Gang Gang Dance - Before My Voice Fails

I love GGD! But their name is a bit unlucky.

Yeah, the name pisses me off a lot.  Friends who've seen them live say they're absolutely phenomenal - really rawkus mess of music and heaps of fun to dance to, injecting loads of life into their performances..

I'm listening to Coil's 'The Hills Have Eyes' off a bloody excellent compilation called Macro Dub Infection.

Meet some better people.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Metal may be the only major genre with an intro track.

Most hip-hop and dance albums have intros at the start.  Or is that not what you mean?

Slint - Spiderland

Just got this, and it's my first listen.  Not sure what to think of it right now, I need to hear it on my headphones first and actually focus 100% on the music.

No. I mean, 'Black Sabbath' by 'Black Sabbath' is pretty much an intro track for the entire genre, as in it's the first song on the first truly metal album and musically and thematically, it fits the bill. The opening riff has been described as the sound of the gates of hell opening.

I mean, other genres have theme songs, but not like this, and not genres this big.

Which album should I buy next?

You've got no other Björk?  I'd say probably 'Homogenic', and then if you want to keep going, 'Post'.

Listening to a Ben Gibbard / Andrew Kenny EP I picked up a while back.  I can't stomach listening to even half a Death Cab For Cutie album, likewise find American Analog Set pretty boring, but I love their frontmen as songwriters, so 4 short acoustic songs from each keeps me happy.

Right now I'm listening to The Fiery Furnaces ~ Blueberry Boat.

I think this album was also recommended on this site. I'm a little disappointed in the album. There are a couple of good songs, but overall, this album makes me feel like I am in a bagged salad commercial.

Darkthrone-A Blaze in the Northern Sky
-The snooty girl who rents the upper half of the house I'm living in is having a party because there's an american football game at my uni tomorrow and they're being loud and drinking crud-lite. After downing two bottles of dogfishhead IPA and a bottle of touis pistoles dark ale this is the perfect way to show my displeasure whilst enjoying myself.

Portishead - Mysterons

I was pretty much musically ignorant in the 90's so I never listened to triphop when it was fashionable to do so.
That means that I am still enarmoured with Beth Gibbons and Martina Topley-Bird.

I have a slight case of musical ADD today, so I've been bouncing back and forth between Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere," Refused's "Shape Of Punk To Come" and Slayer's "Christ Illusion."

This combination may or may not require immediate medical attention tonight, I haven't been able to tell.

This riff is unbelievably good, should come with a warning or something "may cause spontaneous headbanging"...

Desaster are a really good band, I"m suprised they are as unknown as they are.

(Proroky) The Prophets - "Back to the Burner".

This is apparently the story of a scientist who builds a nuclear reactor that fails and explodes, leading to his deportation to Siberia, but because it's spoken in excited Russian I have no idea. Cool industrial atmosphere, though.

Lawrence Arms - "The Greatest Story Ever Told".

It's a sort of concept album with a circus theme. I picked it up last week and I've pretty much been listening to it since. One of the few albums that I can listen to all the way through without wanting to skip a song. I will say that "The Revisionist" is my favorite song off the album.

Yeah, that's one of the better 'DJ Kicks' albums.  Became as ubiquitous as the Kruder & Dorfmeister one 5 years earlier...

Currently listening to Disrupt, billed as "digital laptop reggae" from the net label Ideology.  It's pretty ace.  Disrupt also runs a label called Jahtari, which must be the best name ever.

Terrorfakt - "Arsenal".

Note to self: next time you buy tickets for a show, make sure you still like the band. I'm hoping they're a lot better live, because right now the "THUD THUD THUD THUD VOCAL SAMPLING THUD THUD THUD CHANGE-UP THUD-THUD THUD THUD-THUD DISTORTED VOCAL SAMPLING REPEAT" pattern is feeling mighty old.

I'd imagine Terrorfakt would be pretty fucking brutal live. Start a pit!

Cryptic Wintermoon - Thrashomatic Overdrive

This song is as awesome as the title makes it out to be, and that is something indeed.

"Back to generation zero:
Thrashomatic overdrive
Enigmatic origin stain by hidden force...
Exinguishing the flame of mortals,
Systematic termination
Monumental patron of the unhallowed hordes

I sustain all synthetic factors of nocturnal grace"

I like it even though it has some old school heavy metal stylings and ridiculous vocals to boot. It is pretty neat how they switch to being medieval folkies sometimes. It creates a nice contrast.
