoo
William Hung- Bad Days (Aurally Excited Version)
Hilary Duff- Race for the Prize
James Blunt- A Spoonful Weighs a Ton
Trapt- The Spark That Bled
Gwen Stefani- What Is The Light?
R. Kelly- Waitin' For A Superman
The Bloodhound Gang- Fight Test
Fall Out Boy- Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
William Shatner- Are You A Hypnotist?
My Chemical Romance- Do You Realize?
Green Day- The W.A.N.D.

Yes, I just ruined all of your lives forever.

Erm, Weezer would be brilliant covering Flaming Lips.

And I must say that Linkin Park cover of She Don't Use Jelly would be comedy genius!

Actually, I think Mastodon could probably do a decent cover of Orion. And if it were Machine Head back when they were actually GOOD, then they could certainly do Battery.

I'm going to assume this is an actual tribute, and that it was the bad Machine Head.

any tribute to the smiths (save for 'at the drive-in - this night has opened my eyes' and 'xiu xiu - asleep') is a bad idea in my eyes.

01. deftones - please let me get what i want
02. pale sunday - i know it's over
03. placebo - bigmouth strikes again
04. supergrass - some girls are bigger than others
05. i'm tired of listing bad smiths covers
06. they've all been done
07. please stop doing them
08. this is a plea to all musicians
09. thank you.

however, i find the worst 'tribute' albums to be unintentional, whereupon bands don't even know they are shitty cover bands.

par example, interpol as joy division.

I love you. Very, very much. Glad to see you back, by the way.
My friend said the same thing about interpor when they first came out and it made me giggle. I still kinda like their first album though. Good for relaxing.

Just as an aside, has there EVER been a decent multi-artist Black Sabbath tribute? I mean, Rondellus one is sweet, and Hand of Doom is kinda cool in a LOL THE SONGS R SUNG BY A GIRL way, but all the multi-artist tributes (Hell Rules, Nativity in Black 1-3 etc.) are generally fucking lame. And it's not like I haven't got some great Sabbath covers by groups like Orange Goblin and Candlemass lying around...There are about four or five good songs on the whole NIB series (generally by artists who you could actually imagine doing justice to a Black Sabbath song, ie. Danzig, Type O Negative, and kinda surprisingly White Zombie) and that's it. I mean, seriously, System of a Down and NoFx. Covering Sabbath. WHAT?

Have you heard the Cardigans' version of Sabbath Bloddy Sabbath?  I honestly can't tell if it's horrible blasphemy or the greatest thing ever

Yeah, I have. Apparently the Cardigans are all big hard rock fans. I find that pretty damn odd.

My contribution to the actual topic: A death metal tribute to Shonen Knife, featuring:

Cannibal Corpse - I am a Cat
Lamb of God - Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)
Acid Bath - Cycling is Fun

And more! (I can't think of any more bands that would fit the mould of Death Metal, but you get the idea.)

Too bad neither Lamb of God and Acid Bath are death metal.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

I will take your word for it, and offer my apologies.  I won't even pretend to be able to understand the myriad seemingly-identical subgenres of metal.

And that Cannibal Corpse is one of the worst death metal bands ever.

The prime mitigating factor, of course, is that Acid Bath is super-awesome-great.

Just as an aside, has there EVER been a decent multi-artist Black Sabbath tribute?

Have you ever heard Hell Rules or Hell Rules Vol. 2?  I have Vol. 2 (I know one of the guys on it, and felt obligated to pick it up, even though he hated the band that hired him for the CD), and it's pretty good.  Evoken's version of "Snowblind" is excellent.

I got one!

A Tribute To Creed - Pearl Jam With Arms Wide Open

Although, it would be fun if Pearl Jam decided to take Creed's greatest hits and turn them into actual good songs as a 'fuck you'.

I fucking adore that record. My favourite album ever. I can't wait for the new album this year.

fixed.

In what sense is that fixed, when it's now incorrect, what with Weezer's debut being my favourite album ever?
