Run D.M.C. rock, which is why I was floored that a girl who enjoys Bloc Party and Mclusky could not know who they were.

I've never heard of this band, and I like much better bands than that.

Also, their name sounds utterly shit. They sound like a failed nu-metal band or Vanilla Ices backing group or something.

Walk This Way? It's Tricky? King of Rock? RUn's House? Raising Hell? Seminal 80's rap?

Sex Pistols (important but still shit)
Wilco (it took Billy Bragg to make their music engaging)
Iron and Wine (actually pretty much every band on the Garden State soundtrack)
Bruce Springsteen (show tunes with cheesy sub-Dylan poetics)
Jeff Buckley (lounge music warblings)
Prince (vocals grate me)

Walk This Way?

Oh god, that shit.

I was seemingly right in thinking instantly of some sort of hideous rap/rock combination!

Well the most 'successful' tracks are rarely the best.  'Bring your daughter to the slaughter', anyone? Still, the rest of Run is absolute gold.

I don't think you can apply Iron Maiden there seeing as 95% of their songs are completely interchangeable.

Wonderwall, in defiance of all human logic, being made worse.

I actually think that Wonderwall is a rather good song that they completely botched on execution. The Ryan Adams and Cat Power versions are far superior.

Oh man the Ryan Adams version is one of my mix CD fallbacks. Can't think of a song that'll fit? "WONDERWALL" BY RYAN ADAMS!

You are only emphasising that I am well-versed in artists who produce material that's interchangeable. Besides which I can assure you I am a 'fan' of Avril more due to my penis than my ears.

Besides which, Avril has made two (or three, I dunno if the next one's out) albums that are exactly alike. How many have Maiden done, fifteen?

Well that isn't even taking into account that what you said was entirely incorrect. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is absolutely nothing like Brave New World, and A Matter of Life and Death has nothing to do with Killers.

So basically you're wrong on both issues.

I had some vague recollection of seeing the name in conjunction with Aerosmith when Walk This Way was mentioned.

Apart from that, nope. And judging by that pile of crap, I never want to.

Maybe at some point I should post a list of the bands that people here might consider great, but I think plain fucking suck, or are just mediocre or not that notable. Hmn, okay, actually, I will do that. Off the top of my head:

Ellen Allien, The Arcade Fire, Architecture in Helsinki, Animal Collective, Belle and Sebastien, The Books, Broken Social Scene, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dangermouse, De La Soul, The Decemberists, Deerhoof, Dr. Doom, The Field Mice, The Fiery Furnaces, Fugazi, Gnarls Barkley, Guided By Voices, Iron and Wine, Jawbox, Jawbreaker, Jedi Mind Tricks, LCD Soundsystem, McLusky, Minor Threat, Modest Mouse, Mouse on Mars, Nirvana, Outkast, Pixies, The Postal Service, Q and not U, R Ratatat, Rites of Spring, RJD2, Screeching Weasel, Silkworm, Silver Jews, Elliot Smith, Sonic Youth, Spiritualised, Tortoise, Wilco and anything else you love.

I actually think that song could do well in the 'cons' section of people's debates of collaborations in the other thread. It really doesn't do either band justice.

I'm not impressed with Deerhoof.  I only listen to them occasionally because I think they're funny.  But I'm laughing at them, not with them.

@Khar-  You really like to stir up a ruckus, don't you?  Fugazi not great?  The Pixies not great?  Surely even you can't ignore what those bands have contributed to music.

You're really obsessed with bands being unoriginal and unremarkable, aren't you?? That seems to be the same criticism you gave for Sufjan Stevens. Why can't you just admit that you don't like 98% of indie rock and therefore you ARE generalizing. Honestly, I can't imagine someone liking indie rock and not liking a good half of the bands you posted.

Eh? There must be a reason I don't like it, eh?

And that's because its limp-wristed boring shit that has nothing to say about anything and hasn't made any fucking musical progress since 1985. Why would you like it? It's got nothing whatsoever to recommend it, unless you yourself are a boring, timid, imagination-void little cretin who enjoys such microscopic levels of stimulation.

Well, see, what you've asked me to do is easy for you to stomp on.  I can say a band has been influenced by Fugazi and is (or was, in this case) an excellent band: At the Drive-In.  You can tell me that you think this band meets the criteria of being "boring and artless."  It's a very subjective process.

BTW, Propagandhi is influenced by Fugazi.

Also, I seem to recall you getting your panties in a fancy bunch when I dismissed black metal as "boring and unoriginal."  I think that because it all sounds the fucking same to me.  But that's just me.  I don't like black metal.

Propaghandi are okay. They're quite good in the context of being an American punk band from the 90's that doesn't suck a big dripping whale cock full of pure unadulterated lose.

I know It's already been said but honestly.....eeeeeuuuaaagh....

With a different vocalist maybe they could be okay, but I really wouldn't know since I've never made it through an entire song of theirs.

About all of this indie rock, which I've begun hearing some of since I started reading QC and the forums-

I like most of the instrumentation, but the vocals are what's hard for me to take. I don't expect them to be virtuosos or even REALLY be able to sing well (like Geddy Lee for example, jerks), but some of them just have no tone and no real control over their voice, and the vocals do NOT mesh well with the music. This isn't true in all cases, I've heard Built to Spill and The Decemberists lately, and they seem good, but as I continue to explore the rest, I can't find a lot of material that really attracts me.

How, so because I listen to music you classify as being a certain way, I must be that same way?? How intelligent of you.

Let me try!!

Why would you want to listen to metal?? It's the most unoriginal, uninspiring music ever created. EVER. It all sounds the same, and there has not been a single metal album worth owning or discussing in the history of music ever. EVER. Why would you like it?? It's got nothing whatsoever to recommend it, unless you yourself are boring, convinced of a self importance that 90% of the world doesn't give any attention or credence to, trying too hard to be complex, trying too hard to "rock", trying too hard in general, bereft of any sense of fun, or too self consciously complex, fun, metal, etc.

No, sorry, that was just incoherent. I made more sense and I was massively drunk.
