TVotR with Grizzly Bear
« on: 07 Oct 2006, 01:18 »

Has anyone seen these bands live? I'm seeing them tomorrow and wondering what to expect. I have a friend in Berlin who said Grizzly Bear is wonderful... but I've only heard a few tracks by both bands.

I recall someone in a previous thread gushing over TV on the Radio's live show. I know nothing about either.

Here's the link: http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,11760.msg360359.html#msg360359

Oh, thank you! I did do a search before creating the thread, but I don't know how I missed that one.  :-)

grizzly bear seem pretty cool. picked up their album at random since it was in the cheap bin and i liked the name. they're signed to warp records though? does my head in a little.

Grizzly Bear's second album "Yellow House" is just fantastic.
TVoTR is amazing live.
I wish I was going to that show but alas I'm broke.
Have fun.

I'm more excited for Grizzly Bear than TVOTR considering I've seen TVOTR and they were just "pretty good".

I saw TVotR opening for NIN.

I was sitting about center in the first part of the stadium seating.

It really was not a good performance. I like them, and I have two of their CDs. Yet, first of all, the lighting was terrible, to the point where none of my friends believed me about some of the band members race. Secondly, all we could hear was the wall of sound.

So, we couldn't see them, and we could hear them, but nothing distinct.

I would just blame it on the venue, but NIN sounded and looked great.

So, yeah, I was dissapointed. People who had never heard of TVotR at the show went as far to say that they were terrible, but even if my only thoughts on them were from the performance, I wouldn't even go that far.

I can't really see them opening for NIN... that's just one wierd combo. Anyway, the show was tonight. Grizzly Bear was ADORABLE and I think the drummer made an allusion to the movie Fargo with his hat. Some chick passed out right before Knife, and I kind of felt bad because that song ruled.

TV on the Radio was a lot more laid back than I imagined. I expected more up-tempo rocking songs-keep in mind I'd only heard a few songs, including the new single, which IS super rockin'. Unfortunately the show lost a lot of appeal, as I had a "shouter" beside me. "PLAY AMBULENCE!! HEEEEEEEY! AMMMBUUUULLLLEEEENNNNCEEEEE!! hee hee I'm drunk!" The only way he could have been more annoying was if he'd shouted Freebird instead.

DFA1979 opened for NIN too.

Also, the best solution for those guys are headlocks followed by noogies and capped off with punchings.

I'd love to see the bands mentioned in this thread, and I apologize for my earlier post I was in fact outragously drunk.

Nope, they didn't play it! The one who looks like  kept giving dirty looks to our general direction, which I hoped would deter him. I've been to shows where shouting out songs was approved-like when I saw Lucero last week they basically played all requests (within reason) but TVotR clearly had a setlist they wanted to stick to. Oh well though, I liked the show overall, the experience just could have been better.

It seems like you were in a smaller venue, which definitely would have made a better show for everyone but NIN. They didn't play ambulance at our show either, which was dissapointing, yet, I doubt there was anyone yelling out "Ambulance!" during the show.

Yeah, there were only around 200-250 people there, which is pretty good for Fargo. The Venue (that's the name of the venue) is about the same size as First Avenue in Minneapolis... actually it's a lot like First Ave with the same color scheme and a 21+ mezzanine. It can hold 2000 people at maximum occupancy, but it's got curtains and stuff for smaller shows too. I think there were a lot of out-of-towners... Winnipegians were yelling at them to come there; I think there was a group from Omaha there too, which was weird.

I have a few videos of the show, but they're all HORRIBLE. They make my ears bleed. Here are pictures.

That's Grizzly Bear! One is playing a clarinet, which is what I [used to] play.

That is most of TV on the Radio, and that's as close as I got.
