Am I the only person on the planet who has never, ever thought the Beastie Boys were any good?

This did it for me.

This thread should have been about Springsteen.

I agree with you fully  :-).

Springsteen quite literally has one up on Maiden because he's only ever made two albums over and over.

I had a bumlove dream about him circa 1985 once. That was an odd one.

Which two?  Because you know, I have to say, I'm struggling to find many similarities between Greetings From Asbury Park New Jersey, The Wild The Innocent & The E-Street Shuffle, Born To Run, Nebraska, and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.  I could see some of the other albums falling into similar categories with those, but all those albums are rather wildly different.

I'm leaving it open to interpretation. Plus you wedged Venom in there at the last minute because the studio made you.

Venom's last five or six albums were all pretty sucky though. They haven't put out anything really good since Prime Evil.

Springsteen is pretty lame. He rocks like styrofoam.

In all seriousness, I am no fan of Springsteen's. He's a little American patriotic for my liking - not 'Born In The USA' that is - and many of his songs...'Born To Run' to me, reads like...well, a load of wank, frankly. Not the kind of lyrics that I'm interested at all.

When he does stripped-back, Americana-tinged character sketches, I can relate; like 'Philidelphia' is a good tune, and I own 'The Ghost Of Tom Joad,' which is a good album but I feel like it's the only one I'll ever need.

Metallica. I mean their early stuff was kinda weak, but they've made it up for it with their recent albums.

Of course I'm not being sarcastic. I love it when a band loses all of its musical skill and sells out to corporations.

I haven't heard anything after At War With Satan, but Kudos on picking up the reference and running with it

I never liked Springsteen either until very recently, although I definitely tried. I had all but given up on his stuff, but then I saw The Brunettes (you guys know the Brunettes, right?) do a cover of 'Born To Run' to close their set and I was like, "Ohhhhhhhhhhh".

Sells out? GAHHHHHHH.

Fuck you, fuck selling out.

They sold out because:

 - They got paid to make the music they wanted to make.

Yup. Fucking sellouts. How dare they betray us by doing what they wanted to do, for huge sums of money!

Metallica is getting payed to pretend they are making the music they want to make. I doubt they even know what they want to make at all anymore. not that i blame them for making money, I just doubt it has anything to do with wanting to make music. Make all the money you want, I don't care. But don't sacrifice your integrity to do so. On the other hand, I do agree that "selling out" is a phrase that should be removed from our speech, because it is really really overused and misused. Also, I hate the use of "corporation" as a word synonymous with evil. Not that it isn't true most of the time, It's just a cop-out and sounds really paranoid. For the record both Sonic Youth and the Flaming Lips are on the same kinds of massive, corporate record labels without coming even close to "selling out", as it were.

Black Sabbath aren't really around any more.
Not to mention they've had a fair amount of sucky suck in their discography
Repent, sinner!  Unless you're talking post-Ozzy stuff.  Then go right ahead.

This did it for me.
Now THAT is the best song/video combination I have pretty much ever seen outside of George Harrison.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

But isn't selling out supposed to be accepting money for success in a field of music you don't like?

Of course, I can see how this applies to the Black Album, but that was still heavier than most of what was on the radio. It's not like it was fucking pop, or something. Re/Load weren't pop. St. Anger sure as hell wasn't pop, it barely even had a melody on the whole album. Honestly, I would've considered Metallica sellouts if they had simply continued to make the type of music they made on the first four albums, because that would be a lack of progression and simply pandering to their fanbase.
