Yeah, but Craigslist is an online classifieds, so you can find people in your area.  Which is great, because you can go test the stuff before you buy it.

Yeah, if you have a tight budget, don't be afraid of looking through the paper.

You can find some great, used instruments for good prices. So what if it's a tad scuffed? Put on some new strings and it sounds fine!

I've been trolling the classifieds of my local paper for guitars for two years.

There's been ONE MIM Strat for sale. In two years. That's it. Nothing else.

So last time I went to a band practice the guitarist (who is an oldhead collector who really just wants to play his Stones covers for the rest of his life) pulled out one of these:

I only flipped out a little bit, but I'd never seen one before and didn't know what it was (for those in the same situation, it's a G&L Comanche, one of the guitars Leo Fender made after getting bought out of Fender ... and he personally claims that G&L was where he did his best work).

I'm pretty sure that if I were a guitar player and not a bass player I'd actually hate the man.

Yeah, G&L (and to that extent, their overseas "Tribute" line) is good stuff. If I end up with a new guitar this year, I'm considering shelling out the extra $50 or so to get a Tribute ASAT Classic instead of an MIM Tele.

Same deal in Sitka, Alaska. Fortunately, I have free The Inter-nets at the library and a credit card.

Right now I feel very lucky to be in Melbourne... established music scene = lots of used instruments etc.

I went to 3 guitar shops that had a good few used basses each, and they were all within about 10km of the city. And then there's this place:
www.musicswopshop.com.au

That said, the printed classifieds are still fairly bare.

Need mo' action roun here.

It's funny, people around this forum diss strats, but this poster here, is gonna buy yet another U.S.A. made Strat. 40th Anniversary Edition this time.

I'm so glad they're not hype right, now, they're cheap in the used sections, unlike their "cooler" brother.

Also, I've heard good stuff about those BlackHearts. They're supposed to be quite decent, and for that price, I'd see myself grabbing one, should they become available locally.

Fender strats are potentially the best guitars ever made, but they are a bit over played. I think people should experiment with their guitars. I have a Les Paul and am getting a Fender Tele. Then there's my Takamine acoustic, JUMBO sized body, btw. But all in all, great guitar, besides the fact that it's about the most obvious choice of guitar for most beginners.

I'm saving up for a parker fly.

Not really.  Dreadnaughts are much more popular for beginners than Jumbos, so don't feel too bad.  :)

Oh, I'm well aware Dreadnaughts are far more popular for the beginner types, I was actually referring to the Fender/Squire Strat. I guess that was poor wording on my part, hehehe...

But I loooove my jumbo body.. It.. It is... It is aerodynamically curvacious, if you catch my drift

Here are my Strats, both U.S.A. Made, top one being a Highway 1, bottom being the 40th Anniversary 1954 Replica Strat.

The red one is stringed with with 10-52 strings (on a strat, hell yeah baby), teal one is right now with 9-42, but I'm gonna get some 10-46 goodness on this baby, sounds too twangy like this.

Really good guitars, the 40th Ann. guitar has a great neck, a lot faster than my fat vintage neck on the Highway 1, and the action is superbly low for a strat. I've seen Ibanez with worse necks than this one.

Oh, and they sound awesome, first one has Custom '69 handwound pickups, which are going to make a switcharoo towards the teal one, and I'll probably make a fat strat out of the Highway 1, get two humbuckers on that, make it like a Fender Lead III

Am I a pussy for playing 09-42's?

With, and it's not the red with gold hardware kind either, it's the more obscure Blue with chrome.    Just wait till I get the pics up though.

EDIT:

Just look how awesome it looks, and yes, that case is actually pink inside, not red.  so much cooler than the red with gold.  It has a smudge in the paint job, but it's not that bad and I think it gives it uniqueness, and it is a pretty freaking unique guitar anyway!

Yeah, she's a guitar freak.  She has a few signed ones, one by Nancy Wilson from Heart and Janis Joplin's sister.  Also, she's way into the ladies, so sorry DynamiteKid.  Anyway, the 3 way on the bird is pretty cool, it goes :
Neck/Mid+bridge/Bridge
And each sound is actually really awesome.  The vibrato bar takes some getting used to, but I don't really use it much anyway.  The sound?  Godly, especially coming out of a Fender Twin.  I still like my Strat (which is currently in the shop getting that push/pull pot installed) but I think I've got a new baby.  The Fender guy inside me just died a little

I think your aunt would fit in really well in the comic...

and that firebird looks sex. and nimble!

Figured I might as well post this here:

My brother playing the guitar he made for himself... I forget all the details of it, except that he uses seymor-duncan pickups, and wired them up with a switch to toggle humbucking on/off (or something along those lines?). Photos were from our band's first gig.
