You're quirky, but not too quirky.
I value quirkiness and cherish my own but don't go out of my way to be more quirky.
Its probably early in the morning where you are, since 2 of those 5 songs are my wake-up songs.
Em, that's my top 5 tracks overall, not 5 tracks I descided to play just now.
You read alot of books and are usually depressed, which is why for something to be happy it needs to be ULTRA ULTRA ULTRA happy.
I do read a lot of books, and I have had a period of depression, but it was before I signed up for last.fm. Now as for something needing to be ULTRA happy, I just recently discovered that there are people who make music that is genuinely and intentionally happy, and I found it really charming and out-there.
You're vaguly bothered by Sufjan's christianity, but not by his unrepentant pussyness.
Yep. Well actually, while I would normally be a bit botehred by it, I like to view it as a funky quirky thing.
Railing against sex is irrelevant, 'cause you probaly don't get too much of it.
At the time it made it to 2nd place in my list, indeed, not that much. But that was somewhat unusual and I also don't take sex that seriously, which is part of the reason I like the song. Also, I don't like most of NMH's songs or Jeff Mangum.

Top 5 Artists

1. Sleater-Kinney    17687
2. Ani DiFranco       2498
3. Excuse 17          2365
4. Rilo Kiley            2072
5. Evanescence      1350

I was perusing then this list came up. My first thought "Wow I could use a grilled cheese" then  I realized the internet is neither run from my thoughts yet and melted cheese will hurt my harddrive. After that "JESUSFUCK thats a lot of Sleater Kinney" then I was like "Ani DiFranco so homeslice was either A. Bald at one point or B. Doesn't wear deoderant. Depending on Gender. Also if male is scared of spiders and has metal-heads protect him while he dances on a stool.

I'll just start with the most recent song on my playlist and then add each new song that comes up.

1.  Black Label Society - Fire It Up  (My collection of all the cool songs from Guitar Hero is almost complete.)

2.  Creedance Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop The Rain?  (<3 Creedance)

3.  The White Stripes - You've Got Her In Your Pocket  (I just bought the album Elephant yesterday on the advice of a friend and I'm loving it.)

4.  Pantera - The Art of Shredding  (Ahahaha, going from one of the most laid back, chill songs on my entire playlist to Pantera cracks me up on a rather deep level)

5.  Red Hot Chili Peppers - She's Only 18  (I thought I took this song of my playlist.  It's one of the only songs off Stadium Arcadium I don't care for.)

6.  Queens of the Stone Age - Medication  (\m/)

7.  Pearl Jam - Severed Hand  (I don't think that Pearl Jam's most recent album got enough credit.  There's a number of really good songs on it like this one.)

8.  Les Claypool & The Holy Mackerel - The Awakening  (If only the guy would make more songs that were more along the awesome funky lines like this one that the utterly bizarre.)

9.  The Doors - The Unknown Soldier  (It's The Doors, what else can I say?)

10.  Soundgarden - Loud Love  (Hearing the original version and juxtaposing it against Audioslave performing it makes me realize just how badly Chris Cornell's voice has deteriorated over the years.)

You have a beard. Not just a beard though this beard would make a bald eagle in front of a flag weep. A beard legendary amongst truckers. You also sweat whiskey and live on tacos or fried cheese (YUM) . If you don't chew tobacco you smoke it. ALso I want to hang out with you and have a tire fire because I guarauntee you know how to party.

I'll post the top ten on my iTunes I actually listen to.

1. Zak and Sara - Ben Fold's Five
2. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles
3. River Below - Billy Talent
4. Dancing in the Moonlight - Sherman Kelly?
5. Don't Go Breakin' My Heart - ??

Actually, stopping at five, because everything else on there is crap.
You're a woman who downloads songs.

Number 5 is probably Elton John & Kiki Dee, if it's a famous duet from the early 80s.  "Don't go breaking my heart" "I couldn't if I tried" etc.

10 random tracks:

Porter Ricks - Port of Call
Bill Withers - Kissing My Love
M-Boogie - A Different Design (feat. Yeshua Dapoed)
A Tribe Called Quest - I Like It Like That
Selway - Flying Far
Jaylib - No Games
Franck Roger & DJ Roy - Mirage (Dub Mix)
So - h
Mapstation - 11
Minotaur Shock - Local Violin Shop

2 songs, 3 raps, 5 instrumentals.  Seems fairly representative, likewise that 3 out of 10 are by Germans.

My iPod listening isn't on audioscrobbler, but here's my songs:
1   Regina Spektor – Somedays        203
2   Damien Rice – Sweet Avenue        46
3   Broken Social Scene – Our Faces Split the Coast in Half        44
4   Regina Spektor – Us        40
5   Architecture in Helsinki – Souvenirs        39
5   Regina Spektor – On the Radio        39
5   Stars – Elevator Love Letter        39
Basically this confirms that I am in love with ladies with pretty voices. As well as Broken Social Scene and that Damien Rice song.

Artists:
1   Broken Social Scene          700
2   Regina Spektor       529
3   Stars          433
4   Metric       406
5   Architecture in Helsinki       210

If it had iPod stats, there'd be a lot more Ratatat and The Go! Team. It does confirm what a little BSS whore I am, though.

My sweeping generalization is that you are a Canadian with eunichizingly tight jeans. Your dirty pleasure is LL Cool J.

My schizophrenic listening patterns don't really lend themselves to generalization, but here's my top five:

1. Silver Jews - K-Hole
2. Captain Beefheart - I Wanna Find A Woman That'll Hold My Big Toe Till I Have To Go (Drum Solo)
3. Deltron 3030 - Meet Cleofis Randolph the Patriarch
4. The Fiery Furnaces - I'm Gonna Run
5. Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle - Was kostet die Welt

PS: does making sweeping generalizations make anyone else feel like a huge dickhead?

  • Fry... You're my friend...

my last.fm list

to contribute to my own post:

you probably can't stand a song unless it
A: Has some pretenious swedish dude moaning
B: is under 15 minutes long

You probably think a band sucks unless they have a full sentence name (I know you listen to GSYBE and Do Make Say Think)
You more than likely won't consider a guitarist good unless they play with a screwdrive/small rodent

Umm, what? Where the hell do you get off making sweeping generalizations about my list of music from my last.fm page? Seriously, do you know something I don't?

What if I told you that I only listen to music on my computer (the only thing I have last.fm plugged into) when I fall asleep? What if I enjoy falling asleep to said above music? What if I'd rather listen to fifteen-minute instrumental songs when falling asleep because they help calm me down, wind down, relax and fall asleep?

I don't listen to Mogwai, Sigur Ros, GYBE, Do Make Say Think, et. al. at work, where I listen to the majority of my music - I'd fall asleep if I did. And I don't work at home, nor do I have a soundcard on my computer at work, so I don't have last.fm available at work. Nor do I have an iPod, nor do I use iTunes - I have a Zen:M Vision, and I've not bothered to install automatic updates when I synch my Zen with my computer every night.

I enjoy a wide variety of music. I just don't listen to it all on my computer when I'm falling asleep, because I can't fall asleep to it. Would you?

Huh. I honestly can't tell if mberan42 is being sarcastic or serious. The internet makes it hard to tell!

I bet Skibas_clavicle likes to dance to her muzak.

Johnny C is a ROCKER but he doesn’t like to rock out-he’d prefer to funk shit up. Also, he is probably fun. He wears tight pants in the hardcore crowd style, with dirty black converse all-stars (that he bought in ’79) but has pink and purple braids in his hair along with a feather boa. He doesn’t believe in shirts.

I don't have that FM doodad, but here are my 10 most listened to iTunes tracks

1. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - P!atD
2. Superman (MHC Remix) - Stereophonics
3. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian
4. Build God Then We'll Talk - P!atD
5. All This Love (Tonight Only's Fuck Tomorrow Remix) - The Similou
6. Doctor Pressure (Clean Club Edit) - Mylo feat. Miama Sound Machine
7. Farther - Anthony Rother
8. This Room - Eskimo Joe
9. Cloudy This Morning - George Winston
10. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

I haven't heard of a bunch of those, but you're a dude with long black bangs hanging in your eyes most of the time. At least you don't take yourself too seriously. You're probably the inspiration of the Dancin' Emo from StuffSucks whose actual name I either forgot or never knew.

My top ten songs based on Play Count on my iPod are:

1) Glosoli - Sigur Ros
2) Some Red Handed Sleight Of Hand - Cursive
3) Deformative - Black Eyes
4) Oh, You Are The Roots That Sleep Beneath My Feet And Hold The Earth In Place - Bright Eyes
5) The Game Needed Me - Minus The Bear
6) Broke And Still Breaking - Morning For The Masses
7) Thus From My Lips, By Yours, My Sin Is Purged - As Cities Burn
8 ) The Ghost - mewithoutYou
9) Be Good or Be Gone - Fionn Regan (an Irish folk artist)
10) Soft Pyramids - Q And Not U

That Bright Eyes song sure does have an unnecessarily long title. Woo!

Nuppers! I hate emos and everything they stand for!! I'm a dude with short brown hair that's either spiked up (in my "bowser" style) or pushed back. Oh...And as for songs you may not have heard of...I'll give you some genres.

1. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - P!atD (It's Huge In Australia at the moment, and my dormies won't let me stop playing it...)
2. Superman (MHC Remix) - Stereophonics (House/Electronica)
3. Funny Little Frog - Belle & Sebastian (Alternative...Or Indie...I dunno)
4. Build God Then We'll Talk - P!atD (I actually really love this song!)
5. All This Love (Tonight Only's Fuck Tomorrow Remix) - The Similou (House/Electronica)
6. Doctor Pressure (Clean Club Edit) - Mylo feat. Miama Sound Machine (House/Electronica)
7. Farther - Anthony Rother (House/Electronica)
8. This Room - Eskimo Joe (I think Eskimo Joe are an Australian Band...So you may not have heard of them...But they are alternative)
9. Cloudy This Morning - George Winston (Piano Instrumental)

I'm amazed there was a lack of chill music on there. My main two genres that are up in my playlist are 'cafe' and 'house/electronica'...
10. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley

^Sweeping generalisation = you believe there is no such thing as too many guitar solos and feel that not enough people wear leather pants these days.

2. Beirut - Postcards From Italy
3. Band of Horses - The Funeral
4. Sleater-Kinney - Wilderness
5. Swan Lake - All Fires
6. Jay-Z - Show Me What You Got
7. Sunset Rubdown - Stadiums and Shrines II
8. Califone - The Orchids
9. Yo La Tengo - The Story of Yo La Tengo

I Thought I Knew It All - Megadeth
Thetawaves - System of a Down
Tears - Breed 77
Minor Thing - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Can you say "rebel without a cause"?

(Apparently, my playlist is too generic to generalize...but not to be disturbingly specific about.)

You probably look pretty normal but what your friends don't know is that you sneak out into the forest at night and commune with nature and you also play a weird instrument and listen to awesome music I love neutral milk hotel more than I love ravioli...thats right..ravioli.

You like to rawk out maybe?  Commerical "hard" rock radio stations are fine with you?
You wear dirty jeans and still buy cd's in mainstream stores?

At least you don't copy your playlists directly from Pitchfork/other influential indie sources like most here appear to do...

Here's mine. Generalize me.

1 -D'Oyly Carte Opera Company ? With Cat-Like Tread 25
2 -Virgin Black ? Lamenting Kiss   23
2 -Arcturus ? Hibernation Sickness Complete    23
4 -Sherrill Milnes ? La Boh?me: Act IV, Vecchia zimarra, senti    21
5 -Virgin Black ? Of Your Beauty    19
5 -Virgin Black ? Weep for Me    19
7 -Neil Young ? Till the Morning Comes    18
8 -Neil Young ? Oh, Lonesome Me    17
8 -Neil Young ? Southern Man    17
8 -Virgin Black ? Our Wings Are Burning    17
11-Samuel Ramey ? Mefistofele: "Ecco Il Mondo"    16

And for good measure, artists too.

1     Virgin Black      256
2    D'Oyly Carte Opera Company    215
3    Academy of St. Martin in the Fields    187
4    Samuel Ramey    181
5    Arcturus    164
6    Enslaved    153
7    Neil Young    124
8    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart    121
9    Giacomo Puccini    114
10    Giuseppe Verdi    112

And finally, most recently listened songs:

Okkervil River ? The President is dead
The Beach Boys ? God Only Knows
Wintersun ? Beyond the Dark Sun
D'Oyly Carte Opera Company ? Sighing Softly to the River

You have an extensive knowledge of music theory, own a long black coat and probably a large amount of other black clothing (tasteful clothing though, we're talking poet not cheesy metaller) and read German philosophy while drinking red wine.

I don't own an mp3 player or have my own computer, so tracks from a mixtape will have to do:
Spy Versus Spy - Rich Girl's Mistletoe
The Green Acre - The Diffusion of Water
Army of Flying Robots - Pedestal
Shellac - Dog And Pony Show
Swing Kids - Warsaw
Why? - Rubber Traits
Walls of Jericho - Misanthropy
Hot Snakes - LAX
Amber Inn - Leave With Dignity
Driven Down - ...And Now I'm Gone

Woo!

You have curly hair, a perpetually 'interested' expression on your face and like the colour green (forest, not mint) and you generally rule.

How'd I do?

Last 10 songs played on my iPod:

Cathedral - Satanikus Robottikus
Exodus - I Am Abomination
Strapping Young Lad - Wrong Side
Arch Enemy - The First Deadly Sin
Shadow Gallery - The Andromeda Strain
Isis - The Beginning and the End
Planet X - Ataraxia
Ayreon - Day Fourteen: Pride
Kamelot - Nothing Ever Dies
Testament - Disciples of the Watch

LOL Prog :-)

You have long wavy hair and are partial to wearing frilly open silk shirts and leather pants. You spend a vast amount of time in front of a wind machine with one foot on a foldback speaker. You appreciate Early 70's Genesis albums in a completely non-ironic manner.

Yeah... I like Against Me! a bit. To be fair, I listened to alot of other stuff from august to now that didn't get on the site, seein' as how I didn't have internet. So maybe the Get Up Kids or Elliott Smith would be first...

You got into heavy music through mainstream mallcore and are just starting to see the light of trOO and kvlt metal. You used to
wear baggy pants and Slipknot tshirts, but you've transitioned to tight jeans and shirts with undecipherable band names on them.  How's that for sweeping generalizations?
