What are you listening to (and discuss it).

Personally, I didn't see any particular lack of discussion in the old thread. There was plenty of stuff going on there.

Anyway, I'm listening to John Otway - Really Free

And, to get discussion and debate rolling, I posit that this song is, in fact, certainly one of the ten best punk songs of all time.

If one of the other ten is not The UK Subs - Strangelhold, I will have to punch you.

Which I'm actually listening to.

If any UK Subs song, I would be thinking more along the lines of Party In Paris, but I guess Stranglehold is pretty awesome.

The 3rd and the Mortal - Sophisticated Vampires.

The 3rd and the Mortal are one of those bands which it's kinda funny that only metalheads really listen to. They're also pretty damn strange.

The 3rd and the Mortal are actually really good. I allways thought they were this band that only teenage goths and "scene" metalheads liked. I was pretty suprised when I listened to In This Room.

Anyway, I was going to PM est asking to bring back the old thread. A new one might be better.

The thing is, despite the fact they are in no way a metal band, 3rd and the Mortal are still mainly operating within the metal community and underground because all their connections and whatnot are in there. It's the same with most bands that switch from metal to something wierd, and a lot of metal bands side-projects. :Of the Wand and the Moon:, for example, are actually more widely known amongst metalheads than they are amongst neo-folk fans, and the same is far more true of groups like Deathstars and Alien Vampires.

My favourite Bob Dylan song, and Zappa's favourite song too.

The hammond organ is just brilliant in this track.

I am listening to the Let It Be...Naked album.

Frankly, it's a massive improvement on the original. 'Dig A Pony' is masterful. It's still one of their weakest albums though. They should've released Abbey Road last.

I still prefer the string-drenched 'Long And Winding Road.'

I'm listening to "Wide Open Spaces" by the freakin' Dixie Chicks, after downloading not one, not two, but three of their songs last night. I think I'm getting soft in my old age (21), because I used to be all, "Ew, country". Now I find that I'm liking good songs regardless of genre, which is refreshing.

E Nomine - Lucifer

I'm wondering, if there's anyone with a strong grasp of German here, is there a subtle difference in meaning between the words 'Finsternis' and 'Dunkelheit', or do they just both mean the same thing?

I like what I've heard so far, they have moved on from trying to be Radiohead to a more dance oriented thing.

I think it's mostly Matt Bellamy's voice (although some parts in Absolution really remind me of Radiohead). Anyway, listenening to more Radiohead (in my oipinion, others surely disagree) is never a bad idea.

Muse - Exo-Politics

Very nice. Blackholes and Revelations is now probably my favourite Muse album.

Clinic-The Return of Evil Bill

I envision a spaghetti western with a cast of escaped mental patients. My favorite Clinic album & song.

I agree that Matt Bellamy's voice is similar to Thom's, though imo they sounded most like Radiohead on the first couple tracks of Showbiz (especially during the high notes on Muscle Museum).

Basically yeah, same thing. Basically saying "Es ist dunkel draußen" and "Es ist finster draußen" is the same thing. At least it is to the best of my knowledge.

Anywho, I am listening to:

ADD - Zoostation

Which is actually a cover of the U2 song. I am personally not a big fan of U2 at all, but I love ADD's U2 Cover CD.

i'm listening to a playlist of a bunch of random Hanoi Rocks songs. japanese neo-classic rock is pretty sick. ok i just spit that term out of my ass so if anyone knows a better classification for Hanoi Rocks, let me know. i've heard them called punk, rock & roll, soft rock, southern rock and all kinds of other stuff but i think neo-classic is a pretty fitting term.

In this day and age, just download. It's possible to get Burzum merchandise without supporting Neo-Nazis, but my understanding is that most of the distribution of Burzum is now owned by Resistance Records. I'm not quite sure about Misanthropy though. Make sure you don't get anything via Cympophane or Unholy Records though.

Actually, just download.

oh yes, there is a difference. first, finsternis is quite a bit more intense than dunkelheit, as in "not only dark, but really dark" and finsternis is much more sinister a word than dunkelheit, which tends to be a more neutral and objective description of one's environment.
i hope i could help.

anyway, i'm listening to about one hour of sven väth's set at this years time warp.

The new Muse CD is indeed very sexy. Can't wait to hear a properly mastered version.

Elegant Machinery - Words of Wisdom

I love bands who're perpetually stuck in the 80s. And also bands who make gay synthpop. So this is a pretty good record in my books.

YES YES YES,
I am on edge waiting for Tweedles.

I've been really pysched for RoC as well, but I'm torchered by the fact that the special release with all the fancy bells and whisles is using that goofy "burn it yourself" method, because my audio engineering professor tells me burned albums only last year or two at most.. But I suppose I can just keep it on my hard drive and just keep on reburning it with new CDs.
But yes, when I finally get piad, that sucker is mine (as well as the Cube E boxset)

IMO, this is the EELS song that, if you love it, you are truly an EELS fan. I say this because nearly every person ever who casually listens to them has never heard this song, while it happens to be one of the best EELS songs ever at all.

PS Kai, if they come near you on this tour (No Strings Attached, heh), see them. It is epicly loud sonic ear rape. And they do a bomb ass cover of Jesus Gonna Be Here.

I really hate that song but a friend of mine can immitate her voice in it perfectly. That annoying deep nasally whine. Its really creepy.

Eels - Somebody Loves You

Totally on my list of awesomely happy songs. definitely.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Ashlee Simpson - L.O.V.E.

Fuck you Ashlee Simpson for consistently churning out songs tham make me feel ashamed to like.

I love Ashlee. One of the few pop tarts I'd not have to lie about liking her music to nail, unlike - for example - that bird from Evanescence.
